Amen to that As Geo was using those cartridge razors I could feel the facial irritation for him lol 😂 even against the grain with a straight razor you get no irritation imo but with a cartridge razor you feel that irritation with and against the grain thank God I stop using those cursed things.

Hahahaha. I knew I wouldn't be the only one! I could SEE the irritation in Geo's facial expressions, as he shaved. When I converted to safety razor usage, I never looked back. At this point, I'm just kind of curious to see the difference in the shave for myself. It's been so long that I used a cartridge that I don't even remember what that was like..... LOL

Gotta say this is probably my favorite shave channel on the site. It doesnt have a ton of production like another channel such as razor emporium, but geo presents well, knows his stuff, and is personable! Not only that, but i feel he gives the fairest shake in the game to any product he may be reviewing. Doesnt matter if its a straight, safety, cartridge, etc. He'll tell you whats good, and tell you whats bad, like how he mentioned the trimmer on the fusion here instead of just "all cartridges = satan" Great job Geo! keep up the quality vids, and keep those runways clear!

About a year ago, I had to use a cartridge style razor again for a shave, and I can tell you, LESS face prep is better. I love the rich, thick lathers of the shave soaps, creams, butters and oils I use when I use a DE or Shavette style rig, but they're unnecessary with a cartridge and clog the hell out of the space between the blades. The BEST thing about back when I used cartridge razors (and had less of a facial hair style) was that, for a daily shave, a light lather of moisturizing bar soap was all I needed, and I could do almost the whole shave right in the shower. 3-5 blades + a lube strip and whisker fins have negated the need for so much protection. They're designed to give a good shave easily, without injury, and without need of skill or practice.

That's true - those lube strips are excellent. A new cartridge would give you a very close and safe shave. The downside is they last very few shaves, and they are costly.

Thanks for giving cartridges a fair shake. All of my attempts to return to DE or injector (which I left behind in 1973) have resulted in lots of blood. Carts work for me. I am now using Harry's, with no blood, super close with one pass against the grain. Thanks for a nod to the cart side.

If you let the razor do the work by not pressing against your face, then you'll have no nics or weepers with safety razors, which are obviously safer to use and easier to maintain than straight razors. If you're getting old and/or facial hair is getting thinner, then sure cartridge is for you. But if you abuse a single blade razor, it will abuse you.

It looked to me like the Gillette out performed but I would attribute that to it having 2 extra blades. You have to rinse off the cartridges more frequently than you did since they clog up having more than one blade, but I think you proved how more effective DE razor is.

I have a thick dark beard, I prefer cartridge razors, I feel like I get a better shave and I never cut myself. My problem with the safety razor is the head is too big and other than the feather blades they just don’t shave close enough for me. I use the Mach 3 turbo blades, they cut right through my stubble and always give me a comfortable shave. I will never understand why some guys have problems with them.

The Feather wins for me as it seems to have a more secure closure on the cartridge and a way better grip. The blades are spaced further apart which is why it tends not to tug or clog as much either.

I don’t understand why people hack so quickly and don’t rinse cart blades more frequently. I shave with all manner of razors but when I use a fusion or hydro just a couple of strokes, rinse, repeat. The thing about having the lubricant on the blade, you can address against the grain where needed on the spot w/out reapplying cream.

I use a Gillette Vector simply because it works as good as the Fusion and 24 blades cost me $25 lol. I get about 7 or more shaves from a Cartridge. I stopped using Fusion and all the other Cartridge razors because the prices keep getting higher and higher. The Vector also shaves pretty decent, not allot of pulling with it and it has a little pusher to get rid of hair stuck between the blades. Gillette and all the other companies got too caught up with the multi blade gimmick in the 90's. Two blades on a Cartridge razor is all you really need. I mainly use safety razors these days, but when I want a quick shave I reach for the Vector with a can of Gillette Foamy and I'm good. The Vector Cartridge also fits my Dad's Aluminum Atra handle from 1979.

The secret to shaving with a cartridge razor (3 or more blades), constantly rinse. Like after every stroke, rinse out the blades. [It is why Safety Razors & Straight razors are better.] Also longer strokes work better for cartridges.

Fun fact about the gillette proglide; they originally marketed the vibrating feature as a way to make the hairs stand up and get a closer shave. They don't market it this way anymore because they got sued and LOST for false advertising. Don't buy into the gimmicks, folks. If you're enjoying your shave, there's no need to chase the latest ever-developing shaving technology. Edit: I'm preaching to the choir, I know!
