Yes that's the job of a duelist, but when it comes to ranked specially low elo from diamond to below, trading kills is rare, spacing is horrible, and like shroud says, you are by yourself most of the time, sometimes iniatator don't flash or drone, or smokes dont smokes.

that's what happens when your team is competent. if they're not, then you do have to get kills, and duelists tend to have skills that benefit themselves instead of the team, so it's better for 1v5ing

Problem is, your team won't care, unless it's coordinated teamplay. From iron 1 to radiant 1, your teammates will be like "0-10 jett is definitely trolling" even if you create the best space possible and setup teammates for multiple kills via trading

I would never flame a duelist who goes in and dies. But i really hate the duelists (especially Reyna players) who just don't do anything on an exec and I need to go in first as Viper. Like at least use your blind so I can go in. I hate Reyna with passion - the worst designed agent in the game.

​@@NotAtlantis i wouldn't say it fits him better, as he has an aggressive play style that is suited more for mindless killing, which are duelists. playing omen counteracted his old playstyle and made him more refined as a player, which made him improve on gamesense and creativity, which removed his "all aim no brain" stigma. he's more like a flex role now, a hybrid of controller and duelist.

You’re supposed to “split the site.” You go deep and clear back site as a distraction so your team can come in and clear close angles. Look at every duelist’s kit. It allows them to go deep. Jet dash, Yoru TP, Neon wall/slide, phoenix flash and wall, iso wall, raze packs, etc… you’re supposed to die as a distraction. The push happens within 1 second and allows for easier takes. it’s why Reyna isn’t a good duelist, but she’s a great agent for flanks. Any agent can aim duel a site entry in disadvantageous situations.

Duelists get more gunfights, first bloods, which means higher ACS. That doesn't mean duelists have to be the best aimers, though. I'd say sentinels should be the best aimers (not just chamber) cause you gotta shoot the raze flying at you at 200 mph in order to hold onto site

No it isn’t? Initiator help by reconning site to find enemy positions and using abilities to force enemies to play at a disadvantage. Controllers help by smoking off key points and denying enemy info. Sentinels help to keep controlled area through things like walling off an enemy or by placing tripwires to slow an enemy push. But all of these are meaning less without someone to push through all of this and clear the area out. That is a duelist. Take space, getting kills is ideal as it can allow your team 1: a player advantage and 2:the area they previously held is now clear for your team to use. Now that’s why lurking doesn’t work as a duelist, it forces your team to not have good entry potential so they get stuck. Your sentinel has no space to hold. Your initiators abilities go to waste as there is no one who can use it properly. Controllers splitting up the site does nothing. Duelist a need to entry, even if it’s to jett dash in and die immediately. You forced the enemy to be uncomfortable, they aren’t ready for a new fight. And they now have the positions of the enemies. Things like a kj grenade where they were or brimstone fire can help trade them. And with that you have cleared out site for your team. Duelist should try to fight the enemy where possible, that is what their kit is designed for. But even if you don’t find an enemy you should still entry. Not lurk for free kills, if anything something like a cypher should lurk. Ideally a chamber or so. Lurking as Phoenix or jett isn’t acceptable. Yoru can be understandable, as his tp csn immediately get you back. But it still shouldn’t be used unless it’s a last resort

Well, if your Initiator is dead or if they have no more util is when finding enemies and taking engagements is your job. But yes.

Common misconception is the idea of if you playing duelist you should be top fragging or farm kills , if not then youre bad duelist. The amount of kills you have doesn't fully determine how good you're playing your role. You can be bottom frag and still be a good duelist the way you play with and for your team and vice versa.

This is true. But you can never win the argument because 9/10 times they'll talk smack and blame the duelist if they're not top frag. That's just the unfortunate toxicity of these games.

When I started playing Valorant I assumed it would be very similar to csgo… which yeah sorta but my experience of the two games are very different. I was very bad at csgo so I assumed I would be at Val too, therefore I chose a sentinel character… err, i don’t remember name, the German one. But I actually had a good time playing Val, idk why I’m okay at Val but terrible at csgo but that’s just how it is for me. I still play sentinels but I’d like to think I’m getting better

Someone told me in ranked "dude how did you die on every single round?", was playing neon and pushing site for said dude who was just too scared to push site. I'm even top frag, so I don't what's his issue. Same dude also tells me "you only can only kill on flanks" like flanking is illegal for some reason.

if you openned site or another important area (like mid ascent), i feel like duelist should hold flank or flank enemy while team sets for exec. Other than that, if the team is still tucked in this powerful position, you shoud just go into a terrible position to help them get ground

Playing duelist requires a lot of trust on your teammates to provide you information on attack and work off of whatever util they can provide, so in a sense it can be the most rage inducing roles

Whenever my friends and I play Valorant the duelist always ends up with 2 roles: - Spearheading the entry into site. - Causing a distraction and keeping the enemies anxious by flanking them while the team tries to enter site.

i would argue, that being in a position of extreme pressure would help you to create an enviroment, for your team, to accomplish things which would never ever have been possible without the knowledge you gained in the first place !

They either do that, or (preferably) enter onto sight (and then die). And which just depends on the character. For example, Jett has her smokes and dash to break up and push onto the sight for the rest of the team to enter and maybe get a pick or two before dying. Reyna is the type described, she can take 1v1’s and serve herself; get a few picks, die, repeat. The entry is typically better because it plays for the team more, which is why you see it in high level competitive play a lot more than the 1v1/first contact guys.

I’ve got played with bottom frags Jett’s that did there job entering site that were so much more useful than a top frag lurking Reyna that doesn’t get the impact kills to actually win rounds.

I would say more so to aggressively open up space for your team to then occupy and also to give whatever info you get. And if you frag out and make it easier for your team, that’s even better.

u cannot tell that to my teammate , I enter site , sometimes I get a kill sometimes i don't. but when I don't get the kill. I saw my team just rotating , not getting into site... Duelist kills = go after. duelist dies = rotate

It is like in CS. Basically there are 4 roles: Entry Fragger(Duelist in Valo), Support(Initiator/Smokes), Lurker(Flex but mostly Sentinels)and AWPer(usually Jett,Chamber or their best awper) but everyone can be an entry, support, lurker or awper so it is kinda determined when you start the game Putting a very confident player with insane aim as the main entry fragger is usual strategy. Getting that first vital entry kill is very important and it usually determines whether they will either fail or succeed on taking the site. If entry manages to kill the first contact and survives, then it is a huge win. If entry died but traded then the entry did their job properly. If Entry died and the team failed to trade you, then you either didn't do your job properly or your support really sucked at supporting/trading

Thats why in diamond and below a good entry should try to entry for 2-3 rounds and if it doesnt work out because valorant players are terrible at CS, he should bait his team for the rest of the game if he wants to have a chance of carrying his team to victory

It made me feel the same. I previous Siege player and one thing need to know is every character can kill you with their gun and really fast. There no such thing call your character not match for kill enemy or good at kill enemy, just a small pistol could 3 shot and die. Some character still effect how easy they can kill but most the time it not different. And when I come to valorant I also kind feel the same as some class seem more good for other class like Kayo can play aggressive and Iso someone also said he not like duelist class.

Do you even play duelist ? The one entering is the one in awkward position, he is literaly surrounded by threaths It can be behind you, on the side, or in front of you Plus, in my experience, I will rarely kill blinded ennemies in attack People plays near cover, if they get flashed, they will just fall back Which is fine, cause they are no longer holding you But you won't reach them before they are not longer blinded, unless you play phénix and are the one flashing

I think the two roles that benefit the most from raw aim are duelists and flash initiators though. You get the most fights, therefore benefit the most from good aim. Aim isn't the deciding factor though - you should pick what role you play based on the activities you enjoy the most and how you plan to impact the game, then practice your aim because *everyone* needs to aim sometimes.

This is like being an Entry Fragger in CS. Your job is not to get kills, your job is to run in there and hopefully get a kill.

Yeah I kinda a agree with the whole die part. This is where Valorant's own description of a duelist confuses me a bit. "Duelists are self-sufficient fraggers who their team expects, through abilities and skills, to get high frags and seek out engagements first." Like they are supposed to be high fragging entry players. But then like wtf is an initiator? Aren't they the entry? THESE ROLES MAKE NO SENSE.

I really think it's the role's name that gives people a misconception about what their actual job is. People see "Duelist" and think "Oh. Duelist, duels, duel, 1v1. I need to be top frag." I feel like they should be the actual Initiator role and the current Initiators should be Breacher or something.

Initiators are the true supports, they need to flash for everyone, they need to play their util well to provide value to their team, they usually arent able to utilize their own util as well as popping em for others. But i see why riot name them initiators as you always want to flash or gather intel before allowing your jett or raze dash out.

Most duelist are braindead but duelist is not a braindead role. Having a talkative duelist is always a blessing. Duelist please com more and provide your ideas for execution or when you want to take control of an area. Winning a lot of games when my duelist is actually using mic.

as long as my duelist uses my teams util when we push to site im fine. just get the team to site and hopefully take some picks or a good trade.

As a washed silver jett player, im glad someone said it, entering is so fun, the most important thing is that your team is going with the entry tho.
