Shrew Classic Hunter II longbow chronographed

Спорт

Here's a short video showing the Shrew Classic Hunter II longbow being shot over a Caldwell Ballistic Precision chronograph. 45# draw,at 28" and shooting a Gold Tip Traditional carbon arrow weighing in at 550 grains. Average speed is about 170 fps according to the chrony. I have not taken a deer with this bow yet, but I feel confident the bow will deliver if I do my part. Super accurate and quiet. Shrew Classic Hunter II 52" longbow.

Thank you for the thorough review! I had the opportunity to test drive it just recently at the last Kalamazoo Trade Show. The Shrew bows especially the Classic Hunter II blew me away! It's quiet, no hand shock, and felt fast in my hand (Chrono not available). Your video all but confirmed it.

A fellow struggle stick hunter I can really appreciate...a nice hybrid longbow...a sharp looking silver Silverado...AND...camo crocs (I too have all three!). Great info sir, thanks! And I agree about the "Ranch Fairy." I'm not sure why he gets "hate" from a certain segment of archers...I think his information is great and I for one appreciate his "attitude" and/or feelings towards those that look down their collective noses at other archers because they feel their way is THEEE only way. Once again sir, thank you!

Thanks for the comment. "Struggle stick" is a term I have not heard before, but a very accurate description of a trad bow. I really enjoy shooting trad bows and after you figure out how to shoot one with consistent accuracy its very rewarding. Best regards.

Should be 15 yards or less in my opinion, but I've seen on KZread some of them boys can shoot up to 30 40 yards accurately

Great video! I know this was a while back. Wondering after owning this bow for a while what are your thoughts, likes/dislike? I am currently seriously considering a shrew bow and leaning towards the Classic Hunter II. They make this one in three lengths. 52", 54", 56". What length is yours? Any issues with finger pinch? My draw length is 28" and I was thinking either the 52" or 54". Is yours the one piece or break down? Any other advice if ordering a Shrew? Thank you for taking the time to review the bow.

Mine is the 52" one piece. No finger pinch at my 28" draw.. The 56" is going to be a little more forgiving. I chose the 52" for hunting out of a treestand. The only thing I would have done different is the color. Mine is a dark brown and I think its a absolutely beautiful piece of craftmanship, I almost ordered the green one they had in stock. It was a 42 pound and I really wanted the 45#, so I went with it. Henry Bodnik developed a coating called "Bearpaw Glass". These Shrew bows have it on them and its almost a matte finish. Very tough and durable with no shiny glare when hunting. Best of luck whatever you decide. RR

EFA (Eagles Flight Archery) Makes several different quivers. Check Ebay or do a search. Very nice handmade quivers and reasonably priced. Mine is a 3 arrow model, but they have several options. Best of luck. RR

Thank you for your video. I was wondering if you were not hunting in a tree stand or blind would you get a longer shrew bow? I ask because I want to get a take down Shrew but I will never be in a stand and I will have it in my bag when hiking up to the alpine so the shorter the two pieces the better but I wonder if a longer one would bring any advantages as shrew bows are shorter bows anyway. Thank you for your time and video.

Go with the longest bow that will work for your situation. A longer bow is more forgiving and can be shot more accurately, easier. Best of luck.

@@ReconRokon Thank you for the response. I was thinking along those same lines but wanted to check as it seems your bow rocks and easy to pack if it was a two piece. Thank you. Would you have any other suggestions on other bows that as good as the shrew? I am also looking at a Big Jim bow but have never shot either bow.

@@calebcaulum9888 Honestly, Big Jim makes a bow that it every bit of the high quality as the Shrew. Not sure about Big Jims warranty, but his bows are top shelf and probably right around the same price point. I think you will be happy with either.

Are you sure that is a 550 grain arrow? What spine is it? Because using the GT Calculator if its a 500 spine, you're probably at about 495 grains, and if its a 400 spine, you're probably at 515 grains. Which seems more likely to me to be near 500 grains arrow weight at that velocity, with 45# and 28" draw. That is what I have found most R/D longbows will do with a 11Gpp arrow, I geek out on this stuff too much, but im thinking your arrow is a little lighter than what you are thinking. Thanks for the video, I like the look of that short little longbow.

I know there's a huge price difference but how does the Old Mountain mesa compare to the Shrew classic hunter

  • @ReconRokon

    @ReconRokon

    3 жыл бұрын

Honestly, the Old Mountain Mesa is a tremendous value. Shoots great and is very similar to the Shrew only 12" longer. I got a heck of a deal on my Old Mountain because it was marked 40# draw weight and is actually 45# at 28" which is what I wanted (45#). I got the bow new from 3 Rivers Archery for less than $200 shipped! As you know, the Shrew bows are very expensive. I mainly bowhunt out of treestands and my shots are almost always inside of 25 yards, so the short length of the Shrew is what I was looking for. No regrets buying it and I shoot it more accurately than any of the trad bows I own. The Shrew is a top quality custom bow and the 30 year warranty is incredible. I consider it a heirloom piece and will leave it to my Grandson. To answer your question, the Shrew is a better quality bow than the OM Mesa, but if you are on a budget and can work with a 64" bow, the OM Mesa is a solid performer. Best of luck.

@@ReconRokonI have been wanting a new longbow and price really isn't the driving factor. I really like the looks of the old mountain mesa, the super Shrew 11 and I love the Striker classis longbow. Can't decide which one to pull the trigger on.

@@henryyearians5602 If there is any way possible to actually hold all 3, ideally shoot all 3 and then decide. I took a huge gamble on the Shrew as to whether I would like it or not, but as it turns out its an awesome bow that fits me perfect and shoots great. If you are interested in the Old Mountain Mesa I have, I will let it go for $200 which is what I paid for it new. I think I have a spare string to go with it as well. Its marked 40#, but on my bowscale its exactly 45# at 28" (RH bow). The bow is flawless as new. Never hunted with it, only target practice.
