He if he could have finished Shrek early in let’s say 1996 he would have won an Oscar for that . But I’m glade they saved it for mike Myers

I do feel we got kinda lucky with the shrek we have, just because the design definitely leveled out to be more polished and likable. Tho now that 3d technology has come so far, I really would like to see this version of shrek become a reality.

I wish we had a line or two about Shrek's mother. It's short, and been said countless times in other medias, but it clues us in that Shrek's mother was likely loving and supportive of her son. The fact that he shows such levity about insults directed at himself, but rage at insults directed at her could mean that she had a good attitude about it as well. He likely strongly looked up to her as a great mother who taught him to be himself, and that even if the whole world hated him, he could choose whether or not to take the poor treatment to heart (he jokes around, but it'd be revealed later that such constant negative judgement really wore on him over time)

I recall having a dream about a Shrek that looked eerily identical (nothing like the Myers’ character) to this one, but there was a catch, it was attached to a cereal commercial. It had his face placed as an icon on the cereal box that made me think it was a nightmare. The kind of cereal was General Mills-branded if I remember correctly, and I lost trust in any cereal afterwards for about seven months.😬😰

I think the one for the storyboard with Shrek and the I feel Good Test are very different from one another. Especially since the Shrek in the storyboard has the design they'd intended to use for Chris Farley. The one in the I Feel Good Test is earlier one that's more in line with the book. So I'm pretty confused.

The "I Feel Good" test was made while Farley was on the project. The simplest solution to this design problem is that like every movie, things are constantly changing. Either that design for Farley's Shrek came from before the test, or the storyboards were made after the test for the actual film after using the test as a basis

I think its earlier Because we found a different test with Chris's voice and the model does look different (and untextured) but still different So im pretty sure its an earlier model and they improved it before scrapping it

Story boards don’t need to actually match how the characters look. They’re just used as a frame of reference for where they’ll be placed in each shot and how they’ll be moving. As such, drawing Shrek exactly how he actually looked wouldn’t have been necessary. They likely were the same scene.

I would love to see comics about shrek based on the storyboard art style

Holy shit I remember this. I thought it was some type of fever dream when I was younger. It wasn't this exact clip, but from what I can recall, there was a special CD of the first Shrek movie. Shrek and Donkey ended up again in some castle ruins but instead of being stalked by a dragon, it's a haunting of Lord farquaads ghost. It was just like this video's format with scenes finished and unfinished. Resulting in still low quality pictures. I didn't think much of it because I thought the CD had scratches on it causing skips.

People don't realize this is probably the last recording of Chris Farleys voice

Apparently not all of his lines were recorded, which is why he was recast and the story was changed so much. If he recorded all of his lines I am sure the film would have been released (some animated movies have post-humous credits, like Atlantis)

I recently saw a clip of standup by Chris Farley's brother. Although they're different, they're also eerily similar at times. It would be interesting to see what he could do with it. I remember they had the brother of one of the late Muppet performers record a single line of dialogue for Scooter for one film, and it was so close to the classic voice, I initially assumed it must be some outtake from an earlier film.

He Feel’s Good

I'm hoping someone talented at 3D models and 3D animation will recreate this whole scene, with the same dim lighting, very dark, dirty and gothic esthetic and the whole "cursed" vibe. At times like this I wish I'd have skills to do that, sadly I ain't. Edit: Although, I think the scene where shrek's turning from angry to smiling fits much more at the moment when he was about to launch the mugger, since from the storyboard we know he turns from being mad at the mugger, to realizing how he can punish him amd making a pun about it, which fits PERFECTLY to the animation, even since we see shrek smiling when he launches the guy.

I'd Shrek wasn't made exactly how it was it would have failed. It is one of the few perfect movies ever made. Funny for adults and kids great animation, great acting, all arround just a fantastic movie. The sequels really gave the first movie a bad name

That couldn't be further from the truth (except for maybe Shrek the Third). Not only does the first film stand well on its own and is still remembered fondly even after all the sequels (as it should), Shrek 2 is considered to be better than the first, with some going as far to dub it one of the best sequels of all time.

The universe where this came to reality and the Shrek we all know and love didn't come to reality is sad to think about

i really hope dreamworks releases all this stuff so we can see more of one of chris' last works before his passing

I'd like to see the line readings for the original script released so maybe it could be cobbled together and have animators finish the original movie

Meanwhile in an alternate universe, All-Star didn't become popular, "Hardcore" monster duckers would have worshipped him, but there wouldn't be the Shrek community we know. There would not be any sequels but a TV show from some fanatic trying to bring it back but utterly fail. Years later people would find a animation test for Shrek using the Shrek model we know and a spark of the old Shrek following would flood Twitter with "Handsome Shrek" DreamWorks almost shutting down would see this and would try to reboot Shrek and succeed. Making them millions and creating the new Shrek Fandom we know.

I can tell the jokes don't hit as hard in this version, assuming he's reading the script and not improvising, and going from the inclusion of "I Feel Good", it seems like the soundtrack wouldn't have been as on point as the final film's album.

@@MemeSlayer I dunno, I think there’s enough information about the original to get a vague idea of the direction the film would have taken; very different to the final product. Chris Farley’s delivery is very distinct to the final, and the fact that Shrek is singing in the storyboard is enough to show the large difference in the overall tone. That is more than likely to have expanded to the scoring. I do get what you’re saying though, we’ll never know with absolutely certainty.

It's sad that some of these younger folks think this lost media from 1995 was made with Blender and say "This is crustier than the Krusty Krab" when it's clearly lost media from 1995. Pretty disrespectful as Hell from those kids if you ask me calling this lost media as "Made with Blender" or "Crustier than the Krusty Krab" when the guy literally tried to recreate what would've been one of the scenes with the highest quality footage we got and with the storyboards from the Chris Farley version of Shrek with the resources he has access to or found.
