Shutting Down Poachers in The Gambia

Our patrols in The Gambia kick off with a bang.
Within a week of starting our newest campaign against illegal fishing in African waters, we had 3 arrests.
Hear from Captain Peter Hammarstedt as he introduces ‘Operation Gambian Coastal Defense’ - our newest partnership in saving African Marine Wildlife.

The Sam looks intimidating out there. Love the aft mast and (new?) superstructure. I hope these poachers feel intimidated when Sea Shepherd and Gambia are coming for them. Shout out to Peter Hammarstedt. Can everyone who isn't donating at all please throw $3 a month to Sea Shepherd and participate in these direct action campaigns? HELP!

Great work! I have seen recently the documentary on Netflix about overfishing and I was crying at the end 😭 and it was eye opening. I personally decided that I want to help and make people more aware of it but I just don't know what I can do I feel anger and frustration, maybe can you give me tips what I can do to that my local community will be more aware of the huge problem. I also wanted to ask if you catch pouchers what happens to them? I hope they get a huge bill and that the boat ist confiscated and the ticket home they have to pay out of they own pocket, i think such punishment is suiting poachers. Thank you for your hard and dangerous work ❤️

i think the deployment of the ocean warrior helped to stop the whalers and from what I can tell, if the whalers go down south, sea shepard will scramble (again) to intercept

  • @isaiahlaitinen

Japan has admitted their whaling is commercial, which means they have pulled out of the IWC and can no longer whale in Antarctica. They are focusing on whaling in their waters, which has been going on since 1987. Even there, the will to whale is dying.

I know it sounds crasy but thy not get some 300 to 350 ft ship with a decent range, cut the superstructure of it and put a big flat deck of it and make an aircraft carrier. You could equip it with say 4 or 5 folding wing bush planes (ex:kitfox model 7 sti or justaircraft highlander) and maybe 2 helicopters.Imagine a sort of modern hms audacity.

Im disappointed to sea how many japanese whaler supporters there are on other sea shepherd related videos. They only have nasty things to say about the women on board or the fact you guys exist to help fight for our oceans. I ve lost faith in humanity reading the comments on other videos. People like you however, are the only reason I pull through with hope

Instead of going to poor African countries, do it in your native countries where law enforcement welcomes your assistance. Doing this in poor African countries is like just entertainment purpose, which your organization is becoming more like this just only for TV viewers.

Actually, these countries greatly welcome our assistance as many of them have a serious problem with foreign trawlers. If you think we do this for the ratings, then you should take a look again, because there are many more things that are much more dramatic that we could be doing, but that just simply don't get the same results for the oceans :)
