Show Dog Transformation

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Tripp Goes from Fluffball to Fancy! ~ Grooming the Poodle for show in a Historically Correct Continetal clip. This is the original working Poodle trim for hunting & water dogs. It is the same pattern you traditionally see in today's conformation ring, only the coat is shortened for more practicality with an active performance dog. Some judges may prefer the big hair, but the HCC trim is indeed a regulation style choice at any show.

    Such a stupid look for such a great hunting dog. But that being said, there was a reason for that particular clip. Those balls of fur kept their joints warm, while shaving off unnecessary hair kept them from getting bogged down with a waterlogged coat. It also helped them to dry faster. So yes, its look dumber than all hell, but it has a purpose.

    Blanca I can agree with you on they have a reason for the way they cut its hair. But that in no way affects how ugly I think it is. The breed is beautiful in its fur color and feeling. The cut should not be used for showing the dog even if the cut is for a specific reason.

  • @ethanlamoureux5306

    reg profant The cut is part of the breed standard. It is a large part of what distinguishes a poodle from any other breed. I don’t see anybody criticising all the other breeds which have specific grooming requirements, so why all the negativity over the poodle?

  • @girlart9

    @girlart9

    Жыл бұрын

    Well, personally, I do not care for this cut. I realize it is the standard and the cut serves some sort of purpose, especially the puffs of hair covering the hip sockets. Keeps them warm when hunting and in water?? But I think the extremes of that cut just looks silly - extremely short next to long hair?? It’s cute for the circus though. (I do like poodles having the clean face and feet, especially the face because of all the “doodles” being bred. Doodles have an unclipped face usually - whatever.) The poms (?) above the feet accentuate the “poodle prance” style of walking/running. Well, that’s my two cents, folks. 😎

    You would be able to tell if the dog has ever been hit. It would be hand shy. This is a regularly groomed dog who likely likes to be groomed.

    It is so sad to see poodles being changed by being parti. Not a real poodle!

    it is a real poodle. In fact most the original poodles were parti-color. The AKC conformation being "solid only" came from enthusiasts who preferred solid poodles to be the "standard." What's really sad about Parti poodles is the fact that this organization would go as far as killing dogs of this coat to cull their numbers just so there would be more solid colored dogs.

    Lol, could you imagine hunting with your dog in that haircut? Everyone else has their labs and hounds and your poodle has his ass shaved. Gorgeous dog but boy does that look dumb. He has obviously been groomed his entire life, so impressed with his attitude.

    Daniel K the parti color is as old as original poodles. There is nothing sad about it! AKC doesn’t allow partis to show, but it is a color that was bred together with the solids.

    reg profant That’s your opinion. I think it’s beautiful, and I think most knowledgeable people realize that a well groomed standard poodle is at the top when it comes to beautiful dogs. Most comments about the poodle look being ugly or stupid are uninformed or because of petty jealousy. There is no reason for a poodle not to look like a poodle!

    reg profant there's a specific reason they cut the hair like that. Since poodles were originally bred as retriever dogs, hunters took them on their trips. Later on they found out that the poodles hair would weigh them down when they went in to the water to retrieve birds. They cut all the way up to the end of the rib to protect its heart and kept it warm. They left the second half so the dog wouldn't get weighed down when it was swimming. The little fluff on their legs were to protect its joints. The two balls on either side were for the kidney. It doesn't look practical, I know, but it actually is.
