Sicario is a masterpiece, no heroic nonsense, no we are good versus evil, no ridiculous patriotism, no stupid cool sayings, no unrealistic heroine and no happy ending. Sicario shows us a war that cannot be won.

I don't agree there are not good guys and bad guys, its just that the film takes a more relativistic method that encompasses the gray. Kate is a "good guy" but she is ignorant of truth and thus fails. Alejandro Gillick is a good guy in outcome, but not in action, he commits evil but I would not call him evil like I would Hitler for example. the cartel boss is a bad guy doing a good thing (eating with his family), but hes an evil man. Good and evil are very complicated when actually being implemented in personal contexts of life events instead of moral YES NO logic, but they do not cease to be, unless your a total moral relativist but then you would never bring up good or evil, as people who truly imbibe that idea understand that there is only power, what can be and can not be done.

Kate is NOT the good guy, which is literally the point of the movie. She’s a saboteur, and her own self-righteousness blinds her to the truth and puts the REAL good guys in dangerous situations. She’s not ignorant, she’s a stubborn child - hence his remark when he says “You look like my daughter”.

The fact that he held a gun to her head made her confront the fact that all of her morals were just an illusion. Something she carried in her heart just as long as she was in a position to lie to herself. The gun is real. The gun is right now. The fact that he delivers these lines emotionlessly means that there is no one watching, no one will care that she made the "right choice" later. It's just whatever she can live with.

@@thecluelesstravellers3490 I can draw two conclusion from your comment. One you are a sarcastic di^k who likes to belittle and demean people cos it makes you feel big, when you are anything but. Two you feel insecure about a comment on the internet cos it didn't occur to you as a possibility, so to make yourself feel better, you are rude and insulting, cos it's your default. Either way you should grow up, take a long hard look at yourself and be better.
Some missed the point: He simply gave her justification - she had to sign the paper at gunpoint.
Masterpiece, so good and so true at the same time
he looks down and reads the signature: "Donald Duck"
never let him even begin talking about any extended warranties
I mean, in the beginning, when Matt asked her - "Are you married? Do you have children?" Thats when she should have seen the big red light.
He plays good guy/bad guy back and forth several times. Keeping her in a state of confusion and anxiety. This is a tactic of an interrogator, and I remember being trained to do this. 1. Says she reminds him of his daughter. Humanizing himself and pushing her toward a state of comfort. 2. Asking her to sign the paper, and then tossing the pen. Tossing to the pen was pulling her back from comfort, showing her that he knew she would sign it regardless of her not wanting to, which gives the expectation that she will be forced. He orders her to sign it after she refuses. He’s still pushing her out of comfort. 3. He says “it’s okay”, pushing her back into a comfort zone. 4. He puts a gun to her head and tells her she will be committing suicide. Obviously pushing her back out of a comfort zone. 5. The phrase “come on” is not aggressive. Again, pulling her back slightly into a comfort zone. That yo-yo effect with a guy like that is enough to crush her will in less than two minutes.

Not sure if the did it intentionally, but the slide of that gun couldn’t have been stripped off the frame like that without the striker being in the uncocked position. What that means for anyone who doesn’t know is that the striker in the gun was in the uncocked state which can only be done on that type of gun by pulling the trigger. Basically it means the gun didn’t even have a round in the chamber and was rendered completely inert. It could be an error in production of the film, but I don’t really think it was. I think it was a more subtle thing they did. He took the round out of the chamber, dry fired the gun, and then just stuck the loaded mag back in. He knew she would sign it under threat of death.

I don't know anything about guns, really, but I think you are correct in assuming this was an intentional detail. The cut when the gun is being disassembled, the camera is looking at it, and it doesn't look at Alejandro's face until he's done disassembling the gun, which means it's something that was intended to be seen, and specially because we are zoomed into it, rather than having a bigger picture. Important moments in movies are usually accompanied by gradual zoom ins of the camera between cuts.

There are numerous points in this movie, many accurate actually, but the most significant one is that it’s basically impossible to defeat an evil that doesn’t follow any rules, by following rules. The scene is the culmination of the central question of the whole film: At what point does your faith in civilization break? It's saying that civilization fundamentally is a luxury. And BTW before all you misguided critters in the comment section go "psychopathy is a wonderful thing"; that's a luxury you want. If not for yourself, then at least for all those capable of faith, hope or joy. If you can't have it, at least afford it to someone else. It might actually provide you with the light and meaning that you seek. Alejandro's reality is completely dark. Vengeance is the only thing that drives him. He's walking the path to Meifumado. The road to hell.

Such a brutal , inevitable conclusion. Blunt’s character is our soul, trying to understand this drug war, with its incredibly shrouded and convoluted back story, it’s revenge and power struggles between Colombian and Mexican gangs, the street soldiers (her partner who gets killed in the first scene, the Mexican police officer who leaves his son never to return, the cartel hit men who die in the border shootout). Blunt is excellent as an idealistic, legal, “Good-guy” who is lost in the shadows of Alejandro’s vendetta. It’s why most 🇺🇸 and European citizens turn away from the lives lost when they snort their coke or do their meth. We just don’t want to know
