Sidney Poitier (Lilies Of The Field, 1963, and The Oscar)
Фильм және анимация
In a month's time we have lost Bell Hooks, Desmond Tutu and now one of the finest actors to dazzle the silver screen with a range of magnificent performances. Sidney Poitier played a myriad of complex character with an uncommon elan. In 1963, he became the first Black actor to win an Oscar for Best Actor. This is the ending from the same film, which was directed by Ralph Nelson. In this scene, Homer Smith, played by Sidney Poitier leaves Mother Maria, played by Lilia Skala after building them a chapel. After taking one last look at the chapel he built, Smith, knowing that his work is done, slips into his car and drives quietly off into the night. What a fitting tribute for an actor and activist who paved the way for many from the Black community to leave their mark on the big screen. The clip is followed by the actor receiving the Oscar.

God bless you, and thank you for your contributions to mankind
Sidney Poitier had an intensity few actors possessed. He did not have to have violent scenes in order to draw his audience in. He used his personal gifts. In any scene he was in, in any movie, he was never dull,

Yes, indeed. Sidney Poitier was a highly accomplished and sophisticated actor.

I'll second the comment about intensity. He could stand in one spot and say nothing, and you could still feel the energy. And he starred in movies in a time when special effects practially didn't exist; the acting had to carry the film. And he did that so well!
I wish they still made movies like this.

This movie is a precious gem. Pity that Hollywood does not make gems like these anymore. Sidney Poitier is perfect in this movie.

Absolutely, on both accounts! 👍
Sidney Poitier lent an air of profoundness to all his films, which is a rare, beautiful thing.
Gosh, how deep has Hollywood sunk since then!
Is anyone more appealing than Sydney Poitier? ❤️
One of my favorites I never tire of watching.

I love how the movie doesn't end with The End but *AMEN*
What an amazing movie, I first saw this as a young boy when it first came out. I have watched it maybe a hundred times in the following decades. This is the most difficult good bye scene in any movie I have seen. The women in that room had suffered so much in Europe at the hands of fanatics, and the departure of Homer Smith brings out an expression of the woeful loneliness and loss for Mother Maria’s life. They are so pronounced it is almost impossible not to tear up. Almost 60 years and over a hundred times, it still saddens me to the core.

The scene makes this cynical grown man cry every time. I also love the obvious joy on the face of Anne Bancroft in giving the historic Oscar to the great Sidney Poitier. RIP
When she relises he is leaving for ever. Broke my heart but he was a nomad and would touch a lot of peoples lives on his way. We all do no matter what job we do. People remember us and we them. When he left and drove off to his new life adventures with out them, Dammm. Life goes on and sometimes ends.
He was equally brilliant in the Heat of the night
An amazing human being. He will always live on in my heart
It is a wonderful movie Sidney and the cast did an excellent job. One of the most moving movie ever . love this movie . 🎥.

This and The Defiant Ones were probably his two best performances.

A Raisin In The Sun, To Sir With Love, and In The Heat of the Night > these. Those were some borderline Magical Negro performances. I even liked his turn with the late Elizabeth Hartman in A Patch of Blue more.
I saw most of his films and read his biography,I also heard that he has visited my country.A gentle Saul,a magnificent actor,a great input to our civilization...I always remember him.

Sidney Poitier was the first Black man to win the Academy Award for Best Actor. It was not until 2001 that another Black man would win Best Actor again (Denzel Washington in Training Day).

Too bad Will Smith ruined his own reputation! He was very low class, while Chris Rock was a true professional. He proved by his behavior that he’s not worthy to walk Sidney or Denzel’s footsteps.

A wonderful movie from an era of similarly crafted movies. Among them: A Patch Of Blue, 12 Angry Men, The Miracle Worker, A Thousand Clowns and I'll include a non black and white film, They Might Be Giants. We are very fortunate that Sydney Poitier helped society usher in better relations between people in the middle of the 20th century. Intelligence and dignity was his gift to us all.

Sidney Poitier ist für mich der hübscheste u. schönster Schwarzer . Außerdem ein sehr guter Schauspieler .
God never appears himself to fillful the wishes of those worthy of his attention,he always sends agents.Homer Smith was one of them. And he knew it.
Por favor, en español y completa, muchas gracias

This was a momentous moment in the American film industry's history. Another Black man would not win the Oscar for Best Performance By An Actor in A Leading Role until 2002, when Denzel Washington won (Halle Berry won the same year, making the Oscars that year another significant "first": both Performance by an Actor and Actress in Leading Roles were Black).
Is it a coincidence that after 35 years in the same desert five monks from Mt Athos, Greece built St Anthony monastery?
The only reason didn't give this a thumbs up is because didn't want to be number 666 hate that number of the beast but enjoyed the video.
Just acting a part as in all his films In real life one has to be oneself!

I think why "Lillies of the Field " is such an excellent film is because of the unity to get something done, but ultimately because of the centrality of Jesus Christ through and in it all.
This is RESURRECTION DAY time of year 2022! I was atheist but GOD saved me on CHRISTMAS EVE in 1972! AMEN! I prayed "FATHER touch me in the name of JESUS!" I had been weeping and reading a Gideon King James Authorized Version New Testament for TWO WHOLE DAYS as I prayed wrongfully. GOD'S WORD washed my filthy, atheistic spirit. And when I had forgiven EVERYBODY and was cleansed, JESUS led me to John 16:24 where He taught me how to pray in HIS name! So THEN when I prayed correctly, PAPA GOD immediately sent HOLY GHOST gently and tenderly down into my heart! GLORY! I woke up CHRISTMAS MORNING, BORN AGAIN! HALLELUJAH! 🙏🙌💞💃 2022 is my 50th YEAR living HOLY! ALL PRAISE, HONOR AND GLORY BE UNTO THE LIVING LORD JESUS! 💓💓💓 JESUS IS RETURNING FOR US SOON! I'M EXCITED! 🙏🙌🙌👏👏👏💃💃

I'm in LOVE with JESUS! I fell in love with Him BEFORE HOLY GHOST came into my heart! JESUS was so kind, and sweet but they CRUCIFIED HIM! As I read I questioned WHY HE had to die! In my spirit I heard, YOU'RE going to have to love prostitutes, winos and junkies, enough to die for THEM just like JESUS died for YOU! DIED for ME? THAT got me reading the rest of the gospels to see if there would be a HAPPY ENDING for my Sweet JESUS. But no. They killed Him every time and I was so heart broken. I didn't UNDERSTAND WHY JESUS had to DIE for ME. Now I know He was making a way for us to be free from sin so we wouldn't end up in the lake of fire! "And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire." Revelation 20:15! JESUS saved me from HELL and ETERNAL damnation by securing my name in His Book of Life! GLORY! HIS BLOOD will NOT suffer loss! ALLELUIA! 🙏🙌💞👏
Taken from scripture Consider the lilies of the field They toil not spin not Obviously a parable about people Dressing up in gaudy clothes!
Hnnnmmm
Everyone needs salvation here are the words of salvation please forgive me jesus im a sinner come into my heart and save me from my sin I no that you are the savior and I no that you died for me on calvary and I no that God raise you from the dead and you are alive and I thankyou for your salvation in Jesus holy name amen and its important to always ask for forgiveness every night 🌙
