So I’m new to sight fish and I do it from a kayak. I have been able to catch quite a few reds but I’m still learning and enjoying every bit of it. I am curious as to how far out you can spot fish in the water? I have noticed that most of the fish I catch are within 50 feet from me or less. Do you sight fish reds relatively close as well? Tight lines

The closer you are to the water the harder it may be to see them farther out from you. This day we could see the tailers pretty far from the boat but when you’re on top of the cooler on the boat it’s much higher than even standing in a kayak. You still have to get close enough to cast no mater how far out you see them!

That's awesome. It's tough, but super rewarding! If it's calm, we can see fish tailing/waking up to a couple hundred yards away. Generally, we will use the kayak (or skiff) to get within 75' of the fish. When kayak fishing, 90% of the fish I sight fish are within 50'.
