haha, I love it! Thanks for the deathmetal review. I do think the low cut on the sm7b is too aggressive though for spoken word but I understand it's helpful for very deep voices. I think for most people a flat setting or presence boost create a better sound for spoken word. Imo.

How do you go about de-essing? Your recordings with Cattle Decapitation always have amazing high end on the vocals without any nasty essing. Before comp, after comp, active EQ, old school de-esser, no matter what I try, I can't get my results to match yours. Do you do multiple stages of de-essing?

Let me first say, thank you so much for covering these 3 mics last year. I'm in the market for a new mic as I recently made the leap to the GoXLR for my streaming set up and my Blue Yeti is just not cutting it anymore. Kind of sad as it's been a great USB mic for almost 3 yrs. The SM7B was always on my list when I would make the leap to a dynamic XLR mic but the $400 price tag for just "streaming" and occasional podcast recording seemed a bit much. With the introduction of the other 2 mics, it's making it real tough to pull the trigger on the SM7B simply to due to fact that I can EQ the PodMic or ProCaster to get really really close to the Shure and still have money left over for beer. This review really was what I was looking for. Ok. Now that that's out of the way, I FOOKING LOVE the lyrics to your vocal singing portion! Lmao! It was fantastic to hear it in metal! Thank you. Great stuff Dave.

I still think the sm7b sounds the best and, like you said, natural. The podmic had a little more enunciation on the s hisses and Slightly more breathy that I didn'tcare for, but not bad. Pro caster seems competitive with the sm7b. Overall great mics for the price.

I always thought the SM7B was the only real deal and was saddened because I never had money for that mic AND a Cloudlifter or a Triton Audio FetHead. but after seeing this shootout I guess the PodMic might be an awesome alternative. also: awesome vocal performance! thanks for the video!

My ear is not refined enough to be able to distinguish between them in a death metal vocals setting, but I noticed a clear difference in the speech example. The Rode mics had a certain 'podcasty' characteristic that I have noticed in their shotgun mics as well (and every Rode mic I've heard). I guess what I'm saying is that I'm not a fan of the Rode sound, yet so many people are. I imagine for someone who knows what they're doing, can get the sound they want from any of these in editing, but for those without much audio knowledge such as myself, these kinds of comparison videos are quite helpful. So, thank you! Great work on the vocals btw!

Procaster…. I do voice only. The SM7B and the Procaster sounded almost identical to me on my BD DT770 cans and here in Australia the SM7B is over AUD $800 and the Procaster is AUD $225. The subtle differences are not worth $600…. So winner winner Procaster!

Yeah, i don't know I really couldn't tell the difference; maybe if you sang "Somewhere over the Rainbow" next time. 😂

@@kobinsadvance The RODE microphones are the cheaper alternatives. Depending on your use I feel like the RODE microphones can sound very similar and in many cases the differences in the end would be negligible.

I think I'm going with SM7B. Just sound better to me. Plus my audience has been listening to a blue yeti for a while, I think they deserve the best.
