Why you should visit Mon Jam Thailand in 2024… and it’s NOT the views!
Mon Jam is a region in Northern Thailand named after Mon Jam Mountain. It’s an area known for its stunning views, glamping pods and fields full of purple flowers. It’s also well known by Thai tourists as the best day trip from Chiang Mai, thanks for the amazing 40km road trip you can take from the city centre… but none of these were the reasons I visited.
This region is also home to the infamous Mon Jam Go Karting aka Formula Hmong! A dangerous sport where wooden go karts are raced down the steep mountain slopes of the Mon Jam Mountain Chiang Mai. So when I was researching what to see in Northern Thailand - a Mon Jam go kart went right to the top of my list.
You can take a day trip from Chiang Mai to Mon Jam, but we chose to stay the night in one of the famous glamping pods. On the Chiang Mai road trip, we also explored some more local sights - including waterfall restaurants and a mountaintop adventure park.
