For what it’s worth this recipe worked really well for me…. A floor of substrate capped w/ black sand, spattered with dragon stone chips, and a dragon stone feature. I glued moss to the big chips and part of the feature and had a background of stem plants. Frogbit on top. Clean up crew was narites and trumpet snails. Fish were neon tetra and beta. Filtration was two directional sponge filters. First month was plants only, 2nd month was added shrimp, 3rd month added fish. The shrimp bred like crazy. I think good cover and stable water parameters were the key.

I'd disagree on Galaxy rasboras and kubotai rasboras - they're both active and curious species and they're known to suddenly start hunting for smaller shrimps even after a few months in the aquarium.

Great video! I have a planted 75 with driftwood, chollo wood and some larger rocks. There are about 200 blue shrimp, albino pleccos, Galaxy rasboras, ottocinclus, and hillstream loaches. Everything in this tank is breeding on its own except for the ottos. The last fish to reproduce were the loaches. Was somewhat surprised to see Galaxy rasboras fry swimming around as well.

I prefer beef with my shrimp but now set up with 1 neon (survivor), 6 green neon's, 3 nerite snails and 6 blue dreams in a planted 10 gal. Getting back into the hobby after many years (way before KZread). Shrimp and live plants are my 1st experiment. Recovered from the Petco diseases and doing well now. Thank you guys for doing these videos. They have helped me get back into hobby and survive problems. Patients he says!.... Now it's time to think about another big mbuna tank.

Great video! I have a 37 gallon with 13 green kubotai rasboras, 10 harlequin rasboras and 8 otocinclus with a full colony of mixed neocaridina. My rasboras have definitely been good with the shrimp for the most part. They will try to eat a baby if one swims right by them but they never hunt the shrimp. Both times I've seen it the baby shrimp popped away and didn't get eaten. Also both times it was a kubotai trying to eat a baby not a harlequin so i would say harlequins could be on this list. Once my shrimp get about half way grown they can swim all around the schooling rasboras with no issues.

You guys!! I love these videos, all the helpful information, but most of all the gorgeous aquatic views. I think you'd be the perfect people to make some relaxing ASMR videos that focus on water movement and fish activity, with really mellow calming music in the background. I am an occupational therapist and can affirm how effective this is, especially with behavioral children, nonverbal and autistic children, and more! I use these types of soothing videos in conjunction with massage, brushing, rocking, joint compression etc and the kids are ALWAYS very relaxed when we're done. I can calm them, help them focus, or put them to sleep with these techniques. I'd watch it too at night. Have you ever considered this?

I've always had great success with male endlers of all kinds. They are so bright and colorful and they are all over all levels of the tank. Add some bright red cherry shrimp before adding the male endlers, let them get established and BAM, a tank that is bright, rich primary colors and so cool to watch. When money is a little more flexible I want to get some of the itty bitty rasboras. I have the tanks up and running, just waiting on clearing up one last big debt and then the new shrimp and fish are coming. Have a great week guys. 👍❤👍

Spotted Blue-Eye’s, Pseudomugil gertrudae, are a great companion of shrimp. Their max size is 1.5 inches. They have small mouths and narrow throats, so they probably can’t eat even the smallest babies. I haven’t seen my P. gertrudae eat shrimp, and multiple other sources say that these fish pair well with neo’s. The Red-Neon Blue-Eye, Pseudomugil luminatus, are another beautiful fish to pair with shrimp. They’re even smaller than the gertrudae, with a max size of 0.75-1 inch long. Larger Pseudomugil such as the furcatas aren’t good with neon, as the furcatas are larger and likely will try to eat even the adults.

We have entirely native tanks with all native flora and fauna of Missouri species--especially fathead minnows (plain and the rosy red color phase), plus native snails and Mississippi grass shrimp (Palaemonetes kadiakensis). Currently, we are raising shrimplets in another tank and are worried about the larger fatheads eating these babies. Are there any NATIVE nanno fish you would recommend as tank mates for the smaller shrimp? We really want to add some fish to this tank to keep it interesting and balanced.
