Nice to see more content on the Sigma zooms, especially the 50-100mm. I think that lens doesn’t have enough coverage and is worth looking at

Best review on practice with this lens ( 18 - 35 ) just what I needed. Thank you Julia !!!!!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Awesome video Julia! Great videos always 🙌🏻
Best review on those lens beasts!!
Such a pretty photoshoot 😍
Loved the video Julia! Love these BTS
The 18-35 is a lovely lens. Thanks for the video showing both lenses.
I’m constantly watching this video. You know how to inspire:)
I've had both lenses for my 70D for the past couple years. They're amazing. Warning: The 50-100 is an absolute beast of a lens in terms of it's weight. I'm sure the 18-35 is like 800 grams which many people consider heavy'ish but since I use the 50-100 about 80% of the time going back to the 18-35 feels like i'm carrying a feather. The heavy weight of the 50-100 doesn't bother me but some people might struggle with it for long shoots. I do find that my focussing can be off a little bit but I'm not experienced enough to know if that's my error, the camera or the lens. Perhaps with modern cameras that have eye af it won't be a problem. The only two lenses you need on aps-c.
Thank you! You are helping me a lot in getting into photography!!!
Insane. I really do like that you did this review. I've always wondered about these lenses in a real world portrait session situation.

The Sony 24-70 2.8 is awesome. Your video looks great. I just wish I could afford one!
I think a neat faceoff would be these versus 24-70 & 70-200. Would love to see that!
These are amazing!
Elegant and patient model. Great location too. I have the Sigma 18-35mm and after making autofocus adjustments, the lens is razor sharp but also has the best color saturation between all my other Nikkor lenses. I was using the Nikkor 17-55mm for every day and scenic shots. It does amazing work, but now I have to wonder if the 18-35mm wouldn't do better. I mainly got this lens to shoot video as the glass in it is not unlike a cinema lens.

This makes me so happy to hear 💛 just keep on practicing!
I used the same kit like Julia did for quite awhile and I did tried before with the 80d, I totally recommend this two lens to be a match. Autofocus never failed me throughout many events and weddings. But if your canon has dpaf, definitely maximise these two lens and your camera by shooting via liveview. CA is a problem but you can remove them in lightroom. Shot video with them and my only complain is either sigma didn’t put ILIS or Canon doesn’t have IBIS. Now using them as my second camera and still recommend ppl that don’t mind apsc to get this as a matching gear
I've learned so much from watching your videos I just have one question you might have covered this but do you use manual or auto focus primarily for portraits?
Really looking at getting this sigma 18-35 for my gh5 using an adapter, only draw back is heavy to travel almost a KG
Cuteness overloaded 😍
She has such a beautiful smile, her whole face lights up, but soon as you lift the camera to shoot the contemplative melancholy look comes back 😃 Nice review, but honestly you can make any lens/camera look good
omg i have the 18-35mm and love it
Those unedited photos look so good
I’ve never clicked on a video so fast! The 18-35 f1.8 is by far my favourite cropped sensor lens. I gave my Canon 16-35 f2.8 II away as I kept comparing it to the Sigma. I tend to take two cameras with me for landscapes so I can use this lens with my filters. I do think time spent on the Sigma Hub is time well invested with their Art and Sports lenses. A great video, thank you.

Thank you! Gosh I loved the 18-35 so much!! I would definitely have it be part of my kit if I shot on crop frame more :D
Great futage keep up the good work 👍😀
Dan's a pro. Video looks fantastic as always. I did realize I like a wider angle when watching you work. It gives a better perspective on your surroundings throughout the shoot. No complaints though! Was super cool to see you testing lenses and sensor with which I have personal experience. These lenses are spectacular. I did tons of research before I bought them. And I found a KZread vid that had the proper settings for my 18-35 via Sigma dock. The 50-100 was fortunately already sharp as hell. Downside as you know is the 50-100 is a straight up brick. I got a fancy ifootage monopod to use with it and I still wasn't encouraged to actually use the thing. So then I bought the Sigma 50mm to keep me company until I have the patience to try it out again. I know I'll love it once I get use to the heft. Thank-you for delving into aps-c for us. I was considering f1.2- f1.4 primes before, but I think you may have changed my mind and made me realize what I have now is good enough :)

Can you make a video about the image quality of the Canon 7d mkii
Lovely model.
shooting with this maximum aperture at 1.8, does it have any advantage over blur?
Great shoot! I would looove to see you shoot with the bokeh monster sigma 105mm 😀
Great Julia 👌👌👌👌 I have already canon m 50 mirorless crop sensor With a 50 mm lens .. I wanna change to 18 .35 coz i need wider shot with blury background Do you advise me ? To buy it ? 🌹
Nice video and nice photo i like sigma lenses but ihave't it yet what abut 50-100 mm f1,8 for nikon D7200 🙏
that why i prefer manual focus regime ;) so my sort answer is only manual regime for all cameras and lens, only with exertion if you have A9, and may be A6300 or A7 III if you are agree with only 10 frames per second.
Great video ! Thanks
I liked it before I watched it. 😄 I tried it in a camera store in SG and it did have some focusing issues on my 80D. 😢
@dennisagusdianto315
5 жыл бұрын
Yeah same here, idk why on 80D its quite hard to nail the focus on 1.8
I have the 18-35 mm one and I'm loving it! Yes it misses focus a lot, like 40-50% of the time when using the viewfinder, especially when you're not focusing it on the center. But you can fix it by using the live view! I have never had an issue with focusing when using the live view. I really want to get a hand on the 50-100 mm like it's the 80-160 mm f2.8 equivalent on the full frame! How good is that?

I open your videos and click like asap. I'm SO SO SO happy to see you use this lens (18-35). It is one of my fav crop zoom lenses and maybe the best lens I have, even adapted to my Sony a6500. I bought it originally for my Canon crop, which i've sold, but it is so good I've adapted it for my Sony. It is heavy, but does amazing work! Not a fan of the 50-100...too much CA and it looked like it missed focus A LOT!

@@juliatrotti I usually shoot fashion photography and replaced it with a 16-35 2.8. But I'm not very pleased with it. I can't really get passed the the black circle around the edges of the photograph when i shoot full frame with the sigma 18-35
I have the R7 and just got the 18-35mm. I'm seriously considering the 50-100 or the 85mm 1.4 macro.
I'm actually thinking of getting both of these lenses. The image looked great and to be honest, I thought the sigma zoom looked sharper than the 50mm you compared but maybe it's just me.
@juliatrotti
5 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's why I showed the comparison between the zoom and the 50mm. So good how ridiculously sharp it is plus it's a zoom! :D
The images look very good. My first dslr was eos 400D, then I got 7D and last year the 7Dii. The 7Dii is a great camera and mated to the sigma Art lenses or canon L the results are fantastic. It is an underrated camera. Though it is the one of most popular cameras with amateurs. IMO canon need to release a firmware update to keep it current. But they will not so you have to buy a new body like the over priced eos R or RP !
I was thinking about upgrading to full frame, but those lenses changed my mind.

@debangarajchoudhury1409

No wonder this lens is mostly sold with the USB dock as a bundle on b&h photo.
If you want to nail the focus you have to play around with your camera's focus system to find out what will work fine in sigma 50-100, in my nikon if I want AF-S mode I have to increase the aperture value to 2.8f and if I want to use 1.8f I will change my focusing mode to AF-C Dynamic Area D25.
I’m renting this lens for upcoming Mother’s Day family portraits outdoor & at the studio as well as senior photos, do we think this will preform well? I’m a beginner of 2 years!😊
Nice video I have a question regarding crop magnification. If you were to use a 50mm designed for full frame would you have to multiply it by 1.6?

The 18-35 Sig must be calibrated to your camera for optimal AF through the view finder. This can be done with their dock for $50. Its takes a few hours to do but its pretty simple. Or you can send the camera and the lens to sigma for calibration.
Would like to take a Canon 6d ii camera for a review
Came here for lens, left here in love with Mahalia!
Just a few suggestions. Use the lens shade; it'll help combat your image getting washed in situations where there's bright specular light just out of frame. Also while holding an SLR, you can be much steadier by turning your non-grip hand 180 degrees (so your thumb is pointing away from the center of your body), hand horizontal like you're holding a tiny serving tray, body of the camera resting in your palm, fingers around the barrel and elbow braced against your torso. It might feel weird at first, but it's considerably more stable; look at how pros hold their camera. It also puts your fingers in a position to manually focus while holding the camera steady.

Yesss I would love to do that!
Crop sensor camera here, I need help with a buying decision... I mostly do Portrait and I'm just getting into the Business kinda. Should I get; the sigma 24mm f1.4 + the 30mm f1.4 for around 850€ or this sigma 18-35mm f1.8 for like 640€? I have the canon 50mm f1.8 (which on a crop sensor is like the 85) and a 24mm f2.8 (which on a crop sensor is like the 35). I have a Engagement Party shooting coming up and I need something to handle the dim lights without too much noise and I also want to get into 'nighttime' photography more...
Thank you Julia for guiding me to this video of your shoot with the 18-35mm, f1.8 lens. I was mistakingly under the impression that the 18-35mm lens, (even on a crop sensor camera) would cause too much distortion. I am so glad you set me straight on that misconception! Am I correct to assume that you would use this lens for portraiture at the 23 "ish" to 35mm range? I loved the shots you took of your model and the detail shown! I guess I won't need an 85mm lens for awhile! Thanks again!

So glad you liked it! Since this is a crop lens the widest end of 18mm actually has a field of view of roughly 28mm, which is a little bit wide for portraits but you can get some nice results there. Then anything more zoomed in than that works really well for portraits too :)
