I think the original is better honestly. It's almost treated like a horror scene, which I think fits greatly. 6 just seems like POAWWAA!!

The Soul Calibur version of this ending scene makes Siegfried look like "Dude, i'm chilled. Here's my soul, take it", whereas with the old version, it looks like "No, let me go" and gives people a sense of horror.

It's still creepy the way Siegfried turns into Nightmare in Soul Edge. I almost thought his skin melted off.

The fact that, with the graphics at that time, you can see Siegfried's face full of pain, horror and regret at the same time rather than just a stationary face texture.

The original gives more of a chilling feeling that Seigfried is being possessed versus SC6 making it less chilling and more epic.

@Shane Douglas Thank you. Even in his scream in Soul Edge he sounds horrified by what the sword is doing to him. In SC6 he more like "I can't stop this sword from taking over my body."

Yeah, Soul Blade's version to me, will always be the creepiest. Siegfried is like, "What the fuck is happening?! SOMEBODY HELP ME!!!". Not to mention the soundtrack dissonance, which for some reason makes it more unsettling

I actually thought that the original version of the scene was terrifying, with the way that Soul Edge's claws dug into Sieg's hand as he became Nightmare.

The Soul Blade version was so unsettling to me as a kid lol. I expected a happy ending🤣

I was always scared of Siegfried's Bad Ending. Such a Horror Movie feel to it

What's even scarier in the edge master lore book, Siegfried had already gone to the path of insanity after denying that he himself beheaded his own father after an accidental raid. Him being consumed by Soul Edge is the most tragic and fitting ending. He is his own enemy.

Eh, the original is better. For one thing he showed resistance after it clamped his hand and he struggled to get it off. The remake had him only look like he was only trying to hold the power to himself but just slipped

I miss Jamieson Price being a narrator. His narration sounds like he's in Dynasty Warriors games.

I've been following your journey/ our journey to Soul Caliber 6. Its been one hell of a ride thank you.

I think the original is better for 2 reasons: 1) The calm before the storm. The fact that there's a small moment of reprieve makes you wonder at first "Oh, is it okay to pick up?", and then it's claws suddenly dig into his hand in a startling manner, leading to Siegfried's transformation into the dreaded Nightmare. 2) The new one is way overdone and over the top. Less is very often more, and a man screaming as a cursed blade grabs onto him as he's slowly transformed into a monster speaks so much louder than the flashy lightning everywhere, earth-rumbling, storm-brewing version we see in the second version. Also, another reason less is more: it's WAY more believable. Original > Newer.

I'm gonna play Devils advocate here and point out that before the Soulcalibur VI version of that cutscene starts playing, the narrator *does* let you know Sigfrieds mind is "twisted and unwell", and at the beginning of his Soulcalibur VI Soul Chronicle, he tells the player that Sigfried killed his father, not seeing that the man was his father until it was too late, and so as a form of *denial* of his deed, he *imagined* a murderer and convinced himself that murderer was real, and sought Soul Edge to use as an instrument of *vengeance* against that imaginary murderer, which's in fact his backstory established by Soul Edge and later the original Soulcalibur. So Sigfried *was* in fact in a mental state that Soul Edge could take advantage of like the cutscene was making him look. That said, I *do* have to agree with everyone who says the *original* version is generally better due to it having more of a *horror* element that seems more appropriate for a sword like Soul Edge, and I honestly think that if the Soulcalibur VI version replicated that more, that flashy Evil Seed at the end would've felt a lot more *ominous* .

I definitely prefer Soul Edge version. Sure it might have it's awkward elements but so does 6's take. The style and tone is graver and carries itself remarkably confident for being the first in a brand new game style/space. S.E/S.B has so much charm and personality that it to this day sticks the landing in it's communication of intent and style of story telling. It is still remarkable almost 30 years later. He's suppose to be. As told in Soulcalibur's recap of Soul Blade, Siegfried was neck deep in delirium on his quest to find Soul Edge. By the time he confronted Inferno, he had a crazed look on his face, like someone more than happy to tear into flesh and blood

That's how Nightmare was first appeared in this game.

The original is so much better. It would have been nice to see that exact scene done in VI's graphics. It's almost like the devs had no idea why fans remember that ending decades later.

the soulblade 1996 version, we know that the weapon promised Siegfried that if he takes the weapon, soul edge will resurrect his father, so Siegfried grabs the sword, but souledge scammed him and just wanted a body to possess, hence the cries of Siegfried who wanted to drop the sword, without success. in the 2018 version, we just see that Siegfried thought he was Algol, and believed he had a strong mentality to resist the influence of the weapon.

I like the original more, because it’s obvious that Siegfried is terrified of the mistake he made, but the “GYAAAAAAAH!!!” in SC6 is a bit more fitting at the end, because you wouldn’t really be screaming in pain after already being corrupted, right?

I have never seen the original before but it is better. Eventhough the graphics are so old, I noticed the fear in Siegfried after the sword took a hold of him. I also liked the environments more. In the new version, everything looks generic including the colors and you don't really feel for the character because he seems indifferent too.

I mean yeah Soul Edge's (I'm calling the game by it's real name, fuck Edge Magazine nobody reads you) ending is scarier, but you also didn't see it coming. That only happens to Siegfried. The sword didn't try to claim anyone else like that. Voldo can just bring it home. With 6 being a reboot set after the fact though, they kinda just cut to the point with the transformation and you only really see the "OH FUCK WHAT DID I JUST DO?!" in his face briefly as he pulls Soul Edge from the ground.

I prefer BOTH versions Original: Feels like he made a most fatal mistake. "No wait, PLEASE! Lemme go!!" Remade: Feels like a man possessed by pure evil. "The sword....it....it's calling for me..."

Also, I think the original voice actor was better. THE RECENT ONE IS TERRIBLE! He over acts in the 6th game more than Christian Bale when he was Batman. 🤦🏼‍♀️ They should've hired Matthew Watterson to voice the recent Sieg instead of that wimpy possible SJW. Then he would sounded more badass!
