The year was 1911. Or maybe 1912. Either way, it was a bleary afternoon in the growing boomtown of Electra in Wichita Falls, Texas. A powerful young man with a sauntering gait, bordering on a limp, lumbered into the only café in town, joined by his newly acquainted boss. He was looking for a warm meal after a hard day. It was his first day in Electra, and his first day on the job as a mule driver, hired just that same morning after helping dig out a buggy. He’d come to Electra for oil money, but mule money would have to do for now.
