    Yes, that is correct Alung! This represents a reason why 'he blamed me' using 'breaking' as the noun form, meaning it describes the activity. Hope that helps!

    You're welcome! It depends on the context. Using 'for' would be correct in a context like this: 'Vegetables are good for you'. Using 'to' would be correct in a context like this: 'Does this taste good to you?' when describing perspective. Hope this helps you!

    We're glad you enjoyed the lesson! Good question. No, we cannot use 'admit us'. The action of 'admitting' something is happening 'to us' in the sentence, or directed 'to us'. Therefore, we need the 'to'. Hope this helps you!

    To me, Level 3 “Jogging is good for your health” is the most difficult as you said it is a fixed phrase and not to be really explained. And when I wrote the above sentence, I was not even sure whether I should write “to me” or “for me”?

    Hi, your video is so interesting and helpful, but I'm still get confused about reason and function. The woman said that the reason is why someone do something and you can only use for+noun, not for + ing. However on the man part, it was explained "she developed tools for analysing", and she is someone. In my opinion it shoud be only "she developed tools to analyze". Correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks in advance

  • @Oxfordonlineenglish1

    @Oxfordonlineenglish1

    Hi Rahman. Both can be correct. It depends on your perspective and the context. The first (tool to analyse) expresses the idea of why she developed the tool. The second (tool for analysing) expresses the idea that the only function of the tool is analysing data. It does not do anything else. So it depends on what you'd like to convey. Hope this helps you!

  • @Oxfordonlineenglish1

    @Oxfordonlineenglish1

    4 жыл бұрын

    Good question, Ravit. In this situation, 'to' is the preposition linked to 'forward', and this modifies 'looking'. We 'look forward to' nouns, and 'seeing' is the noun form of the activity here. For example: 'I look forward to speaking with you' and 'I'm looking forward to speaking with you' are correct. The rule you are thinking of applies to infinitives in the present simple. For example: 'I like to run'. Here, 'I like to running' would not be correct. Does that help?

    Hello! I have got another question, is correct to write this sentence "She was reluctant to admit us... ".You wrote "She was reluctant to admit to us..." my question is can I take away "to" between "admit" and "us"? Is it correct?

  • @Oxfordonlineenglish1

    @Oxfordonlineenglish1

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi Olivenbaum. It is correct to write: 'She was reluctant to admit to us...'. This means she was hesitant to disclose something to us. We need 'to' here. If you say 'admit + person,' that is different. If I 'admit someone' somewhere, that means I allow them to enter some place. Hope this helps you!

    Good question, Alexandre! 'Thanks for + verb + ing' is a phrase that is set, similar to phrases like 'Known for + verb + ing'. It helps to look at the way 'for verb-ing' can modify the verb or the noun in the sentence. The basic answer is: just remember phrases like 'thanks for watching' and 'she's known for golfing' are set. I watched the whole video and it didn't seem that hard, I made 1 mistake though. But when it comes to explain "why" it's to or for I don't really know the answer, I just know it. Is it a problem? If yes, how can I fix it?

  • @Oxfordonlineenglish1

    Hi Ale, it's good that you found the lesson less difficult. In learning, if you understand that something is correct and you can use it correctly, it's not necessarily important that you can explain 'why' it is that way. It can be helpful for some situations, but it is not absolutely necessary. As you progress and become more advanced, you can look at 'why' some aspects follow a certain pattern.

    I’m confused even more between use “ for function. You created this channel for teaching us. Does for indicate reason or function?

  • @Oxfordonlineenglish1

    @Oxfordonlineenglish1

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi Muhammad. A function is the only use of something, not a reason. For example, the reason we created this channel was to teach you. Therefore, we use 'to'. We use 'for' to indicate the only thing something is used 'for'. Example: 'This is the cup I use for coffee'. I don't use this cup for water, tea, milk, etc. It is used for coffee. Hope this helps you!
