Are you using a tripod for this lens? I have the same lens attached to a Nikon D5500 and I've just been up NC500 trying to get pictures of puffins from cliffs etc and I found that the result was quite blurry when using between 200-300mm and most shots using it were quite overexposed, but my Nikon 70-300 was performing much better (It's just more convenient to have one lens when travelling)

Ryan, the lens is a Sigma 18-250 F/3.5-6.3 DC MACRO OS HSM . Can I suggest that when using a tripod you switch off the image stabilisation, if left on the stabilisation causes blur when combined with a tripod. Switch this back on if hand held. I also have a Sigma 150-600mm contemporary lens, I use a ( Gitzo GHFG1 Fluid Gimbal Head ) with this, a very nice combination. The other possibility for your blur is shutter speed, possibly too slow. Puffins are very fast, tracking them in flight is tricky, on the ground it is usually okay, TRY THESE SETTINGS! Picture control Standard or landscape, aperture priority, auto ISO. set minimum shutter speed to 1/60 or 1/125. Avoid Cpl filter as it slows shutter by 1 stop. If I can help you with anything, just ask. I hope these suggestions help, I photographed these Puffins on the Isle of May, East coast.

I don't understand effects? Grad ND FILTERS,The light house had this lighting for about 3 minutes, Planned the timing over a couple of days, got lucky.

I recommend using auto ISO, grad ND filters help the sky. Image composite editor free download.Great camera the D5300. Enjoy, I use paint shop pro x8, changed to 2019 edition last week.HDR has it's usage. :) Thx for looking at my images. I used a 2x converter for some of the puffin images, but would advise the 1.4 as the 2x is asking a lot from this lens.

Derek Gillan thx for answer. Sorry for this bad english...Do you use the nikon converter? I thought it don't work with the sigma lens....(remember a discription from their website).

You are correct, sigma tele-converter for sigma, Nikon for Nikon, Kenko work with both or together. This works better than 2x for auto focus.Kenko AF 1.4x MC4 DGX Conv Lens. Remember crop factor 1.5x 250mm =375mm use 1.4 converter 250mm = 525mm
