Siku, presentation of all models produced in 1969. Diecast car

The Siku company began producing toys in the 1920s. It was not until the 1950s that it launched the production of car models. Initially, they were made of plastic. In 1969, the last plastic model was made and all models were made of a zinc alloy. In the 1960s, the company developed very dynamically and in the initial stage it packed its models in cardboard boxes, later switching to blister packaging. She was one of the few that tried to make models from a given series in one scale.
Although it made many American car models, it never gained popularity in the United States.

Examining Matchbox and Hot Wheels prices and we found their 1960s prices (like a 57¢ Matchbox casting) would equal a $4 to $5 USD price in today's dollars. Currently Matchbox castings run from 99¢/$1 USD at Walmart or the dolllar stores to $1.49 USD at our local groceteria. Guessing Matchbox/Hot Wheels are doing OK with said range and M-2, Johnny Lighting and Auto World (to mention a few) are certainly doing well in the $5 USD price point.

I think alot of reasons brands went to plastic bases was the ability to add intricate detailing and the ability to mold in different colors. reducing the need to paint bases. Definitely another thing modern diecast brands have over ones from the past is the modern pad printing allowing for intricate badging and decals at a reasonable price.

@@PaulRestorer Very true. I suppose the most obvious example is Matchbox themselves. It all started to go wrong when they copied HotWheels. Also, they made great cars and trucks but their planes and ships were pathetic.

Very nice Paul, I never knew SIKU have old toys, and made cars models as well, here in South Africa I only know it as mainly agricultural models and all of die-cast or what ever, no plastic. We don't have RC Siku models as well up to today as far as I know

Wow. A top model ARAL truck costs 10 DM in 1969. That is not even 5 euros in 2020. And what quality can you buy for 5 euros nowadays? Siku was the best in my opinion.

😁👍🏼 In one way agree with you, Mate. 5€ for a model like this today? No way😁 But on the other hand... My Dad had a wage of 7,50 DM (per hour) back then. So that wasn't cheap. But you're right, SIKU models were (and they still are today) quality-made. So I know what you mean my friend. 😁😁😁👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Je me suis toujours demandé d'ou venait le nom SIKU qui me semblait très étrange quand j'étais gosse , la réponse était pourtant simple : " SIKU originates from abbreviating the name of the founder of the company, Richard Sieper, and the German word for plastic, Kunststoffe (e.g. Sieper Plastics)."
