as a pre-med student, No, the hypodermis which is the subcutaneous part is made up of adipose tissue (stores fat) IT IS NOT PART OF THE ACTUAL SKIN! the skin is the EPIDERMIS and DERMIS only, the hypodermis is not an actual part of the skin🔪
Please do a video on birthmarks. Do birthmark’s go all the way down to the inner skin lining? Thank you
@_A4A
Жыл бұрын
Well all Birthmarks, Moles, etc are created from Melanin and is produced by specialized cells called "Melanocytes". The melanocytes are scattered among other cells in the deepest layer of the outer layer of the skin (epidermis) called the basal layer. After melanin is produced, it spreads into other nearby skin cells. In the video, he discussed the Hypodermis, which is much deeper than where pigmentation is produced! Hopefully that answers your question.

That was definitely an awesome question that my dense mind wouldn’t have conjured on its own. However makes me very curious once I thought about it. I have a beige birthmark naturally etched into the skin on my ankle that is the shape of the USA (including Hawaii underneath it and to the left😂) So it really makes me question how deep into my skin it really goes lol. EDIT: well I suppose I should have read the other responses before I posted this lol. But thanks to the the person who broke the question down and answered it!

@@H4RK-M4YD4Y Very long response: My program made sure to spend our first "dissection" class introducing us to our donor, how they came to go through the program that procures this for our class, and we get to prepare them by seeing them first day without doing any dissections. We talk to faculty and their relatives who have signed up for this donation process and hear their perspective on why they choose to do it. A lot of people learn to manage it; for example, fainting and/or taking a break during the class, crying, talking it through with others, reflecting on their own. It helps that our donors are introduced to us as our first patients - there is an honor and respect in that relationship. We start dissecting with the back and shoulder - which is likely because a) it's easier for first time dissectors with the bigger structures and b) we don't see them face to face. Inevitably we have to skin our donor bodies to get to the structures underneath, as alarming as that sounds. Usually after the first day of actual dissecting, a lot of people who had hesitations are good enough with it by then. That way, by the time we get to the more personal aspects of dissecting like the face, skull, inside of the eyes and nose where we have to cut the skull apart - we can acknowledge that while it is unnerving to see a body in real life like that, it is also incredibly important for educating and identifying these important structures because they have very real consequences in clinical applications. Textbook learning just does not cut it, especially if you expect your future physicians to operate or explain to patients what's going on.
@veraserah
Жыл бұрын
@@plumenommershpadoinkle7575 I bet! It was also unnerving to go through the process; our professor explained to us that with the relatively large structures in the leg, the embalming fluid likely did not seep to all of the surface of the skin through the blood vessels it gets pumped through, so it did not set the structures as well as it could have. We poured more embalming fluid after our first day in that area and it improved from there.
