Be careful with any type of showcase, camp, or combine event! Make sure that you build up a relationship with the coaching staff before ever attending!
Try to avoid the generic letters and emails. Make sure you're actually getting recruited before forking out your hard earned cash.

    thank you for spreading the truth! Im a high school and travel ball coach and i tell this to them all the time!! most parents and student athletes dont believe in what you are saying! The showcases have a negative impact on some kids/families for many reasons, but one major one is the cost. The cost deters a lot of families from pursuing their childs dream of playing at the next level because they cant afford it and they are told thats the only way their child will be seen. Keep up the great work!

    My nephew who just completed his sophmore year went to a showcase (baseball in Florida) & then started getting calls from many colleges. Along with that they want him to call everyday & has been offered several 65% plus scholarships from Miami,UCF,UIF,Virginia,East Carolina,Notre Dame & others & West Virginia has offered him about 95%. He will decide by end of July. They are all fighting for him & was not known to much before this unless they have been keeping it quit.

    Thanks for the video man! I'm currently in the situation that I've been to so? many showcases and spent probably close to $1000 on camps and I'm asking myself "why haven't I gotten any emails back yet?" But now I realize that it's just all money makers for colleges and its nothing serious and now I can tell what's personalized and what's not. Thanks dude I'm glad I figured this out in April of my junior year than in April of my senior year.

    Showcases will give you an idea of how you stack up with your competitors, gives you an inside look at college facilities where you may want to attend, and break up the monotony of the off-season. They will give you an idea of the expectations for being recruited. Every player needs to know exactly what their 60 yard time is, their time to 1st base, their arm speed, bat speed, exit velocity, etc. Showcases are a measure of skills. Yes, they are expensive, but not meeting expectations due to not being aware of them or not preparing for them is a recipe for disaster. I don’t mind paying to avoid that disaster.

    Good rule of thumb..If there is an "unsubscribe" button at the bottom of email you are NOT being recruited.....I have had players ask me about emails that were from Constant Contact or Mailchimp.....Colleges are great at making it seem personal to get you to their camp, spend $3-4-500 but really have no idea who you are....

    +Joe Norton I completely agree with you Joe! So many times those emails are just mass messages sent out to players. all they need to do is have their software automatically replace the first name so it looks personalized! Good point.

    In my experience showcases only helps if you truly have the goods to play at the college level. Most showcases incorporate skills testing as part of their showcase package. They generally test players in the 60 yard dash, Raw throwing Velocity, and ball Exit Velocity off the Tee. Test at the following levels and D1 / D2 will put you on their follow list. * 60 yard Dash : Below 7 seconds * Raw Throwing Velocity: 87+ mph (also known as Arm Pull-Downs or Crow Hop Throw) * ball Exit Velocity off Tee: 90+ mph If you aren’t at these level it will be extremely difficult to be considered for scholarship money from any college.

    This is sound advice. You don't get recruited because you attend a combine. You get recruited because you run sub 6.7.... display power potential.....swing 90 to 105 bat speed.... throw 85 plus consistently...pop 2.0 or less Colleges recruit up the middle. Catcher, RHP, SS, CF. They don't recruit 1B, 3B, LF, RF.. if you play any of these 4 as a primary you better have power no one else has... because if these are your primary you are not fast enough or athletic enough to play up the middle. And when say power no one has, that's what I mean. Best thing you can do for your kid is be real with expectations...support them and there dreams...responsibly.... Combines are just money makers.... if your kid has the skills you will know it, they will know it... because coaches will be calling.... then it is worth spending a little $$...

    hey I am a junior in high school and I just wanted to ask a question because I have no clue what is going on with me right now, hopefully I can get an answer. So I went to this showcase this summer and I got a lot of interest from colleges while I was there. Once I got home, I talked to couple of the coaches who were there and they invited me to the camps. I went to 2 camps after the showcase each with a phone all and text messages. I talked to the coaches at the camps and they told me to stay in touch and keep in contact and that they liked what they saw from me. But that has been two months ago and I have not gotten anything back yet. I have sent them couple of text messages but they have not responded. Nor they said they were going to call me but nothing has happened at all. And there’s nobody around me to ask for advices. I am really stressed and I don’t know what to do because I don’t want to keep contacting them first without getting an answer. I would take any advice as of right now so please let me know if you would like for me to know anything. Thank you.

    Another question sorry. I've heard the JUCO baseball is the way to go to get drafted because with D1 schools you don't play the first years and you aren't anyone special? So I really don't know. Because you are able to get drafted every year with JUCO and can transfer to a D1 school if you want to.

    What do you think of the baseball youth program

  • @bh5082

    @bh5082

    5 жыл бұрын

    My son did a couple Baseball Youth tournaments, and it was a BIG waste of money. He had a decent time, and you see the range of talent diversity. However, it seemed like "Daddy Ball" all over again. Literally, some kids who weren't very talented had their dad as the coach, so they played the most innings and batted at the top of the order. My son hit .450 and still was placed at the bottom of the roster while .150 hitters were at the top. After a couple of games, I asked the "daddy coach" if the line-up could be flipped, and he said no. Don't do Baseball Youth if you are serious about your son enhancing his skills and playing against top-notch competition. Don't waste your money.

    I'm torn on this video. I think you're on the right track with this video but there some things I'm just like WTF Justin. 1st, you complain about businesses sending out mass emails but then at the end you ask them to sign up for your business mass mailer... 🤦🏻‍♂️ Yes colleges are businesses and these coaches are busy as shit. They don't have the time to personally write a message to every kid who attends an event. When they send the email out, it's apart of a funnel to see which ones stick their hands out and say yes I'm interested in playing at your school. Then they get select out of that group which ones they would really want. Hmm. You're pretty familiar with funnels, think you can understand how that goes right? 2nd your example of a telemarketer is terrible for this and again you contradicted yourself. "I'm not in the state of mind to buy" These coaches are 100% in the state of mind to buy at these events. That's exactly why they go. To pay/buy a player to come to their school. The real reason why showcases are a waste of money that you failed to mention is that 90% of those kids aren't good enough to get recruited. I was working the Rapsodo unit for a showcase this past weekend, which is how I even found your video, and out of all 200+ players, there's less then 30 that stood out to me or the coaches that were there.
