Every performance of this second symphony has its own character, so also this under Herbert Blomstedt. This year 2023 he will become 96 years old, still enlightening our lives with wonderful performances, like this one.
Da möchte man garnicht aufhören mit zuhören, tolle Musik, super Orchester

Herzlichen Dank!
Herbert is still going strong, what an inspiration to all musicians out there! One can only wish to have the same stamina and energy at his age
Herbert Blomstedt durfte vor wenigen Tagen seinen 90. Geburtstag begehen!
Absolutely the greatest conductor of Sibelius. I've never seen how he does it until now. Remarkable. Thank you!

thank you love Blomstedt!!
Sibelius No. 2 is one of my all time favorites. As usual, superb orchestra and conductor. The old symphony hall looked cramped. I wish I could hear it again in the new spacious, splendid home. I've just googled Mr. Blomstedt to find out he was born in 1927, one year before QE-II who I admire greatly. I wish them both good health and (mental) agility until time comes.
I really respect the enormous talent of this wonderful Swedish Kapellmeister, the energy and feelings conveyed to great orchestras around the world. My respect, admiration and love Herr Blomstedt.

As always Herbert comes through with great leadership. The orchestra is lucky to have him and come up to his expectations!

He is a rare gift.
The conductor feels this music in his soul... no need for a score to read. This is a brilliant performance. Thank you for sharing it with us. I'm in the early stages of a love affair with Sibelius.

Love the fact that he does not need the notes. A great conductor does not in a such a standard piece of music like this

Thanks for sharing - we're glad you enjoyed our recording!
Great performance of this magnificent masterpiece. Bloomstedt is the best Sibelius interpreter nowdays. Long life for the maestro. Bravo 👏

Herbert lived a sort while with his parents in Southern Finland just before Soviet Union attacked Finland. As to Sibelius interpreters I refer to Oramo's recent recordings of all the symphomies with Kungliga Filharmonin. On the orchestra's website you'll find also the violin concerto with Lisa Batiashvili as soloist (magnificent performance).
Wow, what a superb performance! And great orchestra.
How great ,wonderful &Beautiful symphony!!Mastro ,good job!
sehr schön
Maestro Blomstedt and the NDR work seamlessly to weave this piece into a wonderful presentation! I especially appreciate the way they transition the dynamics smoothly, slow or quickly as required, but always fluid...like the conductors hands. Feels like a surging ocean of sound that the composer wanted to create.
Brilliant best I’ve heard
Google translation: The Second Symphony is probably the most played by the Finn Jean Sibelius. 2016 leads conductor Herbert Blomstedt on the NDR Elbe Philharmonic Orchestra in the Laeiszhalle, Hamburg. An excellent performance..!
Una obra inspirada; una interpretación rigurosa e irreprochable.

Like Boulez Herbert conducts without a baton. At age 96 he is an inspiration to all budding conducters . Of Swedish background the Finland composer Sibelius is right up his alley. Long live Herbert Blomstedt
Blomstedt is unbelievably good ... just UNBELIEVABLY GOOD ...!!!!

Einfach atemberaubend!

I love this conductor, and since everybody calls him by his first name (a little familiar, don't you think?) Herbert conducts this symphony very well.

As a Swede it is not so uncommon to use the first name. I am Anders.😊
I can see Clara playing the fute. Before she joined Frankfurt, huh? How I love this woman and her playing!!!

Well, according to her vita Salamanca born Clara Andrada de la Calle has been solo-flutist with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra since 2005, and plays as a guest with orchestras like the NDR Elbphilly, the LSO and London Philharmonic, and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe. If absent from Frankfurt, she is mostly substituted by Sebastian Wittiber. To me it was a nice surprise, too, to discover her sitting next to Mr. Oboe, Paulus van der Merwe, thus contributing to the marvellous NDR woodwind sounds in this triumphant performance of Sibelius 2.
Life!!!!

Blomstedt lets the timpanist off lightly in that amazing final few bars - doesn't roll through the cords a in other interpretations
Blase, unappreciative audience gives perfunctory applause to a great performance. Shame on them!!! BRAVO, Blomstedt!
Peculiar music
(00:01) I. Allegretto (10:16) II. Tempo andante, ma rubato - Andante sostenuto - Allegro - Andante (24:45) III. Vivacissimo - Lento e soave - Tempo primo - Lento e soave - Largamente (30:34) IV. Finale. Allegro moderato
Fun fact : Sibelius had a daughter called Heidi. She married the architect Aulis Blomstedt - but apparently no relation to Herbert.

2024!
The concertmaster is Gus Johnson's dad, I'm pretty sure...
the younger Sibelius' blood must have been excessively hot when composing those closing bars of the finale.
B
Brahms, sinfonia 1
Too pedantic; no fantasy in this performance.
