It's good. We also use same part of American Sign language(asl) in Zambian Sign language (Zsl). Good channel for starters.

@@LearnHowtoSign It's just beyond special! Many Zsl learners here in Zambia have taken the time to learn asl, which makes your channel their favourite. Thanks a lot for the Lessons. Truly, we sincerely appreciate.
Hello, Meredith! I'm a Russian girl who watches your videos from China 😄 For me ASL is a super understandable language compared to BSL, for example Looking forward to your new videos and thank you for quality content 🤟🤟

I learned basic CSL (Chinese Sign Language) while living in China, and I'm just now starting ASL. They're quite different, as CSL seems to rely much less on facial expressions. Also, some signs are just characters signed in the air (e.g 太). Even "hello" (你好 nǐ haǒ) is signed directly as "YOU-GOOD," with 早上好 also directly as "MORNING-GOOD." The syntax matches spoken Chinese much more closely than ASL does with American English. Overall, it's honestly kind of shocking how many syntactic similarities ASL and Mandarin share 😂

Wow that is SO interesting! Thank you for sharing!
I have a deaf/mute grandmother so I grew up to her signing to communicate with me. I never really picked it up as a child because we only ever visit her during the holidays and I was always afraid of her. Now that I’m older, I’m definitely trying to speak with her more. What I find really amusing though is that although she uses ASL, she mouths the words in Filipino so I basically have to translate from sign language to Filipino to English again.
Thank you Meredith. Short, sweet and to the point. Well done!!!

BSL seems more difficult compared to ASL, their alphabet uses two hands with specific big spread out shapes. I would think its hard to spell fast compared to ASL
Thank you for this video, I’m subscribed to your channel and have enjoyed learning ASL from you. I live in Singapore and like the US, we have a multitude of religions and beliefs in Singapore. Could you do a video on the different major religions, not just Christianity and the various denominations (Catholic, Baptist, Methodist, Orthodox Christian), but others too like ( Buddhism/ Buddhist, Hinduism/ Hindu, Islam/ Muslim, Jew/Judaism, Shinto, Atheist/ Agnostic, Sikh/ Sikhism, Wiccan. Also, the places of worship (church, temple, mosque, synagogue, etc) and some of the holy books (Bible, Quran/ Koran, Torah, Vedas, Bhagva Gita, Sutras). I know the US is a largely Christian nation and they are probably more ASL signs based on Christian beliefs, denominations and practices. Are most, if not all other non-Christian beliefs/ religions spelt out in ASL or are there actual proper signs for these non-Christian Religions? Thanks!

Hi ! I'm a bit new to your channel, I recently started learning ASL. Thank you so much for what you're doing, keep it up !! I just wanted to ask something, I've seen it in one of your videos but it was really brief, it's about prounouns in ASL. My question is, would it be possible for you to make a video focusing on only how to sign them please ?

I wrote a paper a few years ago on if sign language contained different accents akin to a southern versus Midwest accent. Is that seen within ASL?

It is! Some differences are speed of signing and various signs are different depending on the region.
What research was used for the statistics given about the most popular sign languages?
It’s nice that Canadians get mentioned because it’s really confusing if you don’t know if ASL will work for you if you’re Canadian

Repetition is key. Also signing along with the video to put each sign to practice. Hope this helps.
I feel the reason ASL is not higher up is because Americans don’t hear about sign language enough and when they do they don’t think twice. I feel it should be taught in all schools not just in middle and or high school as well as sign language for other countries. People tend to think oh sign language isn’t that just [enter language] on the hands? No it’s not. People don’t see any need to know it unless they know someone. I feel we need to show it more in America and other countries.
Anyone reading this: whatever your country’s official sign language is I think that should be the first sign language you ever learn if you choose to learn it all. That’s what people in your country will use more than any other sign language. If you would like to learn more sign languages learn ones not used in your country second.

I was under the wrong understanding (I assumed). I thought the world over used ASL meaning,in my mind only, universal. So even though all spoken language is different all sign would be the same.
