The 12471 / 12472 Swaraj Express is a Superfast Express train belonging to Northern Railways Zone that runs between Bandra Terminus and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra in India. It gets a very high priority on its route.
It operates as train number 12471 from Bandra Terminus to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and as train number 12472 in the reverse direction.
It would initially run from Mumbai Central. Later it was transferred to Bandra Terminus.
12471 Bandra Terminus-Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Swaraj Express covers the distance of 2030 kilometres in 33 hours 15 mins (63.41 km/h) and 2030 kilometres in 32 hours 55 mins (63.24 km/h) as 12472 Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-Bandra Terminus Swaraj Express.
It is hauled by a Ghaziabad Loco Shed based WAP-7 electric locomotive from end to end.

Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra railway station (station code: SVDK) is a railway station on the Jammu Udhampur Srinagar Baramulla Railway Link in the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. It mainly serves for the town of Katra where the major hindu divine temple Shri Mata Vaishno Devi is situated which is visited by millions of travellers per month with the help of this station and its frequent special trains connectivity from all over India. The station belongs to the Firozpur division of Northern Railway zone in Jammu and Kashmir.
In 1898, Maharaja Prathap Singh first explored to connect Jammu with Srinagar. But due to non-co ordination and other reasons, it stopped.
In April 2005, the Jammu Udhampur Srinagar Baramulla Railway Link was completed up to Udhampur railway station from Jammu side and up to Banihal railway station from Srinagar side. Pirpanjal railway tunnel was completed and testing was being conducted in 2012. The rail link was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 4 July 2014 at 10:00 A.M. This means that Katra is currently the northern terminus of the southern section of the Jammu-Baramulla line as well as the northernmost place accessible on the contiguous network of Indian Railways.
The Jammu-Baramulla line is a railway track being laid to connect the Kashmir Valley in the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir with Jammu railway station and thence to the rest of the country. The 338 km railway track will start from Jammu and end at Baramulla. It comes under the jurisdiction of the Firozpur railway division of Indian Railways' Northern zone. Part of this railway route from Udhampur to Baramulla is known as Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramula Rail Link (USBRL). The 359 m (1,178 ft) tall Chenab Bridge lies on this line, which is the tallest railway bridge in the world. The total project cost in 2022 was INR28,000 crore (~US$3.5 billion).
Construction of the route faced natural challenges including major earthquake zones, extreme temperatures and inhospitable terrain. This Rail project from Jammu to Baramula was being initiated by Prime Minister Shri PV Narsimha Rao in 1996 later in 2002 Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee announced it National Project. Although scheduled completion date for the project was 15 August 2007, the revised timeline for the completion of remaining Katra-Banihal section of the project is December 2024.
The extension of railway line from Baramulla to Kupwara has also been approved, and revised Detailed Project Report (DPR) for it was submitted in July 2020 by the Railway Board.
Bandra Terminus (station code: BDTS) also known as Vandre Terminus (in Marathi) is a railway terminus in Bandra, Maharashtra from where trains bound for northern India and western India are scheduled regularly. It was built in the 1990s to decongest the main Mumbai Central station. It is one of the five railway terminus within Greater Mumbai. The other four terminals are - Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Mumbai Central, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and Dadar. It is close to Bandra Kurla Complex, a commercially important part of Mumbai as well as Mumbai Airport.
