If you are on a 6700K and a z-170 you shouldn't upgrade at all

You shouldnt upgrade because kaby lake is still in the 14nm transistor size just like skylake so there is a very minimal jump in performance that you most likely will not notice at all unless you are doing things that are very cpu intensive like video encoding and rendering and if you are it is more worth your time and money to upgrade to the x-99 platform with the cpu the best suits what you need there the i7-6800k is a better upgrade than the i7-7700k because you get more cores, threads, more pcie lanes, turbo boost 3.0 where kaby lake is still 2.0 (dont know why they did that). That is why you should not upgrade. If you have something other than an i7 lets say a skylake i5 I would recommend if you need more performance go for the same generation i7 so the 6700k or the 6700 unless your motherboard supports the new chipset then maybe go kaby lake since the price difference isnt too much

if you have the money to upgrade you should get the $600 m.2 drive that you can brag more about than a 5% increase in preformance, or a cool inwin case that you non-computer enthusiasts friends can treat like an abstract piece of art

Excellent presentation of the boards, very streamlined, great job Keys
Building my first (desktop) PC, glad to learn I have new options.
thanks for the info. I'm building a new system, don't care about the lights but 3.1 and will plug in a gtx 1070. Want speed for video editing. Generic sound is fine. Appreciate a recommendation.
Great video ... lots of good info!

Just purchased a Strix ROG z270-E, can't wait to get it! Will upload video of build once it gets here
Great review! The interviewer is funny! I learned a lot! Thanks for the video!
Still in 2017 and this vid seems out of date already! Scary how fast progress is in computerworld!
damn that was a good comparison! thanks Riley. looks like strix is the one to go for.
Building my first computer and I had to switch from a Z170 to Z270 because of Kaby Lake. Apparently the BIOS needs updated, but required a SkyLake processor to do it. Seeing as this is my first build, I don't have one sitting around. So after some exchanging, my Z270 is on it's way and will be running tomorrow
I'm actually building a low heat itx build after the fact that requires the use of Skylake to keep to the dissipation margins. Was wondering if there are any drawbacks to using a Skylake in the new Z270 platform. Most of the Z170s are refurbs at this point, and any new ones are ridiculously high
Thanks for the video. I would have a few questions. What changes from a motherboard "A" to a "P" or a "K"? I update the bios of a Z170 from usb? Starts with a Kaby lake processor last generation? Or do I have a Skylake? Benchmark with the same components, including Z170 and Z270. So it's only words. I'm really curious to see the real difference. I doubt you earn fps gaming, or reduce transfer times. Has anyone tried it and can confirm? Thank you and good luck.
Worth the upgrade from 4790K? Its started to get really hot and its the middle of winter in the UK. 11c in my room but hitting 100c+ at any type of load. delided and still the same. If its not the CPU, its the H110i GT cooler which only seems to bring temps down when pump is in performance mode...
Can we have the same detailed video for MSI Mobos please. In South African most shops sell mainly MSI boards.
Finally a video that shows the tiny LED details of the z270-a. I was starting to think it was a pigment of my imagination.
you didn't include any performance benchmark results from using a 7700k on a z170 vs a z270 ? I wanted to know this since I just got a 7700k kabylake.
forgive the noob question, but I havent built my own PC in years, and so I am way behind. As a part of my research and getting caught up, I am trying to understand Kaby Lake, Skylake, etc etc. What are they, whats different about them, etc.?? Thanks in advance!
thank you that helped some
BIG QUESTION???? I thought thermal paste was not a big deal because I just wanted to boot up and put together my PC. I got everything but the thermal paste (it was still in the mail). When I booted up, I got a blank screen with no Bios. My CPU error light started blinking after 30 seconds of waiting. LONG STORY SHORT I BURNED MY I7-7700K CPU AND Z-170-AR MOTHERBOARD!!! Do you think the warranty covers this?? Do you think that Microcenter will accept this if I tried to return it??
I wonder if the auto overclocking feature still overvolts?
If i'm keeping my 6700k and have a z170, would there be a point to switch to z270? Better overclocking? More M.2? Or would it be pointless?
But the socket is the same on both so you practically can use skylake on z270 . Right?
when will the extreme be coming out? i'm getting ready to build a new rig to replace my old x99/i5 setup
Will a Skylake CPU work in a Z270 motherboard and be compatible with the new Z270 features?
which one to pick.. Asus Prime Z270-A or Asus ROG Strix Z270H Gaming help! got i7 7700k
I upgraded from an AMD Athlon 64 5000 series at 2.6ghz(10 years old), so upgrading to a Z270x & a i7 7700k was a no brainer. I'm very happy with it indeed, and look forward to the optane memory. The RGB I'm not really sold on, but since it came with it I'll use my favorite color at least or keep it turned off since the significant other doesn't like it at all.
I've heard something about Cannonlake and being made at less costs, is it a budget Architecture or is it made for mobile devices?
I've just bought a z170 MOBO but thinking of just going with the newer kaby lake, question is, how the hell do i know if my mobo will support it. I currently have an msi sli pro z170
Is the left side of the screen, of the left mobo, is it blurry or just me?
Trying to figure out why the top end board does not get a backplate... interesting
What's the difference between the asus maximus ix formula vs the asus maximus ix code?
i bought a 6700k, but not the mother board yet, should i buy a z270, and hope that the 8th gen intel cpu, still are 1151 and have better improvement over the 7700k ? and can be use in a z270 ?
Im coming from an fx 6300 to an i5 7600k with the msi gaming plus z270 motherboard. I hope Ill see great improvements....
hey Man can you help me i just wanted to ask which chipset is better Z270 or Z370 the difference between the price of these 2 are not much?
I am replacing my broken MOBO and I'm asking myself a question : Should I go for a z270? I own a I7 6700k and I saw some z270 compatible mobo on pcpartpicker (Like the Asus Z270-K)
I build my first rig last week with the Z270E Gaming. Very solid mobo. Built-in AC Wi-Fi is nice. Love the reinforced PCIe slots too since I have a 1080 FTW, which is fairly bulky. ASUS's AISuite (hardware controls) program and BIOS are very user-friendly--super easy overclocking as well. Four clicks and my 7700k easily OC'd to a stable 4.9 GHz. Their fan optimization tool is great if you're really busy like me and don't want to bother with custom fan curves. The stock RGB options are tastefully done in my view as someone who likes RGB in reasonable amounts, and there are two headers at the top and bottom of the mobo for additional RGB outputs (like LED strips) if you prefer more. My cooler is a Hyper 212 EVO, and with this mobo, all four RAM slots can be filled with decent-sized heatspreader RAM without clearance issues (I am using 4x8 GB Corsair Vengeance LPX). Highly recommend
My Z170 board has gone to RMA and theyve returned me a Z270 board. I'm on skylake... will Optane work? Does it worth upgrading my 6700k to 7700k? I overclock a bit 4.6Ghz now, probably would do the same on kaby.
is a 6700k and a 1060 6gb okay with a z170 (i'm a noob with pc's)
Since i will be buying g4560 and i probably won't be oc any of my cpu in the future. I am upgrading from phenom II. Should i wait from the cheaper boards to be released or buy 100 board and ask someone to upgrade bios for me. Thanks.
does it make any difference in terms of performance between z170 7600k and z270 7600k ? Even if I am going to overclock ? Pls help.
When with Asus have the Asus extreme 9 out for z270 chip set?
Guys, please make a video on z170 mobo bios update for kabylake !
Those are some great looking boards.
i bought a 6700k and a budget motherboard as thats all the coin i had left at the time, can i get a 270 board for the 6700k? or better looking for a high end 170 on clearance or something?
Asus Z170 pro gaming/aura or Asus Prime Z270-A? Wich is better to a 6600k overclock and gtx 1070? The costs doesnt matter.
Im currently on fx 8000 series with am3 motherboard. Im looking to upgrade to 7600k should i get z170 or 270 motherboard?
Im currently running a overclocked i5 4690k on 4.5ghz on z97-a asus board. Is KabyLake that big of an upgrade?
I have an Asus Prime-a Z270 mobo with 7600k cpu. The Asus software caused a iopagesys64 (something like that) error. I had to remove the software.
im on a skylake cpu but i need a new board, my q is z170 or z270?
Currently have an i7-860, should I upgrade to the Kaby Lake i7-7700K?
how bout if want build a new rig, shuld i get z270 or just get z170??
Is it worth upgrading if I have a z170 board with an I5-6600k?
Im looking at upgrading my curent cpu is the i7 4790k is upgrading worth the cost?
Disliked the video because I have severe cerebral palsy.

Can i turn the RGB lights off, completely?
how is it for gaming ?
I'm currently on a Haswell Refresh Z97 based build, which is (sort of) Intel's last optimisation process technology. Kaby Lake would be the next optimisation process that I would be interested in getting if I was to do a new build soon (ignoring Zen/Ryzen). This, however, could be a problem for Intel, if people en mass decide to wait for the optimisation phase parts for their system upgrades, for the best, and most mature, technology for a particular processor/chipset generation, as in one that's the fastest (yet), with the best (so far) feature set, that's fully matured (as in fully supported with the original bugs worked out). That, and perhaps skipping a generation to get a real upgrade on your current optimisation phase system, rather than one that feels like an incremental one that's not really worth upgrading to from what you've currently got. For example, Sandy Bridge to Kaby Lake does kind of make sense, while Haswell Refresh to Kaby Lake doesn't anywhere near as much.
i want to buy motherboard for kaby lake, is it worth to buy a z270 other than asus prime z270a?
I'm upgrading my mobo from a mini itx to ATX. Will my 6700K work fine on a new Z270 mobo?
I found a Asus z170 Pro Gaming for about $110. which one should I get the i5 7600k or i5 6600k? Btw Im doing my first build
So i could run my i5 6600k chip on a z270?
Are there any reasons to pick a ROG Maximus instead of a TUF mainboard, if RGB and sound aren't important to me? I already own a soundcard and would like to upgrade from my i7-3930k, and I see no point in spending more for the ROG mainboards...

Just buy the Z270-A, it's basically the same card than the Strix and Maximus but without a fancy PCD and for 50 to 100 bucks less
...and here I am still using Sandy Bridge.

looking at the lower end and high end hardware....there's so little difference performancewise, a good middle-priced gaming rig will stand time just as easily. I'm in for a new build this year and, choices are actually hard to make...guess waiting is an option, then again, not sure if it will be worth the time...
still running a fx 8350 on an asus sabertooth 990fx/gen 3 r2.0, got it stable to 6 ghz
How do I change that on board rgb u cer my 270 prime?
I still have an H110, should I upgrade?
To be honest i had an P35 Motherboard it is an P5K-E Wifi And i had a Q6600.. I just upgrade to a Maximus IX Code and a 7700K it was not cheap.. This was the price of my full PC in 2009 just this to parts in here.. But im pretty happy it is like going from a Mini to an AMG 😊
wuts the highest end motherboard right now (plz dont answer with a question)?
can i use b250 instead of h270 with i5-7500
Hi guys, i have a i5 6500 and a b150m bazooka motherboard. I was wondering if i would upgrade this motherboard to a better one would affect performance? Does it give me better features?? I dont have much knowledge about this subject, could someone enlighten me?
i have a z170 kraitec 3x gaming with a i7 7700k ...should i switch to z270 ?
um not yet..just bought my rig 2 months ago..running on board vc =(
what if its your first build and you just want a GIGABYTE z270xp with an i5 6600k. is it a bad match up as in performance?
I have i5 4690k, r9 380. Should I upgrade?
Got the Prime along with a 7700k for my first build :)
Can u have a skylake 6600k to a Z270 motherboard ?
Damn cool that armor motherboard!
so when i have asus z170 pro gaming and i5-6600 and i want buy i7-7700k i should upgrade my motherboard to z170. Sorry but i dont speak English very well.

Are skylake CPUs compatible with Z270?
Ive used asus maximus boards for years, maximus V gene and a maximus VI ranger = my mom pc, and current a maximus VII hero, All damn good OC boards etc.... never had a bad board.
what if you're using OEM version of Windows?
I'd go with Kaby Lake over Skylake just for the nicer MOBOs tbh. These boards look great!
nope not a chance, ive held out on my 8320 and GOSH DARNIT IM WAITING FOR AM4 IVE WAITED THIS LONG I CAN WAIT A LITTLE LONGER!
I know Asus offers work station grade motherboards for x99 but which is best for workstation on z270? I'm guessing tuf.

tuf is meant for productivity and durability. if you want more info on them you should watch pauls hardware where he discusses the asus mobo's with an asus representitive.
Sorry but i just want the answer its should upgrade? (Yes or not) I have i7-7700k with z170a Im not good at listening english just wanna know that Ita running but i notice stutter sometime and fps drop and we checked everything on other mother board but there everything worked well.without stutter or fps drop :/
Is the i5 6600k (skylake) compatible with the new Z270 chipset?
