well, anyone is a knife is not just going to put his hand out like that, he is going to try and cut you, while i like Silat and it does work, the Knife fight is not going to work, maybe if you are in a worse case scerior, even, then you are better of getting a clean shot to the body or face, u will get cut any which way.

@@rockade2408 of course no ones going to leave their hand out there. All techniques, from most martial arts, are taught in an exaggerated or slowed fashion to get the mechanics down. Speed and escalation of force come with the experience of both practitioners. Anytime a weapon is involved in an altercation it is by definition the worst-case scenario. You hope for the best but prepare for the worst.

Silat is one of the most elite fighting style which flows like a water...Very beautiful to watch each & every flow of movements step by step....Very stylish JKD & Krav Maga alike which is gonna look good in movies if choreography is done right...👊💪🤙

Just to clarify for those who don't understand, those sequence of movements aren't meant to be executed fully from start to end. Every hit was to bring the opponent down. If the first didn't, then proceed to another. Parries and blocks aren't just to block the attack, it was used to "feel" the opponent distance and position. It is also used to set up for counter. And for those "boxing" comments, given you're about the same weight and strength, it's so much easier to counter or get into position to counter because of the shorter range. Usually, a boxer would be hard to fight mostly not because of his techniques, but because he's much beefier or had train his punch to be hard, heavy or fast. Westeners probably don't understand this, and it's probably not that obvious, but as western martial arts are "the art of fighting", most eastern martial arts are "the art of fighting back".

On Point! Any mid level silat will go down against good trained boxers and mma cause these guys are used to take a punch. But those aren't the guys which pick out fights with strangers on the street. Against those beer tough guy bro dudes who can only swing their arms around and can maybe throw a straight, silat bela-diri is just devestating!

Much respect , many many years ago, I was fortunate to have a friend who taught me some JKD priniples. I did not realize until years later how he combined many different styles into what he taught me. For me at the time, he moved me towards Eskrima, Wing Chun..and..who knows? But I see now that some of what he imparted to me had principles of Silat. I guess when Cass Magda taught him, he absorbed what was useful in Silat and added it to his own 'way". Thank you kind soul, for your videos and wisdom, especially the gentle ways, the ways of life, rather than death and destruction. Namaste :)

It's likely that the Silat principles you see in JKD was Dan Inosanto's influence on Bruce Lee. Dan's main background is in the Filipino martial arts, which are actually offshoots of Silat. kzread.info/dash/bejne/k5951LqHhc_Kiag.html

The Father Of Modern MMA: Bruce Lee’s Journey To Mastering Silat by Alexie JuagdanOctober 9, 2022Artists Bruce Lee is considered by many to be the father of modern mixed martial arts (MMA). He is renowned for his incredible speed, power and agility, which he used to great effect in his martial arts films. But what many people don’t know is that Bruce Lee actually studied a traditional Indonesian martial art called Silat. Bruce Lee was first introduced to Silat while he was living in Malaysia in the late 1950s. He was immediately impressed by the fluidity and grace of the Silat practitioners, and he began to study the art under the tutelage of the renowned Silat master, Pengiran Temenggung Seri Maharaja Dato’ Jaffar. Bruce Lee’s Silat training helped to develop his own unique style of martial arts, which he called Jeet Kune Do (“The Way of the Intercepting Fist”). This style combines the speed and power of Western boxing with the grace and fluidity of Silat. Bruce Lee’s mastery of Silat was evident in his martial arts films, where he often used Silat techniques to defeat his opponents. In the film “Enter the Dragon”, for example, Bruce Lee can be seen using a Silat-inspired kick to knock out his opponent. Today, Silat is enjoying a resurgence in popularity, thanks in part to the popularity of MMA. Many of the top MMA fighters, such as UFC champion Georges St-Pierre, have studied Silat and have incorporated its techniques into their own fighting styles. asianjournalusa .com/the-father-of-modern-mma-bruce-lees-journey-to-mastering-silat/

To Maul565, Is there a morning routine that you do for mobility, which is the same movements you use in your everyday techniques that you teach while traveling. The way you move from a High stance to medium stance then into a lower movement stance is really impressive, asking for a 50 plus age ole guy, that needs a little bit of help. If you could video yourself going through some easy mobility movements that i could incorporate into a morning workout that could add your silat techniques to it later would help a guy out. Hmm.. It seems that some of the commenters keep commenting how this is unreal when facing a boxer, mma fighter or street fighter. Maybe after this Guru Maul could demonstrate on how to deal with these fighters. Show them how to deal with them in real! Can't wait to see Guru Maul action in 'real situation'!.. 👍💪
