Show Progress Using an Image in Excel Chart (WordArt Infochart with % completion)

This video showcases a creative approach to using Excel for visually impactful presentations. The tutorial demonstrates how to conditionally format WordArt to display project completion percentages in a dynamic and visually appealing way. This technique involves manipulating WordArt and Excel features like clustered column charts and linked pictures, without any need for VBA scripting.
⬇️ Download the workbook here: pages.xelplus.com/wordart-exc...
The process starts by setting up a WordArt text box linked to a cell displaying the project's completion percentage. A clustered column chart is then created, representing the percentage completed and the remaining portion. Adjustments are made to overlap the chart bars and to alter the appearance, ensuring the filled part of the bar reflects the completion percentage.
To seamlessly integrate this chart with the WordArt, the tutorial guides you through creating a linked picture of the chart and cropping and rotating it to fit within the WordArt. This results in an innovative presentation element where the percentage completion visually fills up the WordArt, dynamically changing with the project's progress.
The video emphasizes that no advanced programming skills are required, making this technique accessible for regular Excel users. This approach is suitable for enhancing project presentations, making them more engaging and informative. The tutorial concludes by highlighting the ease of grouping and manipulating these elements as a single object within Excel, linked directly to the data source for real-time updates.
This video covers two topics that lets you get creative with Excel:
1. How to have dynamic word art that is controlled with a formula
2. How to create bar in bar Excel charts
As a bonus we put them together to create an info-chart that shows percentage completed of a specific task.

Thanks for sharing such a great technique. As usual I will ask if possible to keep the conditionally formatted by the value of the percentage? Waiting for the next video with full percentage number filling!
@LeilaGharani
6 жыл бұрын
You're very welcome. Yes - to keep the conditional formatting for the value as well, we can use VBA - coming up in next week's video.
Copy linked picture is so cool
Awesome tutorial as usual...thank you so much...I have just couple of queries though...what if % exceeds 100%? And can we have some color effect? What I meant by color effect is...incase % is very low..let's say 12%...it shows in red...and in case it touches 90% it turns green... something like standard conditional formatting....m sure you'll find out some solution for above said queries...
Wow again
wow amazing thx leila please learn dynamic filter in dashboard thank you

Thanks Ali. Glad you like it. Ok. Will add filter to list.
First, Thanks a lot for your teaching vidéos. I have the honor to Ask you if it possible to make a drop down liste in Excel that the number of choice (in list) reduces After each selection. Thanks a lot.
great idea - could also be used as a progress bar rather than the technique that uses frame and label controls in a user form. I'm guessing this would be less overhead and faster update

PLZ MAKE VIDEOS ON EXCEL DASHBOARDS
Hi Leila, Bravo, encore!! You should add this to your chart course, it fits right into it! Where did you get the idea for this, this is totally amazing. You're definitely thinking outside the box. I wonder how these techniques can be applied to a pie chart where the pieces of the pie increase as the percentage goes up. In other words, you start showing only a portion of the piece (not the whole pie as it typical) and as you increase or decrease its value only this portion of the piece is being shown. If you have 35% of the total, only 35% is shown and the other 75% is invisible. Do you think this would be possible? I'll add this to the file.
@LeilaGharani
6 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael - the idea actually came from a question from JP on the Excel Forum. Here is the link: www.excelforum.com/excel-charting-and-pivots/1193412-percentage-number-to-have-a-fill-up-to-its-value.html I think the pie chart one can work, by adding a series for the other half (so 1 minus the % of piece) and then making the other half white.... maybe with just a thin black border... thanks for adding this to the file too :)
wow
Hi, I want to know how to copy range from excel and paste as image format(bitmap) in outlook body of email using VBA Please help me
@LeilaGharani
6 жыл бұрын
You can first export the image and then attach it to an outlook email. I cover this actually in my VBA course with a PDF document. You can do early binding here and activate the outlook reference library. An alternative option is to use the send email option from Excel directly (which uses your default email) - this way you can send a worksheet as an attachment. You could copy the range to a separate tab first - paste as values and attach the Excel sheet if that's an option...

It might be because your axis is not fixed? Make sure that min for the axis has been put to 0 and that max is 1.
Something happened for me and it didn't work right after 84%
