Hi Jerry, I just found the channel and I love it. Maybe I don't quite understand what you mean by "clean up your digital signatures and digital persona on social media", can you explain it to me?. Thanks again.

Hi Chila, welcome to the channel! I mean, unless it is your target audience, try to avoid being overly political or having any controversial views or posts in social media. They can resurface and if they offend any of your editors or hiring managers it could affect your ability to get a gig.

Thanks Jerry. Any advice for how one can get into shooting pro sports? It seems quite impossible as there doesn’t seem to be anywhere I can find ever hiring those positions. Thanks for any advice.

Great video, does caption style play a part in your portfolio style? Should I format the images for a specific wire service or publication.

Hey thanks for watching. It is a good habit to include captions, but I would say while caption content is important, the exact style is not, because whoever you are shooting for will have their own style for you to follow. For display, I don't have a specific preference, but perhaps it is a good idea to look into how a certain wire service or publication you are shooting for likes their photos (do they have a preference of vertical, horizontal, etc)

Hello Jerry. This is is very useful information. I was wondering what your thoughts are on a physical portfolio/album. I might not be able to maintain a website for long and Instagram might not be the best online portfolio to present. Would you (as an editor) consider a physical portfolio with printed images or even as an electronic document? Thanks again for the great channel.

Great comment. So I will tell you, I have not seen a physical portfolio in a very long time. It's a little "old school." The reason is that in person interviews are so rare these days. When I am hiring freelancers usually I get by with just an online portfolio or a test upload. That said, I received a portfolio book in the mail not too long ago and it was very impressive. You bet you that person got a call back and a serious look. That said, an electronic document does sound like a good hybrid approach. Much more formal than a social media site, but appropriate for an age where in person meetings are few and far in between.

Jerry, when you mention portfolio, are you referring to a website? Could it be to create an electronic album? If I wanted to send a portfolio to an editor, like yourself, how would I find out how would I find an email address or other form of contact?

Great advice Jerry! Question....Does age enter consideration of a photographer?

If someone can produce great pictures, and is great at following instructions and delivering on a shot list / story line, then age doesn't matter. Obviously sometimes age will come into factor if it's a certain event - like if it's an extremely physical or laborious event - but we often know who we are using really well and can adapt or adjust to someone's skillset and capabilities.
