To be fair, while alliances the galleon did also act sus too and kept cannons on them at all times. I would’ve also been watching them like a hawk. I’m more shocked the galleon didn’t also have at least 1 person on their vessel at all times. They got cocky because of technically being the bigger crew

you are right! notice that Jackie got back on the ship after they parked in that way. As we were expecting an attack at any moment, they wanted their cannons always towards us.

@@PhuzzyBond Cannons isn't really what you should be too worried about with betrayals, rarely does a betrayal go that way as you can quickly drop sails and fight, a hidden keg is most likely, so I understand why you stay on the ship, but in too many doing so, ironically, you show signs of betrayal also, and make them not trust you. I think if just 1 of you stayed on the ship and the rest fought they will have trusted you more. Also, regarding watching the ship you should expect them to do the same and check the ship, and therefore, put the keg on bottom deck at the back would be better in my opinion, I was worried they would just find it when you left as it was next to their loot, but you played it off very well in the end with the blunderbomb.

Tbh, I’d be as sus as that galleon. Not because I was gonna betray, but I’m as paranoid as a mouse and can’t fully trust strangers especially the moment they climb the ladder without consent. I am friendly though and don’t really backstab people. If I wanna fight, I do it the honest way and go head on. Lying and backstabbing isn’t my taste, it kills the faith in jolly coop

I always position my cannon to attack, no matter if i intend the betray or not. It is just good practice. The Galleon was doing the right thing, and Phuzzy was sus af tbh

The cannons in view was definitely a sus as hell move, but I would be extremely sus of you guys if you had one or two on your ship the whole time, even if I had 10000% no intention of betraying. Could have also been a contingency plan for if y'all took the key and tried to sail away, easy chainshots and so on. This crew definitely sus but can also see why they didn't trust. Great video either way, extremely entertaining all through :D

It's natural for both sides to not trust and the alliance would fall apart really quickly. This whole thing is a truce of convenience than anything else lol

I absolutely love videos like this. Yall read that other crew like a book! Ive gotten betrayed a couple times over this new chest, its time i be more observant and less trusting lmao

The most telltale sign of betrayal is that the other crew never takes their eyes off you. Whether they're afraid of you or planning on sinking you, not having any trust is dangerous.

You did come across as the betrayers in waiting on this one, they also did most of the fort as they mentionned ahah. Still, love the video and the content !

This is what I love about Sea of Thieves: Player Interaction Every adventure is different, and what Sea of Thieves does that not many other games can achieve is create these complex dynamics like Predator vs. Prey and the Prisoner's dilemma. Season 9 is an especially good season because it ramped up player interaction with the new CoF and created these tense situations that make the game great. Whenever I'm not looking for PvP or streaking in HG, I hunt down player interaction where I like to create these tense situations and play a puppet master role. I use the PvP skills I've learned from getting TSD and LSD to be as unpredictable as possible, generally trying to lay low and look harmless but in reality pack quite the punch. It's awesome!

Phuzzy is the most cerebral SOT content creator. Love the little details that you go into and the psychology behind them.

This video saved me and a friend last night, made me paranoid as sin for anything that could be them putting themselves into a firing position and acted on it, getting underway and out of the way just before they started firing

this is my first time watching any of your content and I gotta say, this had to be one of the most entertaining SOT videos I've ever watched. I am definitely going to watch more!

Man i love fortune chest fights, it's so fun ! The seas are more than ever filled with scurvy pirates. I enjoy every video I am watching so far there is action non stop it's great !

Now I'll admit, hindsight is always 20/20 vision but I'm afraid the only real thing that was correct in here was the term 'Paranoia'. You were so paranoid of the other crew that you actually became more suspicious than them. You deemed them untrustworthy from the moment they sunk the other ship. You sent Rocket over at the beginning to get a feel for the crew to which he states they are "chill" and your first reaction was, 'I don't trust that'. They hard anchor at an island but your first thought is that they've positioned themselves for attack (a crew that couldn't even raise the sails or unanchor themselves after parking?). You then state that you already feel this is going to end badly which shows your state of mind. Even though it was smart to move, any ship that is already parked that repositions is a very suspicious move, even if it's out the way (which you confirm because then they move their ship in response and your paranoia increases). You then move the ship again causing more suspicion. Rocket then starts suggesting putting a keg on their boat "just in case", which you do (how is that no suspicious?)! Imagine a country moving rockets across a country border "just in case" and having no repercussion? Then when it all ends and they state a claim more share of the treasure (even though 30 - 60% of the your crew remained on the ship most times whereas 100% of their crew was on the island doing the event), just like that, paranoia justified!. Now again, 20/20 vision but everything points to their crew being new. The anchoring, the dying so many times to the fort, coming to your ship to change their weapons, the lack of revivals, the reaction to flee when negotiations fell flat. I think this is a good guide to show signs of betrayal, but it's not from them.

This is super helpful! I have encountered more than a few of these scenarios in my short tenure as a pirate lol

@@Kfo221 Agreed, stupid, but why have 2 people watch it? Why 2 of 3 people? hell, if you are going to do that, why not all 3? Yeah, let's just have everyone from the brig stay on the brig. Fuck man, are you guy's really this dense? I've already explained this 3 times. It only makes sense for 1 person to be watching the brig, once you have 2 people staying on it, it becomes "suspect."

I just recently got back into the game and I was a bit worried about delving into Emissary quests due to rank 5 reapers being able to see you but in all honesty Reaper players don’t seem to go out of their way to hunt players down. My friend and I literally had rank 5 with gold hoarders and had to go right by a rank 5 reaper at the reapers hideout and yeah they fired at us for a minute, but they didn’t devote time to tracking us down for an extended period of time, which was genuinely nice to see.

A 25 minute Phuzzy video? We are eating well tonight!

These tips helped out a lot with a risky situation me and two friends put ourselves in to. We were having a brig session and managed to "capture" an island with a completed FoF while the sloop duo that completed the event took the vault key and fled after losing the island fight and almost lost their ship at the same time, only to come back shortly after and offer a trade with us, which I attempted to negotiate a deal for. They wanted the Chest of Legend, Ashen Wind Skull, and Chest of Fortune (the "big three treasures" from the fort), and we would get everything else from the vault. When they went to the vault to move out their two specific treasures from the vault since they already had the skull on their sloop, the two came back to the vault and offered to help us move the treasure to the beach before one of them said that the deal changed, and that we would only be getting the merchant alliance loot or that the deal was off. Immediately me and another crewmate got to work, with me moving our brig to safety while putting their ship in the angle of our broadsides, and the other crewmate quickly raising their anchor and dismissing their ship by sending it off towards the nearby ghost fort, while grabbing their CoF and having me intercept him. The third guy who was still moving loot from the vault was attacked by one of the two crewmates of the sloop, while the other was forced to take the mermaid to save their ship. Your tips and footage were definitely accurate to what we experienced, though maybe if you're staying on the ship to watch, try doing something to make you less suspicious, like "fishing". If someone asks why you keep reeling in the rod when you're about to get a fish, just tell them that it's the wrong fish you were looking for. With FoFs and FotDs I usually claim I'm trying to catch a Sand Battlegill or trophy battlegills. Only time this defense hasn't really worked that well was when I was being watched seriously while fishing and have to reel in when I'm still watching and a trophy or sand spawns to take the bite.

Everyday YT puts a blue dot next to your name in my subscriptions and tricks me into being excited for new Phuzzy content! Glad to see YT was not lying today!

When working with an Ally it's good to set some ground rules in the beginning like I'm not going to go on your ship you don't go on my ship will help each other if there's a fight but other than that you're on your own you do your thing I'll do my thing. And then you just keep an eye on your map and the horizon like you normally would and if they act weird be prepared to defend

Tbh one of my crew always stays behind to watch the horizon and ship in general. I think it is good practice.

My story: We just finished a FoF and a brig rolled up>wanted to allience, alright we accepted until... They started putting the kegs in interesting places. First to the main room of the fort. Then to a field. Then closer to our ship. So we got paranoid. Yeah they went out with a bit big bang

I wish I had the willpower to play games like SoT longer than a few days. I just don’t have the attention span to do the same things repeatedly; after I use up all of my ideas & shenanigans the boredom hits hard.

Something interesting I've observed is that I get more betrayed when I'm with a crew than playing solo. I think when you are solo they don't see you as a threat and they won't think you'll betray them, so they don't betray you. But when you are with a crew they see you as a possible threat and simply betray you first in case you were gonna betray them.

I was doing hourglass with a friend yesterday, and we needed to stock up before diving again so we go to dagger tooth outpost before diving again, then we proceed to see this guy on the outpost with a guy with. I cosemetics, not captained or anything, who was being very oblivious. We sink them which we felt bad about but we needed supplies, then another sloop does a drive by and we set sail just before they can get a board off. We then dive to fight another Npc crew. It was a fun day

I got pirated for my first time in 125hrs. We took a sloop down, formed an alliance. They told me to use thier stack of fire bombs, then we cleared a FoF. They were nice. Disscussed a plan to split and sell the loot. Then... i got kegged and a blunder for my plunder. My feelings were moderatly hurt but i have tough skin. All the tell tale signs were there...But i also have formed successful and lucrative alliances in the past. My trust dial has been turned down a few nothches.

Just did a Fort of Fortune with a random Galleon crew, we had to sink 2 Sloops before doing the event. After it was done, one of the Sloops came back and we made an alliance so we didn't have to fight, they demanded the Chest of Fortune and Legends, my crew gave it over to them with no hesitation, sometimes you must be cautious of your own crew

I wish FoF was more common. I literally only see it once a week. Just never spawns, and if it does, its a war trying to get that damn chest lmao

HE PREDICTED WHY I AM HERE. HE IS THE MESSIAH! I am here because a brigantine betrayed me and an allied sloop. They stole a chest of fortune and some other loot from the fort. They left the alliance for some reason. We were mad, so us and the other sloop sunk em after they sold the chest of fortune.

Recently I was sailing with a friend on a sloop fight another sloop and all of sudden we came to stop (no anchor, sails still down) had no way of moving but after a good amount of time(5-10 minutes) we just started moving again? Was this hacking or just a bug? We are new and very unsure? Love the videos

Still working my way through the video, so far the biggest red flag is them boarding your ship and poking around in the hold. The maneuvering and aiming of cannons as others have said could be viewed as suspicious, but as you yourself said. Imagine they will attack you, and prepare your counterattack.

The “unusual defensiveness” part was more you than them.

The best way to defend against betrayal, is to betray.

My friend and I just played for over two hours doing a gold hoarder vault and exploring only to get sunk by a reaper rank 5 gally when the server merged. I'm an adult with a full time job, I don't have much time to spend playing video games. I don't know how much more SoT I can take boys. I just wanna do my pve in peace :(

Best way to do it. People always like to trust us. Pull up say we are helping and we only really need a certain amount of the loot. When its all done, let them take all the loot they need onto their boat. Take kegs from fort/other activity. Execute order 66 and blow everything up. Clean up. leave. Works everytime.

You keep looking at them, you reverse, they don't understand what's going on. :P You were sus to them too. That's more unusual defensiveness than they do, you kept doing everything to improve your position in case of a battle, whoever starts it.

"If you're watching this, you've probably just been betrayed or have never been in this scenario". Nah bro, I just love your quality uploads :3 Btw I've been betrayed and fooled only once in SoT, never after that. Although I'm a new player, I never trust anyone in an alliance up until the point we've divided the treasure. Many have tried to betray me after that, but I always got sure if the betrayal happens, my ship will be in an advantage position. The only time I was fooled - when we, a 3 ship alliance, decided to sell kegs. It didn't take long for one of the ships to get the idea of blowing them up, causing the other 2 to sink. They didn't sell anything tho, the game was kind enough to spawn us nearby and we sent the traitor to the depths of the ocean, taking back all the loot. ALWAYS BLOW UP THE KEGS WHEN IN ALLIANCE.

i want to want to play sot but now that im pirate legend it feels like there is nothing to do and i get bored

Hey Phuz, did you know that you can max Hunters Call ship milestones with bait crates? If you eat all the bait in 15 of them, you can get 45 milestones.

Feel like you should bring awareness to this, it feels like a very cheeky way to get the Legendary ship title.

Both crews knew the other was going to betray. What I find on the seas though is most players/crews, when they become that middle size fish (mid-tier player) they usually only meet noobs 90% of the time. Therefore they get that obnoxious authority syndrome where they expect to dominate every situation and when you don't comply they get salty or aggressive.

What capstan and wheel is that?

When you put a keg on someone's ship, doesn't it say "treasure donated"? For this reason when pulling betrayels, I never place a keg down on someone's ship, so please correct me if I'm wrong

90% of the time I kill on sight. The other 10% I ally with new players at forts. They can't sink me and I learned they usually don't betray. And I don't betray either.

In all fairness, you were 100% acting like you were planning something. If I saw you doing half of this I'd open fire before you had a chance to get a plan together.

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean the rest of the Sea *isn't* out to get you.

What I usually do, is openly asking another crew to move away so their cannons are not pointing at my ship. When it comes to opening the vault, I usually do it myself, and tell others to move away because I'm blowing the kegs. I'm primary leader and shot caller, people I meet at the sea call me "Captain" for a reason :) You actually acted suspicious, moving your ship, and rather than answering the questions asked by another crew you were making snarky remarks like "i get sunburn" Also they did kind of carry you, but can't tell fully from the cut, they dedicated 4 onto the island, you had many moments where 2/3 of your crew were on ship (at least between 3:40 and 8:45), sorry but the way you cut it makes it look like you did nothing. If I was the captain of other crew I'd ask your crew to send people to the island or we'll send ours back onto the ship. And last but not least, you were the one who put a keg on their ship, they didn't do it to you, you did everything because you assumed they could betray you, but ultimately you betrayed them first. You pushed them and gave them all reasons to worry, then betrayed them when they had enough of you. Great video, I enjoyed it.
