Note - several huge updates have happened since this video. While this strategy should roughly work, so much has changed you're better off looking elsewhere.
Hey belters! A couple notes on this video if you're analyzing it for pirate hunting strategies:
- I was new at the time, don't judge me too hard ;)
- In this case, a belter cargo ship also spawned. The pirate was targeting him instead of me, so this is slightly different from a normal situation because the pirate wasn't chasing me or firing torps at me.
- In normal situations, you'll be burning away from the pirate as he shoots torps at you. When using fixed rails, I recommend holding course away from the pirate while you shoot down torps, then wait until he's coasting at 350 before lining up a shot with your rail. Once you've killed their thrust, try to sit about 4km away and rail their power until conveyor lights turn red.
- You'll notice I went into CQB after most railgun shots. This isn't required, but can speed up the looting process. I also closed to about 1000m several times, which you should avoid. Either way, PDCs should always be set to repel mode, target subsystems, target power.
- Pirate hull integrity has been increased since this video was taken, so they will often not be as destroyed as this. Still, be sure to look around the wreck for floating flaks like you'll see in this video.
- In general, if you're starting with all Voltaires, you should have at leas 8 rear facing volts with good arcs around your drive cone. Upgrade these to flaks ASAP.
