    We all know that real competitor here is Sony 200-600. It definately deserves comparison and I'm sure there will be many as it's less expensive option. And it looks quite sharp. The biggest disadvantage here is that Sony lens have internal zoom, where this thing is long. I know some people may enjoy long things, but here it's opposite. On the other hand, probably because of that Sony have quite long minimum focusing distance.

    Yeah, it'd be interesting if he could check the Sony RX100 and RX10, just to get a feel of how these cameras compare with his standarized test, but anyway don't expect the same level of sharpess at equivalent apertures (remember the 1in has a 2.7 factor that you need to apply to apertures and focal lengths).

  • @bozmundarts2614

    @bozmundarts2614

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@brunofalcone9979 yeah, it isnt that you have to apply crop factor, it is just to know what it'd be equivalent to on the framing to a 35mm sensor, the apertures only applies to depth of field, the exposure remains equal, i have a canon m100 with the 22mm lens, and i recently acquired a sony rx100 VA and its zeiss 24-70 lens is quite sharper wide open, i've compared them, and idk if sony's bsi stacked sensor is that powerful compared to a regular aps-c canon sensor. but i can assure you the sharpness is still quite excellent even if its a one ich sensor... i dont recommend you to see dpreview's sample gallery though, after using mine i can tell they turn on noise reduction which absolutely downgrades the quality to phone softness-

  • @brunofalcone9979

    @brunofalcone9979

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@bozmundarts2614 Hi! The thing is that if you apply crop factor to the focal length, you also have to apply it to the aperture. See loads of resources online on equivalence, like Tony Northup or F-stoppers, which explain this in detail. So, your RX100 24-70 lens is a F4.8-F7.5, so to compare sharpess with a Full Frame lense, you'll have to set the FF lens to F4.8-F7.5, otherwise you're not comparing like with like. A Full Frame F1.8 lens is not the same as the one in the RX100.

  • @bozmundarts2614

    @@brunofalcone9979 that's uhm... it lets in as much light, but the smaller sensor producess a depth of field equivalent to 2.7 times to a full frame. but it does let in as much light, if i set them up equally the exposure remains the same but the *depth of field* is where there's a noticeable difference, but the amount of light that hits the sensor through the lens is the very exact same. it'd need a true design expert to do the comparison, but when using a low aperture in many lenses you'll see a bit of difference in sharpness, wether its full frame, aps-c, and one inch sensor that is very similar throughout each one's ranges. besides we know tony northup can make bold statements that arent necessarily right, like the "iso is fake" one where other people started testing and noting that bumping your brigthness in post production doesnt necessarily create an image as clear as manually rising your iso in camera.

    I'm currently testing the 200-600 on loan from a family member to see if I want to buy it, and so far I haven't been over the moon with it like I was when right from the hop with the 100-400mm GM. At least not enough to drop $2,000 on it. With the Sigma being $500ish cheaper, that may be more compelling for me, so I'm looking forward to your upcoming comparison.

    CF always speaks in terms of the category of lens. Obviously a 105mm Macro with that IQ would be considered bad, while an 8mm fisheye would be considered groundbreaking.

    I remain more impressed with Sigma's 60-600mm Sports lens as more universal and tack sharp, though a bit heavier. The main downside of both Sigma super-telephoto zoom lenses is the long and stiff turrent turns to zoom in and out.

    Sigma has stated before that they require a licence even to reverse engineer Canon, so this probably also applies to Nikon. Furthermore, Sigma and Canon have a good relationship, whereas Sigma and Nikon generally have some animosity.

    This one is substantially lighter, and the EF versions both had the similar IQ as each other, just more travel worthiness + AF for the Sports class. The later 60-600mm apparently had better IQ.
