Except that doesn't explain why Seven become Captain Seven/Annika Hansen. If he wasn't dead, she would be ACTING Captain. Unless they are planning to use Shaw for some deep cover Starfleet Intelligence mission (or perhaps even a Section 31 intervention - we KNOW they had the technology with that possible Kirk Easter Egg), and we know from Voyager that bringing crew members almost on the brink of death is something even the Doctor could sometimes pull off.

I agree 100%. I didn't care for the other 10 ways to bring him back.

Even with the limited screen time so far, Shaw is now my favorite captain.

I think I prefer the borg nanoprobes since they've already be used for that purpose and it doesn't feel like a cheat. Plus, I like the idea of Shaw waking up in a morgue. My second favorite is the emergency engineering program.

Whichever method they use, I would prefer it to be one where Shaw is Shaw (as opposed to a computer recreation/simulation, or a mirror-universe Shaw, Shaw's twin, etc.)

Yes, I agree. Stories needing a copy of a person has been overused, eg. even Picard himself, and now it is a tired mechanism of plot development. The exception has been Data's evolution that occurred in Picard3, nicely ending his long story arc complete with gift wrapping 🎀 .

What if he returns as a figment of 7's imagination. Like as result of grief or something.

How could they not know how much Shaw would end up being liked? They created a character that had a great redemption arc. And Stashwick is just an immensely likable guy. That trait quite often shows through in actors who are playing heels.

thats the point, he had his redemption and he died. That's why it mattered.. I dont get why people want to make things all cheap like this and lessen it. The worlds not roses and Star Trek should not be and never was a fairy tale. People always died.

one of the signs of excellence in writing is when a character is written in such a way that you hate them passionately from the jump and within 5 or 6 episodes there isn't anyone you routing for more.

If Shaw comes back I think it should be done over several episodes, or even a season, so that there is some doubt as to it actually happening and builds some needed conflict and tension. This character is too special to fans now to just do a quick "oops, he's not dead" kind of thing. Also it needs to tie into Trek lore some way, which is why I really like your mind meld nanoprobe idea.

I'm hoping for the "he didn't actually die" route. That is the best case scenario as far as I'm concerned. Kirk seemingly died too, as did Picard... it puts Shaw in the same league as those two. I do not want a holographic, synthetic or alternate/mirror Shaw.

I do like the EMH program of Shaw being the chief engineer. That would be a logical way to bring him back. Also, the petition for Star Trek Legacy is a great idea(which I signed), but there should be conditions that ONLY Terry Matalas has free reign over the project and no interference from Kurtzman.

I love Liam Shaw. He was such a great character. Rewatching season 3 is so hard because I know I will have to relive his death. 😢

John de Lancie appearing in a few early episodes as Q and having Picard ignore him because he has no respect/fear for Q, and then turning himself into the image of Shaw and then using his voice and mannerisms would be perfect! Young Ensign Picard would certainly be somewhat intimidated by that version of Q given their "interesting" relationship during Picard:S3. I like that idea the best.

He is NOT dead. Did not see him DIE on Screen. He was in TurboLift with a few ShapeShifters... cuts to next scene of TL doors opening with a looks battered and bleeding version of him exiting to the bridge. He was removed and replaced in the same Quick, Fast, Efficient, way the SS replaced all their previous targets.

I hope Shaw will be back in Star Trek: Legacy. I came to really like him a lot. There was some great depth to the character that deserves more exploration.

Surely it should be called the Shaw Rank Redemption would be a better name as he was a bit of a captain but came through for everyone!

Thoroughly enjoyed this episode. One correction, however: you said "You didn't see this one coming". It was, in fact, my first guess on how they'd bring Shaw back. And I still think it's the most plausible. That being said, simply wow on the other theories on how they might accomplish this. ST fans are obviously some of the most super creative and imaginative nerds out there.

Captain Shaw was a great character. I do like the nano probe idea, but I also like the fact that he can come back to life be promoted to commodore and decide to stay on the enterprise G to further mentor, 7 of 9. . She’s in command, but he decides the ships missions.

I really liked Shaw. I think if they brought him back like Picard would be the simplest, but the Seven nano probs is a good Idea too. Shaw could be Captain of Engineering on the Enterprise G.

I hope they do bring Capt. Shaw back.... He was wild !!!!

I think Captain Shaw on Titan and Captain Seven on Enterprise on the SAME show.

I love the time task force idea. That would be sick, especially getting Hammer back.

Damned good video and I loved the theories.

Two other options: - Using something from the Legion of Super-Heroes in the DC Universe: Although he appears to be human, he is actually a carggite. Carggites can split into three separate identical bodies and can recombine with their fused self acquiring all of the knowledge each body obtained when separated. The Shaw who died was one of three. Here's what might work: After the Enterprise-G departs, Seven of Nine gets a message from Shaw and she is confronted with two very furious Shaws who want to find out how their "brother" died. It turns out that the Shaws separated and have been living apart for years, deciding to seek out new experiences separately (one became a scientist, another a doctor, and the third an engineer). They merge together and then separate and become the Science Officer and Chief Medical Officer on the Enterprise-G. - Using something from the anime "Gal Force": Shaw did die but it is just one Shaw. It turns out that various Shaws (in disguise) are all over Starfleet and they all answer to a Shaw-Prime who is part of Section 31. Section 31 just dispatches another Shaw to the Enterprise-G.

I like the Command Holodeck program best for the return of Shaw. He could even leave the Holodeck from time to time to take command when Seven is away or unable for some reason.

I like the idea of the Emergency Engineering Hologram as Captain Seven's engineer.

Because I really like the idea that it was a changeling that died especially since they had an agreement with the board. It would make sense what he said to her when he died and called her 7 of 9 and it wasn't touching it was her designation. I don't think that's reaching and they gave it out on that by saying they didn't kill everyone that they abducted so he could just be stuck somewhere and we see him later in legacy as admiral. So he could just walk in during a scene as? If it were no big deal during legacy or it could be the search for him because he's somewhere alive- still. Seems the best way to bring him back in a real way. And if hes still captain he needs a different ship I suppose lol.

The last 3 ideas. Shaw woukd be perfect as a Q. The Tripp tie in leaves us with an entire time travel series to meet any and all Legacy character. Genisis idea would be a nice one off homage.

If you are going to do the time-traveling solution, bring back Cpt. Archer! He's one of my top three captains.

During Picard season 3, the way the story was going, i did think shaw wa a changeling.

I like the katra idea. Unlike Spock and Bones, a nanite enhancement angle might belatedly enable Seven and Shaw to be consciously aware of one another permitting limited communication with a dash of comedy and snark. But I have 1 major PROVISO 😟, Jack Crusher can't be killed, disabled or otherwise disappear from ST Legacy, like Kirk's son, Dr David Marcus, did in The Search for Spock.

How about this: Captain Seven struggles with the pressures of command and finding a balance between her Starfleet training and her more dominant and reckless bounty-hunter style. She realizes her crew is at risk from her indecision and unfitness for command and orders her engineering crew to construct a transwarp corridor so she and the Enterprise G can travel back in time to rescue Shaw either from the battle with the Borg. They replace him with a clone who doesn't live long enough to be identified.

YES! YES! YES! THE SEARCH FOR SHAW!

Q and Jack meander to the Bridge, where Q is greeted astonishingly , Rafi hugs Q thanking him for reviving Elnor, Q goes "who"...oh and snaps his fingers, Elnor is on the Bridge, Q looks at Captain Seven and says congratulations Elle Capitan, I'll give you two more wishes, 7 immediately says, revive Lt. Tveen and Captain Shaw, Q snaps and LT Tveen is back at her post, and Q John Delancey is transformed into Cap. Shaw, Q now looks like Cap Shaw!

i predicted his death a few weeks in advance, right down to it being the moment that he called her Seven. he is such a popular character that mentions of this were met with ANGER.

09:59. A ghost on a ship isn't without merit, especially when you consider the legends of ghost ships on the seas, or haunted ships. It can also be an unique space phenomena that might show past events or allow Seven to time jump to that moment in time as ways of dealing with some kind of regret(s) in her life (or some time before that) and intervene in Shaw's "death" either directly or indirectly. Think of what Cable did in Deadpool 2 to save Deadpool, as inspiration.

Alternative, don't make it a time travel episode, just make it a phenomena that allows people to view crew members just prior to their death, that way, you can bring other killed crew members back again as well, in some kind of "death echo", just like a ghost. Or allow some ancient technology to create ACTUAL people from someone's memory. I'm sure there's a way in the Trek universe of allowing one to create another version of a person, if certain conditions are met. I remember a TOS novel that had the word "Phoenix" in it (had Kirk as a Romulan, golden haired?), but I can't remember if Kirk was "resurrected" in that. I knew it DID happen in the other novel featuring Kirk's resurrection with the crew of TNG (if I'm not mistaken), which also featured a black color scheme Defiant ship, but if memory serves me correctly, it wasn't the Federation that resurrected him (but I could be misremembering - it's been quite some time since I read either novel).

Seeing Matalas' fondness of including 12 Monkeys references/ Easter eggs in Trek, it'd be cool if they did the same thing they did with Deacon in 12 Monkeys. That way they get to keep the impact and permanence of the character's death, make it a way more meaningful death and you still get more Shaw (and it'd be an interesting way to explain his change of heart, although it might lessen the impact of his previous natural character development).

I've just had a idea to bring kirk bk with a new actor, they could de-age him from when he died to being a young kirk like we had in TOS, William shatter could even play kirk again to pass it off, they have his body and the tech to do it

The Genesis Device angle is one I hadn't considered. But a plot involving the crew stealing that, and Shaw's body from Section 31 would be awesome. Seven risking her career to save him (despite her overall opinion of him),would be an interesting concept. Also using that plot to demonstrate Sydney's latent engineering abilities (demonstrating she DID pick up a few things from her dad) to hack Section 31, and Jack's ability to social-engineer (a.k.a con) his way in and out would be an interesting subplot. It would be nice to also use this opportunity to not only bring back Shaw but to bring back T'Veen too.

To pixlbit: I don't see how T'veen could be brought back. She was vaporized.

.......At first, we thought Shaw was a real jerk because of the way he snubbed Riker and Picard in Episode One. When Shaw was badly injured, he yelled at Riker and he was sounding petty, then he put Riker in command of the Titan. ....After we see the real severity of Shaw's injuries, I concluded that Shaw wasn't being petty, he was making the best move for his ship and crew...because he knew it was 'Bad Injury'. ....Things with Shaw start to make sense in the Ten-Forward Holo bar. Shaw comes in..says that he is on some heavy medications and sits. ....He tells the crew and Picard that he, too, was at the Battle of Wolf 359. He was a mechanic then, maybe an enlisted man. After his ship was crippled by the Borg, he made his way with others to an escape pod...somehow, he was picked to go in the pod and survived (obviously) (((...And it was a GREAT performance by Todd...well worth Emmy/Oscar award.,,,)))) ....And all this time he was carrying the trauma of the Borg attack and a case of Survivor's Guilt. And That is when we started to like Shaw because now we understood...mostly...his attitude toward Picard. He probably saw Riker as Picard's lackey. It explained a lot. ....It even gave the reason he chose Seven as his First Officer. She had been a victim of the Borg and had been fighting Her battle to get back to being Human...that's why he insisted that she used her Human name. ....That scene in the bar made Shaw more human to we Fans and now we understood him more. And we learned that he wasn't a 'bad guy'...he was just a dip shit mechanic from Chicago. ....I think the best option is the borg tech revives Shaw and he's promoted to Admiral. But he didn't want to be like Riker, a captain with out a chair...or Admiral Picard, who seems to bounce around the galaxy on his own whim. So as he tries to understand his resurrection, Admiral Shaw gets himself assigned to the Enterprise-G as a crew council, Second or even First Officer.... ((A captain and First Officer CAN"T, by Star Fleet regulations be Romantically involved with one another )) especially to Capt. Seven and Young ensign Crusher, IF that's what he calls himself now. .....The Question Not Asked or Addressed. Are Picard and Beverly now A Couple? If So, what about Picard and the woman at his vineyard? Did Picard get the Enterprise-D picture to Geordi or did he keep it? And what of Worf and Data? Maybe Terry could tie up those loose ends in Legacy.

12:11. Not all people from the Mirror Universe was "evil" as we understood it. Kira's ex lover was a Mirror Universe version, as was Smiley (Chief O'Brien), as well as several other Mirror Universe versions. Mirror Universe Spock also become a force of good within the Mirror Universe, and we know there was a rebellion that pushed back against the Klingons who replaced the Terran Empire. ;)

My view of the Mirror Universe is that it is not necessarily evil, its just that things played out differently in that universe. Although we haven't seen them (yet) it is possible that there are other alternate universes in Star Trek.

I'll add a 12th - Project Phoenix at Daystrom Station - they've been looking for a good captain to reanimate, but Kirk's body was too damaged and Picard is still alive so they choose Shaw.

People love Shaw because he was the most down-to-earth character we've seen in Trek. Making him a hologram, an android, a Mirror-Mirror dupe, a clone, a twin brother, a time traveling agent, etc. all...ALL...inherently change the nature of that character. Bring the original Shaw back simply, quickly, and without much scrutiny, and then move on like it didn't happen and let the character be. You make him "special" and he is no longer a "dipshit from Chicago".

Admiral Shaw (the logical conclusion from a Search For Shaw miniseries) would be the way to bring him back to Legacy.

The last one is too much of a re-hash of ST:III. The mirror universe one combined with the hologram engineer is the way to go. But instead of the mirror universe, it's just an alternate reality where he never encountered the Borg and only became Chief engineer of the Titan (which never bacame the Enterprise E). Basically, Seven ends up in his reality, and he has to help her get back using the transporters somehow. During the events, the Titan is attacked and will not survive. There being only enough power to transport 3 people through to realities to the Enterprise G, the first Captain of the Titan (Alternate Riker) orders Alternate Shaw, Alternate T'Veen, and Seven to beam out to safety. This brings Alternate Shaw to the Enterprise-G where he becomes their Chief Engineer, who now also has a similar trauma (being picked to leave his crew behind) except this trauma is totally fresh. Seven helps him through it understanding what she knows about the previous Shaw.

I'd love to see Legacy series. My worry is Paramount is struggling financially and may continue to falter. I can see the active Trek shows being pushed off to other platforms only to be cancelled in short order. There is great Trek out there right now, but the suits are failing at running the business.

I'm pretty torn. Part of me thinks redoing Search For Spock is an awful idea but then the more I think it out the more I kinda love it.

I freaking ADORE all the love that 12 Monkeys gets from you guys. TNG is my fave show of all time, 12 Monkeys is a close second. I love Shaw, hope he comes back somehow.

I would rather Shaw survived and is now stationed directly under Geordie at the fleet museum and he's their unconventional systems go to guy. He can he alive and well but just under the physical requirement for a command due to his injuries. OR he could have just decided he would rather be at the fleet museum working directly under his idol.

Frankly, I'm more partial to the Mirror Universe idea for Shaw, but instead of that Shaw coming to the Federation Universe, the Enterprise-G crew goes into the Mirror Universe. He can have the same snark, but he never thought to fall in with the Rebellion, so he tries to live away from the conflict of the Mirror Universe.

Shaw is a god ...please bring him back 😊

Whilst I like the idea of a member of the Q continium having the appearance and character of Cpt Shaw, I don't know whether the relationship and dynamics between Crusher and Q Shaw would be better than that already established between Seven and Shaw. Maybe a new actor we have not seen before, should be the new rep of the Q continium. [edited to better distinguish between characters].

I envisioned Shaw returning as a Q. Except De Lancie Q revives Shaw and gives him Q powers, not just take on Shaw’s appearance. If De Lancie Q is near death again, he would pass the baton to Shaw Q and let Shaw Q put the Enterprise-G to the test.

My idea is using the GENESIS II torpedo and launching it at a dead moon or planet shoot SHAW’S CASKET at that planet the protomatter radiation will regenerate him thus bring him back. But the trouble with that is… it will wipe his memory and leave him blank. So, a copy of SHAW’S brain would be required to download into his new body.

I just hope if they do bring him back he stays a captain. I don't think his return would work as well with out him as a Captain( #shaw lives!)
