We need Wray More of Wray 😉
I've been watching your shrinking disc methods and have been trying them out with pretty good results. One thing I'd like to see is how you approach repairing dents in flat panels...think Jeep bodies. Getting it flat again seems to be challenging.
Always great to see a new video .

Glad you enjoyed it
I remember seeing those discs for sale through Eastwood Co. catalogues 30+ years ago, No internet then. They always had the newest tools available. I never bought one but always wondered if the actually worked.

In past shrinking disc videos I mentioned that the original shrinking discs were developed by Scott Knight, he sold the shrinking discs for several years in the early 80s, he then sold the business to Ken Sakamoto who previously worked with him. Ken still sells the fluted original style shrinking discs. I purchased two 9" fluted/ruffled shrinking discs from Scott Knight in 1985, as they wore out the ruffles wore down to a smooth condition. I added the safe edge and made my discs flat, smooth with no ruffles, I call them the smooth and safe edge discs. I am the inventor of the smaller 5" dia. shrinking discs. Shrinking discs allow you total control of any automotive sheet metal surface. If Eastwood sold them they got them from Scott or Ken or a copycat. They are a marketing firm not a product production firm. We make our shrinking discs in our shop, and we make them from thicker stainless steel. They will last a long time.

@@proshaper Yes know I Eastwood is just a marketing Co. Reseller I guess they would call it. Kinda like Amazon does, give someones product a bigger audience, for a cut of course. Back in the day if you wanted to learn autobody work and weren't somehow connected there wasn't a lot of info. Car magazines was about it. Librarys had little, some books stores maybe a little more. The Eastwood catalogue was as good as it got for new and interesting tools. I finally took a pre-apprentice cource in 1988. But even then true body work, metal shipping was on its way out. MIG welders were still fairly new and plasma arc was brand new. Custom painting was big then, the van craze was in full swing. Murals, candys pearls flip flops and big metal flake were hot. But to find someone to teach the old skills was difficult at best. Shrinking was like a black art, oddly back then some of the skills like shrinking were closely guarded secrets. The young up and comers have no idea how lucky they are today, KZread is an incredible resource for those that want to learn.
Great video.

Thanks!
I bought a shrinking disk from Wray years ago, but I can't rest it flat because the Grinder's center nut protrudes out and damages the metal. Is the disk in the video a different version?

On my website www.proshaper.com I have pictures showing how to properly mount the shrinking disc. I also have at least 5 shrinking disc videos in my KZread library that show how to correctly mount one of my shrinking discs.
👍
Is shrinking aluminum any different?
