    It’s a much better product than the original. Wish they would’ve skipped the Reverb and added a De-Esser instead. Bit of a miss for the target audience.

    Great comment. I don’t care about these mics at all. But if it had a de-esser, it might make for a nice travel solution. Minus the price point of course. Still worth just tossing a 2i2 and an sm58 in my opinion.

I’m accepting pre-orders for the next 45ish days (60 total) and hopefully hitting my minimum order target or get fairly close to it. At that time I’ll send the order to manufacturing and they should ship 6 total 8 weeks after that. We are assuming mid October. 21:20 One thing you missed when making setting adjustments on the original MV7 - there are actually two tabs - Auto Level and Manual. Selecting "manual" should give you access to all the other mic settings, similarly to how it was on the previous ShurePlus Motiv app.

    Great review, as always Tom! Like you, I still prefer the sound of the first version of the Mv7. I want to leave a warning for those who, like me, have the first version of the Mv7: the last time I tried to update the Shure Plus MOTIV, I received a message saying that they will stop updating the software and are encouraging people to use the new Shure Motiv Mix. It turns out that when using the Motiv Mix with the first version of the Mv7, it does not enable any of the features such as compressor, limiter, among others. Only if you have the new Mv7 Plus. Of course I will continue using the Plus Motiv. Shure should support it for a while longer, after all, it has not even been 5 years since the launch of the first Mv7. Greetings, Tom!

    MV7 is really great because personally I have really nice Schiit audio dac and amp combo, I have really no plan on downgrading to audio interface, or get more stuff on the table. Ultimately, using USB just was least hassle, and also saved me a lot of money. That said, if I was serious KZreadr or some other kind of media producer, I would get SM7B. But for my purposes of gaming and work, there's no reason to sacrifice my premium audio, convenience and desk space.

    The MV7+ is looking like a nice update. I'm hoping that Shure goes ahead and updates the MV51, which is a USB-only condenser mic with an awesome retro design, with USB-C connectivity. It's still my favorite USB-only mic, but the micro USB connection is too outdated, and it doesn't work with Shure's latest software.

    I got the MV7+ a few weeks ago, but I returned it because (at least to me) it sounded almost indistinguishable from my $25 Behringer XM8500. You should check it out sometime if you haven’t already, it’s a really good value microphone. I did end up getting an SM7B to replace my XM8500 though, but I could’ve easily continued using the XM8500 with no issues.

    I bought the MV7+ and it was pretty good for its price. However, I returned it after I found that it was picking up other background noise, and it essentially had to be in the video frame. With Tom's other videos, I concluded that what I wanted was a shotgun mic, and got a RØDE VideoMic NTG instead.

  • @tombuck

    @tombuck

    Yeah, if you need something boomed out of frame a mic like the NTG is a great choice. The MV7+ and similar dynamic mics work best about 6-12 inches from the speaker 👍

  • @EmDzei
    @EmDzei25 күн бұрын

    What kind of background noise was there in this microphone you tested? How much gain did it need? I'm asking this because I bought a Sennheiser Profile and it had really loud background noise and it needs maximum gain to pick up sound at all. I immediately returned it. I wonder a little why you recommend it.

  • @tombuck

    @tombuck

    25 күн бұрын

    I love the Profile! The important thing to remember is that your computer's input gain needs to be set properly. It's usually buried in the sound settings, and if it's too low, then it won't matter if a mic's gain is maxed out. As for background noise, the Profile is a condenser and the MV7 is dynamic, so in general a dynamic mic will pick up less noise.

  • @tombuck

    I definitely don't think that's normal. Double check that the firmware is up to date. If it is, then double check your computer's input levels and the mic's level in the Motiv software. If you're STILL having problems after that, then I'd read out to Shure's support for some help.

    I can attest to the original MV7 micro USB port breaking...... torn traces, not repairable. Fortunately I normally use the MV7 via XLR into a MixPre-3ii recorder / interface so it has not been catastrophic with the broken USB. I did like being able to monitor my own audio without latency by plugging my headset directly into the MV7 headphone jack and still be able to hear desktop audio. Glad to see they upgraded the USB port to USB-C for the new model.

    That was such a huge gripe for me. It was very easy to put tension on that port and then have it become unreliable. For whatever reason, that doesn't seem to happen with USB C.

    From what I know, the electronics just don't work via XLR in a way that can do this. I was surprised by the Lewitt Ray though because it can do A LOT via XLR, but there must still be some sort of difference.

    Is there any reason to get the mv7+ over an mv7x with a sm7b or an mv7+ windscreen? mv7+ cost about 268 euro and the mv7x only costs 161 euros (do need an interface but seems better to have an interface for that 100 euro difference).
