'god abandoned us' is not an Islamic term. We Muslims never see life in that way. That's a Christian say. Personification of god is Christian way not Muslim (similar to jewish) way of dealing with god,middle eastern(Abrahamc precisely) way of dealing with god. We have a mentality similar to jews than to Christians dealing with catastrophies. They would have said ' gods will' in good and bad. Or that's a wrath of god. I'm atheist by the way ex Muslim.

That's nonsense. When your whole world is collapsing, you may very well state that allah has abandoned you. And remember, it's the wife who says this. The king was still praying. Ultimately, it's a psychological situation.

I think Christians are more prone to say that god abandoned them, but I also do not think no Muslim *ever* says Allah abandoned them. In such a huge group of people, you can't vouch for the piety and mental strength of each member. Plus, there are extreme circumstances where most if not all humans would truly lose all hope or faith through no fault of theirs. Atheist here as well.

I agree with you. The mentality of muslims is that way that in cases like this they blame themselves and admit their failure and errors. When I feel no connection with God due to my low Imaan, I always blame myself, because my choices have made me this way. Allah is forgiving, and He never leaves those who believe in Him, unless they leave Him first. Allah is the most merciful, the most forgiving. Allah says that if a person makes a step towards Him, He will "run" towards that person. The meaning is that He will forgive that person. And it is forbidden in Islam to think that you can never be forgiven, that praying and asking forgivness is in vain. Allah always forgive those who regret, if the case was between Him and the person. But Allah gives the right to forgive or not to humans when one person kill/rape/or do something unjustful against other to the victim. I am sorry for my bad english.

Well... That's the Spanish version. According to real story, Spain got coerced Boabdil... So he was forced to concede Granada to the Catholic Kings. This is a TV series; it's not necessary to be accurate historically.

Well, actually they abandon Allah. Boabdil "El chicho" are afraid of death, even he sent his uncle Muhammad El Zagal to Morocco to exiled and blinded by his friend after El Zagal defeated in battle against Spain (Castilla and Leon)

Have you watched the whole series? It is a complicated series with complicated characters, quite true to the complicated history. For example, the Moors are not simply the "villains", the enemies of the Spanish in the series, they are actually very likeable characters. I myself felt sympathy for Boabdil, Aixa was one of my favourite characters in the whole show, and the love story between Muley Hacén and Zoraya was very touching.

No, this series is mostly accurate and tell the truth even real history cruelty of inquistion as revenge of reconquista spirit. Like or not, Spain (Castille and Leon) are winning the war and annexed almost all iberian peninsula including andalucia.

This is the most sympathetic portrayal I've seen from a western historical show. I'm not saying it's completely accurate, but that's because it was written in modern times and dramatized for a show. They definitely did not portray the Muslims as evil and violent, in fact they heavily imply that it's the religious extremist Catholics that paint them so. Of course, religion in general was more widely and deeply held at that time.
