Shrimp Tank Setup [Caridina]

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

This is how I setup all my Caridina shrimp tanks. I really hope this helps anybody who wants to get into a little more advanced shrimp.

    As a kid ( in the everglades ) I always kept a 10 gallon shrimp tank , i had no idea about ph , or any of that however i always used the water they were caught in and plenty of plants they were used to , i just got lucky with that , because they would breed like crazy . ( but these were just wild caught grass shrimp ) And a water change meant walking 2 blocks with a 5 gallon bucket full of canal water.👍

    hey Will that is good to know man , here I don't even bother to do any readings of the water parameters at my place too , I just setup the tank , wait for a week and then introduce the live stock and there has been no instances where any livestock has died the next day or so . I too had a 8 gallon densely planted tank with shrimp and I loved it but now the same tank is just a tank with sand and a few hideouts . I wish even I had the opportunity to catch some live fish from the wild and keep them man , but here in bangalore , India you have to drive a good distance till you find a creak or a stream you know where you can catch fish , shrimp etc . Any way was good knowing how you bred shrimps .

    Spent forever building up my shrimp tank and then got my shrimps in and they were perfect for 2 weeks... then I accidentally used hand sanitizer earlier in the day while shopping then when i went to put in a plant my shrimp are now dying off... most of them just standing there. Not sure what to do to safe the last 10 of them. Not even sure if a water change can safe them at this point.

When I do water change with my tap water (ph7.1) is goes up for a day or so, then decrease to 6... is the cycling process thrive in a so low ph? Trying to create beneficial bacteria with stability... second week nothing changed. I also will need to add amonia because it is 0,25pm with Amazonia light.

    Do you worry about exhausting the substrate faster using non RO water to start with? Is the substrate depth just because it's a planted tank? Was that 30 days worth of spread from the water lettuce from just the two plants you put in in the beginning, or did you add more to start with? Are you running lights 24/7 while cycling?

  • @SooShrimpBreeders

    @SooShrimpBreeders

    I don't worry about exhausting it no. I didn't add anymore water lettuce. The depth I find to better for plants yes and also stability of the tank.

    I have shrimp tank, fish tank with inert substrate but I have never set up the tank with buffered substrate before. When you put buffered substrate and add water in and wait, do you add any ammonia to the tank or substrate would release the ammonia for cycling purpose for 2 months? With fish tank cycling, fish pee and poop got bacteria feeding and tank got cycled but I was wondering if you add anything during the cycling the tank with buffered substrate.Thank you.

    Cycling with tap will just exhaust your soil faster for those 2 months. Better to have correct stable parameters imo. Great video though 👍

    Hello, could you tell me if you added any CO2 for this tank? I also am in the process of setting up a 10 gal rcs tank. It's been running for about a month and a half now. My ph was neutral and kh was low but the gh was insanely high. I wasnt sure if that would affect shrimp in a negative way. I bought amazon swords and they immediately started turning brown and wasted away and my anubias plants that I had had for almost 6 months just completely melted. I can't seem to find the problem. I added a Seachem CO2 booster and Seachem root tabs as well as Seachem excel to the tank. If you could give me some insight I would appreciate it. Thank you! @Soo Shrimp Breeders

    Do shrimps like more wider tanks? I found a nice rimless tank but its more tall than wide 14g. Is that okay? Edit: theyre for neo and crystals. Also, is it okay to cycle with tap water then put RO in when its finally time to put in crystal reds? Thank you!

    if you dont seed the tank will just a piece of fish food start the cycle? I have an API master kit and will test and do water changes as suggested. Complete newbie here so need to know how to start from scratch.. is this correct for blue dream shrimp? I'm really particular and I don't want to make any mistakes.

    If I decide to go with an RO system, can someone help me with a couple of questions? 1.) How many stages is necessary for aquarium water...3-4? Do you have a brand/s you recommend? 2.) What would I have to add back to the RO besides the Bee Shrimp GH+ or Equilibrium? I assume some kind of pH buffer? What do you all typically add so that I don't have to go through another trial and error process.

    Depends entirely on the water going in. 4 Stage Value RO/DI Systems - Perfect for city water that is treated with low amounts of chlorine, or well water with very minimal contaminants. Four stage RODI systems are a great solution if you only connect your RODI system temporarily or have little space to dedicate to storing a RODI system. 5 Stage Premium RO/DI Systems - Our most popular systems handle common impurities found in well water along with most types of city water treated with chlorine including small amounts of chloramines. 6 Stage Deluxe RO/DI Systems - If you are not sure what is in your water, or it contains excessive amounts of TDS or hard to remove contaminants like chloramines, phosphates, nitrates, silicates, etc. The BRS 6 Stage systems are designed to effectively treat any water your home may have prior to using it in your aquarium. The Dual DI stage helps with the hard to remove ions like ammonia, phosphates, silicates, etc. 7 Stage Pro RO/DI Systems - Perfect for almost any water condition, but if you have contaminants that use excessive amounts of DI resin, the 7 Stage RODI system is the ideal choice. It uses cation and anion single bed resins that give you added control and cost savings over traditionally used mixed bed resins. Most water supplies tend to exhaust either the positively or negatively charged resin more quickly than the other, and by separating the standard mixed bed resin into single beds, you are no longer throwing away good deionization resin. Taken from www.bulkreefsupply.com/, where I buy my RO supplies from.

    I only use tap to cycle. Setting up 35 gallon tanks and doing giant water changes uses a lot of salts and ro water. Only reason I used tap was for the cycle.
