Good luck with your home automation, because HANDS DOWN the Echo is still miles and miles better. And the new Echos are much better than in this video. Echo also better with a security system, And integrated with your TV (Amazon Fire). But hey, every time you ask Google Home about anything I am SURE the Google is Hands Down superior at sending you emails/spamming your web browser trying to sell you the product! But at least they are also recording everything you say in your house. ENJOY!

Anything powered by Google related to information will always be better!

"Alexa" is more convenient to say than "Okay Google" but Google needs to improve the Google home. I think Alexa has the upper hand right now.

In my experience, I found that "hey Google" was harder to trigger than "ok Google" even though I think it feels more natural to say "hey Google." There were times when I literally had to scream Hey Google when it was somewhat loud in my house, but could say ok Google without screaming and it would trigger. Overall though, Echo's utilization of its seven far field microphones is better at detecting the trigger words.

Just FYI since the info in this video is a bit outdated. Google Home is rolling out native support for Weemo, Belkin, Lifx, Honeywell, Wink, TP-Link, and First Alert. They already supported Nest, Samsung/Smartthings, Chromecast, Philips Hue and IFTTT. They still have some more catching up to do but the Amazon Echo has been out for 2 yrs. I'm confident more 3rd party hardware will start to support as time goes on.

I use the RGB strips from.amazk On, then get the WIFI controller and they work fine. You can control the colour and brightness too

Not to troubleshoot you guys, but in doing some research I discovered that you would have greater success if you had set up your accounts for the devices. An account with a Google calendar, an Amazon music account, etc would have given you better results. Great video, thanks!

What’s funny is my moms birthday was just yesterday and watching this video my Sonos speaker with Alexa heard them ask the echo to sing happy birthday and she started singing it right when my mom walked in the room and she was so surprised and happy and thought I planned the whole thing and gave me a big hug and kissed me on my head. Haha I’m not gonna tell her what really happened, she enjoyed it so much.

Google home will win in the long run but not currently.

Personally it is fair to compare. Amazon has been on the market for 2 years now, however, the Google team has know what the capabilities are and should of rolled out with many of that basic ones. IE: reminders should be working

Google Home supports IFTTT though? You can hook up A LOT of smart home devices with IFTTT. Both devices support that.

mortenmoulder Problem with IFTTT is it's yet another cloud based service that you're relying on, on top of communicating with Amazon or googles servers and then whatever the final destination is before performing your request and them kind of services get shut down and have outages.

You never addressed the fact that skins can be purchased to change the look of your Alexa. no, since it's wirelessly connected to the internet, it does a very rapid web search before reporting back to you.

So compare a product that just hit the market on 1.0 software to a 2 year old product. Lets wait a few months and see how Google Home fairs.

Absolutely and it's just the most obvious thing to understand that Google Home will improve exponentially with time considering how engaged google and its product are with our lives, particularly if you own an Android device. In just a couple of years, Google Home will kick Alexa out of competition and will be no less than a human assistant.

Yeah, I geuss they had Google Play subscription on Google Home.. probably just Prime on Echo, so the Amazon selection was limited.

Google Home has KZread, as well as Google Play Music (and can add Spotify, etc.).

You really don't need "Unlimited" just your Prime account would satisfy most (imho).

rfrancoi If you have Spotify, IHeartRadio, etc. I don't want to mess with all that. Otherwise it gave me "samples" of songs. Sure Spotify is free but if you don't listen to mainstream music, you'll want Unlimited

Ramon Rivas I figured they should have had IF support and through there pretty much anything is possible

Sounded to me like Alexa added "buy eggs tomorrow" as a reminder set for 4pm that same day. Instead of adding it as "buy eggs" and the reminder was set at 4pm tomorrow.

Now that the HomePod is announced, I am excited about the followup to this video :)
