Pat Weaver spoke to my Radio/TV class in 1972. During the conversation, he casually mentioned that his daughter was an actress and we should be watching for her.

Think of her in the original Alien film and then twenty years later in Galaxy Quest. Terrific actress.

It's *very interesting* to hear Sigourney speak about her father with such passion. I had no idea that he was a television pioneer or visionary. And of course, we love Ms. Weaver for all of her amazing films primarily in science fiction.

Love her. Especially in the Alien movies & Working Girl. She should’ve won the Oscar for that role.

When I was a kid growing up in 1950's America, I was utterly fascinated by J. Fred Muggs. He seemed as real a "person" as--well--anyone else on the show. We were easily influenced back then!

I was a kid at the time Alien came out. Our local theater was going in and out of owners and operators. If you had a dollar, you got in. Regardless of the movie or its ratings. Alien has to be one of the first R rated movies I ever saw. When that alien came out of its egg shell, and attacked John Hurt, it scared me like no other movie ever had! We thought that we were big shots for getting into that theater. That was the best!

Once again whoever is writing the titles in between the segments misspelled a name. It's Sid Caesar. Not Cid Caesar.

I completely agree with you Sigourney & your Father too, in regards to ads on TV. Personal product information should remain private!

I'd disagree, but then thats the problem with ALL advertising, I think ALL advertizing is in bad taste, and now that I'm older I sometimes remember commercials from when I was a kid. NOW I realize "hey, those bastards only pay for me to SEE the commercial, they should be paying ME if its taking up synaptic real estate space". And now its for products that I can't even BUY any more. So the subscription based way is definitely better. And now that I'm older you talk a lot ot people who have NO embarassment about ANY bodily information. I dont' think there is any commercial now that could possibly embarass me even during a meal. Eating chocolate pudding and seeing a stool softener ad would just make me laugh.

I'd have to disagree that television was the peoples medium. The INTERNET is now the peoples medium, although a lot of forces are trying to do the same as with television, cough, youtube. But literally anybody can 'almost' start a show on youtube, and certainly anybody can start one somewhere on the internet. Here in Canada public airwaves are OWNED by the govenrment, which means by corporations. So even if I set up rabbit ears and tried to UHF something the CRTC would shut it down. At least the US had cable access.
