Sidemount / Tech Diving Skills 13 - How To Stage & Re-Stage Decompression Gas - Dark Horizon Diving

Sidemount and technical diving skills. This video shows you how to stage and re-stage a decompression gas cylinder in sidemount configuration. It's demonstrated in two different ways: (1) starting and ending from the top tank's top clip and (2) starting and ending from the bottom clip.
As always with Sidemount, there are plenty of options within the configuration, so what your instructor shows you may be different from these videos. For example, I cross the bottom clips of my bottom gas and deco tanks, so both hold each other in place, even as they become lighter throughout the dive. With three aluminium tanks as shown in the video (2 x bottom gas - one each on the left and the right - and 1 x deco gas on the left), the bottom clips of the tanks on the left are crossed and will not be moved throughout the dive. The bottom gas tank on the right, on the other hand, will be moved along the belt of the diver's harness as it becomes lighter.

Sorry that this is the last video for the moment. Looking forward to see what you'll cover next! Maybe some hints and tips (without giving away secrets :-)) for novice tech divers?

How can the cylinder can be perpendicular? It’s empty? I try this and it’s sit flat down.

Hi there, thanks for your comment! The cylinder position depends on the gas inside and the quantity. Nitrox 50 is a heavy gas, but aluminium tanks tend to sit perpendicular as soon as they are only partially full, even at 150 bar. A trimix like 50/15 will be lighter even if the tank is full. Now, we filmed these videos in early 2020, so I can't remember what the pressure was exactly in the video but definitely not as much as 200 bar.
