I would absolutely love to see more about star wars corporations, I mean with all the ships and tech lying about, there has to be many (or few) private corporations making all of these products and really understanding how the galactic economy works, since this is a system that spans "systems", makes you wonder how it could ever be managed.

Ken Valderrama I believe to because income also made ships for the empire, so they were an ally. Also there would definitely be backlash if the empire were to just attack an allied corporation because of such frivolous issues, not to mention how expensive end resource intensive it would be to attack not only the company that makes ships for you, but one that can just make more ships to keep fighting. see: Battle of Kuat Drive Yards
I think Sienar have cooler sounding ships. The rebel alliance didn’t have the resource for the complicated x-wings, then sienar went out to make the tie interceptor and tie defender two of which are very powerful in their own rights. When sienar want it strong they make it strong.

11:55 The TIE was very important. The Imperial star destroyers had very little anti-fighter defenses. Putting all it's power into anti-ship batteries so it relied on the TIE fighters to protect them. That's part of why they are so short ranged as they were never supposed to be far from their carriers. Rebel ships included many more point defense systems and were generally better armored so they didn't rely on fighter protection as much. That meant their fighters were tasked with more offensive roles since the firepower of most rebel ships was rather low.

First time I saw it I always loved the Arc170, intelligence and recon, assault and heavy, it seemed to almost fill to many roles to be efficient OR effective but that's why I wanted it, a craft perfect for mod's or ready off the line to deal with most problems that a single pilot would have to deal with, making it better for a aggressive exaple leader or lone wolf bounty hunter

I always pick the middle ground one size fit all machine unless I absolutely must pick something smaller/faster or bigger/stronger If I need a Corvette, Cargo, Gunship or Interceptor class ship I get the best one for me and the job but the ship for few people possible often as possible I'll get the ARC170, definitely if I was a bounty hunter, turn the copilot seat into a brig, get another droid for the rear guns and repair, use the room in back for more/bigger/better engines/hyperdrive and defense's, more missile launchers and rapid fire guns, faster heavy cannons and then just upgrade everything around as needed
One thing you left out, from Legends, is that the Prototype T-65 X-Wing was the prototype for the TIE Fighter's replacement. The Empire was supposed to start production and deployment of X-Wings, but the mass defection of the design staff with the sole existing prototype and all the design schematics killed that plan.
It's not a rivalry it's a friendship. These guys need each other.
Great video, it’s interesting to hear about the company’s that produce the vehicles in Star Wars. In real life all the planes, tanks, ships and weapons were made by companies that we still have today. Ford, Mitsubishi, BMW,Skoda, plus there are lots that we don’t have today Junker ,Messerschmitt, Vickers, Hawker...
I always felt that the TIE was a better dog fighter thanks to episode 4, it was lighter and faster and not having shields, hyperdrive, or life support, allowed it to funnel all its power into weapons and speed. When a TIE gets on an X-wings tail it's almost always game over for the X-wing
The AH-4 Z-95 was also pretty good and had hardpoints to add more ordinance.
It's a lie. The X-Wing was made by Pontiac, and TIE series is made by Nissan. The Falcon wasn't built by Corellian Engineering, either. It's just what a GMC Vandura looks like in that universe.

Thanks for this, this one easily one of the greatest stories never told. Is there a video about Kuat Drive Yards? What about the MonCal?
6:40 No. The Venator had excellent point defense systems. The fighters were mainly for offense. While it had 8 turbo laser batteries they were very low powered for a cruiser sized ship. They could engage in shootouts with other capital ships and their strong shields and decent armor let them last quite a while. But they heavily relied on their fighters and bombers to tip the scale in their favor.

Enjoy your videos as always, despite your pronunciation of See En Ar Systems, lol. Always considered TIE Defender to be one of the strongest mass produced naval vessels in SW, and often fielded one hundred TIE/s, three hundred TIE/Defs, three Raider corvettes and two Imp Star Destroyers, to be the perfect Thrawn style surgical armada. Well reviewed !
Allen, in the lore, the TIE Interceptors have it being superior to an X-Wing in every way but shielding. Its actually so powerful that it kills B-Wings with a single shot, so I don't know how only the Tie-Defender is the true first counter to an X-Wing? The lore has TIE Interceptors and Fighters being super easy to mod, probably so they could save money and allow elite Squadrons to mount more advanced systems, like Khyber drives, shields, beam weapons and so on. So I would include that as an important attribute.
@andyb1653
4 жыл бұрын
Overall performance, yes the TIE Interceptor is better, But the X-Wing still has 3 distinct advantages: -Hyperdrive -Deflector Shields -Warhead launchers The TIE Defender has all of these, is even faster than the TIE Interceptor, and has ion cannons to boot. The TIE Interceptor beats the X-Wing in several categories, but the TIE Defender just beats the X-Wing outright.

@Devenix8527
4 жыл бұрын
You forget that the Interceptor still had no hyperdrive; despite allegedly being better than the X-Wing (Imperial propaganda at its finest) the Interceptor was still a short ranged fighter with no shields, life support, usually no secondary weapons, large profile due to the wings (still smaller than a standard TIE), and no hyperdrive to chase down Rebel fighters. The Defender, however, DID have a hyperdrive, shields, and secondary weapons. That's how it's the true counter to the X-Wings.

The ARC 170 design is actually a historical comparison. Just as the Star Wars was inspired by the Battle of Britain and especially some movies, the turreted fighter was an idea that some people toyed with, including Winston Churchill. He supported an idea where a fighter would be equipped with a turret, and aircombat would look like two battleships sailing side by side and hammering each other until one or the other sank. Some planes were produced, and indeed, proved to be slow, heavy, cumbersome and having way too little firepower, taking massive losses in the war. Luckily, other models with more sensible design were also being developed, monoplane, single pilot craft with fixed forward armament and concentrating on speed and maneuverability: the Hurricane and the Spitfire, the real life X and A wings. You can even see it in the design, the long nose of the X-wing mimicking the equally long nose of the Spitfire, housing first the hugely powerful Rolls-Royce Merlin engine, and later the monstrous Rolls-Royce Griffon exceeding over 2000 hp.
For a future video, I'd like to see one on the Nubian Design Collective. I find the "Naboo starship" designs - derived from the Nubian Design Collective - interesting, especially the "J-type Star Skiff". Yet there's very little in-depth information about them on youtube (both the company and the ships themselves (other than the big chromed yacht in Phantom Menace).
I would be down for more videos about corporations and the other parts of star wars
It would be nice to see a breakdown of the small arms manufacturers (blasters, lightsabres, small missile systems, combat droids, etc) and their relationships with various regimes and peoples.

Can you do a video on the Sixty-First Mobile Infantry, AKA Twilight Company? It would be a good way to showcase the Rebel infantry after going in depth about the fighters that they used.
The age old question, which pilots were best? Rebels in the X-Wings or Imperials in their TIE's? Rebel pilots could become to dependant on the X-Wings shields in a dogfight whereas the Imperial pilot had to live on his skill and wits as one shot could kill him. This is probably why the best Rebel pilots were Imperial defectors who had been trained and flown TIE fighters. They were a meld of the two best qualities, instinctive piloting in a starfighter with a shield :)

To go super, SUPER off topic, I just noticed something about Ahsoka's big fucking oof in the battle over Ryloth. When she defied orders and lost most of her squadron, she landed last. Under heavy fire, she was careful to make sure that her surviving pilots got in safely, under her cover. That frankly makes the whole thing alot more tragic, and Ahsoka alot cooler. She may have lost most of her squadron to her own ineptitude, but she wouldn't loose what few pilots she had left, even if it left her less protected. She took her losses VERY seriously, and was willing to risk her life to keep her troops alive. There are ALOT of much older Jedi you can't say that about.

Construct Rebellion ships with Star Fleet technology, i. e. phasers instead of blasters. Warp engines instead of hyperdrives that only had one setting.
that is a different point than people typically make Most only focus on high quality fighters vs low quality but high quantity. But putting the resources into capital ships and having the fighters serve less of a role is a completely different dynamic. It's the difference between having bombers take down the enemy capital ships and your capital ships haveing an advanced sheild that uses less energy and let's the power all go into poerfull guns and blowing up the enemy. Now taking out the sheilds make sence, because they aren't taking out yours without fighters. Oh yeah, the enemy can't make good fighters. At the time, the ties were the best fighters.
