I miss the intros of the older titles like MH4U and MHGU. Band of hunters going out and hunting down monsters. It made so hype to start playing the game. I wish they brought them back.

Also the scoutflies are a massive help in navigating the game. They highlight harvestable areas and collectible endemic life. When you first hunt a large monster, you'll need to collect tracks and other such stuff the monster leave behind, collect enough and the scout flies will literally guide you towards the monster you're looking for. Really makes you feel like a hunter.

As a vet to the series, World is one of the best, if not the best, especially to start. It let's you know Capcom set the bar high for themselves, this game, and the genre of boss bashing in this style and they keep soaring over that bar, causing it to naturally lift itself higher and higher. World was such an insane evolution to the series. It revolutionized it with zoneless zones (used to be load screens per numbered section).
World is the most accessible in the series as it is on so many different platforms and has the easiest guide in. 4U still on of the best overall MH experiences though

What got me into monster hunter games is the spin offs(monster hunter stories 1 and 2) the I went to Monster Hunter Rise and went to Monster Hunter 3 ultimate and finally Monster Hunter World:Iceborne
I started with world without even knowing what to do or what monster hunter was,all I knew is I have a sword and gotta kill the giant monsters
“Every map feels like a whole new world” dude I could measure the Elder’s Recess in micrometers 💀
World was my introduction to the series and i will always recdomend it before rise as an intro. The zones felt more organic and invasions were terrifying. Anjanath for a new player feels like an invincible monstrosity when he first appears during hunts to torment you while fighting monsters like pukei, in fact its such a tyrant that killing it feels amazing, in fact it instills a thrilling sense of invincibility. Monsters seeming to earn their name really well. Plus greatsword feels heavy and good to hit true charged slash with. While i love rise, some weapons feel weightless. Monsters are faster and unforgiving and when a monster comes to invade its more like a free ride for extra damage, in some cases bieng a genuine nuisance. In fact ive had riding disrupt fights and combos more often than clutch staggers ;-; Dont get me wrong. I love rise for what it is, but i honestly love world more. I initially wanted to say it was graphics or immersion. Yet when i tried GU i realised i prefer the more grounded, slower fights. Wirebug makes weapons feel very floaty for me and i miss the visceral crunch of greatsword massively. The monsters in GU yet again feel more notorious and horrifying than they do in rise by a longshot. I also prefer two palicos over a palamute. World and gu are more fun to travel around in without a riding dog or wirebug, and thats not because im bad with mobility. I also know some players of rise who got into high rank not even knowing how wirebug skills work ;-; my final point why i prefer world and gu is how much more... Notable my companions are. While i appreciate my palicos bewm bewm and carami having a kittenator that annihilates fights. I enjoyed the journey in world of getting bewm bewm the ability to "bewm" meowcano utterly annihilates enemies and seeing my palico run around like a maniac with a gun cart amuses me still, more so since i spent time to earn it. In gu my Carami and bewm are total fiends with explosive kleptomania. My careful prep of making them fiends paid off truly. In short. Would reccomend world Then GU. Then rise

Actual been having my best "experience" so far with Monster Hunter Now on the phone... lol I need Monster Hunter buddies to help guide me in the other games! I play on Xbox, Switch, Mobile and can eventually dust off the 3DS/PSP/Vita for those entries.

World is the only way to go seeing the direction the newer games are going.
I started on 3 Ultimate, but it wasn't till World came out that I could fully learn how to play. Now I can enjoy and appreciate Rise, and the older games being a solo Lancer. :)
Me who started with world: hehe fun pain
I have so many hours in MHW and I am still finding random minor areas that I didn’t even know existed
This is the first and only monster hunter i ever played, now i can't wait for the next one to come out
Just finished the base game credits about a minute ago. Love the game, honestly has to be the most thrilling game I own
I was really overwhelmed when i played world, u started with it and the investigations to progress the story and getting lost in the maps made me stop playing even tho it was neat, just too much to take in as a new player. But rise was really really easy to get into and i played that a ton and its what enabled me to play the older games including world
I wish i could lose my muscle memory just to learn it all again
Generation for old gen World for new gen Rise is something in between no matter where you start, you gonna have a great time
I started with mhfu and still playing mhfu today
MH3U was my first. Imo any Monster Hunter game is easy to start off with.
In terms of tier, Rise/sunbreak is in the middle, its super user friendly, easy to pick up and most of the hunts you can knock out first attempt. World is top as it has a low entry level but gradually gets harder as you get further in requiring you to think, its a good middle grouns betweem new gen hunters and old gen, Ultimate is definite bottom tier for user friendliness but provides a fun and invigorating challenge, you will never forget the thrill that is destroying the glavenus for the first time or getting good at Arial and counter styles.
The thing about GU is that is not meant for new player with so much hunter arts. World is more new player friendly due to its approach towards traditional hunts no special skill etc Rise is more GU mixed with world. Other series you have to put alot of effort to play it since you need an emulator.
Although I don't like some parts of this game, this is most probably the best opus to use as an introduction point. One of my friends started here, and he showed me that he was a beast. He mains the IG on land AND in the sky, then later went gun-ho with the LBG (I brought him to emulate and play with me FU, and he was still great with his LBG)
Personally i like world not just because i started with it but because it shows us another side to the monsters how they interact with there environment beings them to life even more
I started with the MH Stories spinoffs. It made the difficulty of MH mainline series easier to handle.
I thought i was just so bad at the A.Forest because sometimes when i do a quest i get lost very often, there is one time I cant beat the Rathalos because i dont know where TF is the road to get there Now i feel a lot better
My first unironically was infact world lol

Same! Went backwards and forwards from old and new games from there 🙏
that 16 lobby when kulve was first introduced in world; it's like teamwork and racing combined. who broke what part first, who killed it first, yet the WHOLE lobby benefits... then RNG hits and you and the lobby have to do it all over again 😢😂🤣
i start playing FU/2G last year, then P3rd and now Rise:Sunbreak
I think that World is the best way to get someone into the franchise because before World came out I've tried playing FU five times and that hasn't gone anywhere.
I’m about to start playing monster hunter world actually, and I rlly wanna see how different it is to Horizon: Zero Dawn. Hope I can have a fun time.
I started playing this series on Playstation 😅😅😅😅 being hooked ever since...and khezu still freaks me out😢
I started with monster hunter stories two cause of little accessibility for earlier games and am bad at the dark souls like fighting games. But stories is really fun
MH world was my first monster hunter and it was an amazing experience although I had a rougher time cuz I didn't any side quests or much grinding
My first was Monster hunter 3 ultimate on the Wii U
I literally start with mh1 2nd to last MH Rise lastly MH World. In short i played the whole franchise 😊
I started my hunting life with normal generations then I moved to 4u the stories the stories 2 then just today I started rise!
quick question. which should i get : MHW base or MGHU? since both have same price when sales happen. i play Mh3rd,MHtri until ceadeus, and sunbreak last TU.
Me who spends an additional 8 days grinding out the parts I need for a 2% attack up. "P A T H E T I C!"
My friends introduced me to world and iceborne and i am so thankful its such an incredible game
I started on monster hunter three then freedom ultimate, then 3 ultimate, so in my experience i can totally say that old monster hunter is not a great or even ok start point i still have traumas about weird hitboxes and those freaking wyvern eggs XD
My first true start to the series was also mhworld, and i fell in love with it. I tried getting into it with mh4u, but i just couldnt get into it as world. But if it wasn't for world i wouldnt be the mega fan i am.
Dont forget to mention the "trying to hold on to life" servers world has
I can confirm. World is perfect for beginners: it’s very friendly, not to complicated, and the players are nice
The water is not fine it's humbling but fun
I feel like an old man who is slowly dying and can barley hit what he is swinging at.
3000 Hour and i still don't know where im at when im in the guiding land
i dont get lost at all in the forest. its my element
I love this series. After World and Rise I hope people go and try the old titles. The 2 portables, Freedom Unite and P3rd still hold up very well.
Having played just about every MH game, World is far and away my favorite entry in the series.
I got introduced to mh by a ytber i liked in the past. My first mh game i played is mh portable 3rd on an emulator and after that i played mhw and the dlc after getting my console at the start i sucked so bad in mhw because it was so different from the past game was fun though and still is
I'm glad I'm not the only one who still gets lost in the forest
I started my MH journey with Freedom Unite on psp
That how I started
I'm just going to say this: Started with World, liked it. Played Rise, it's okay. Went back to play MonHun Portable 3rd. The new games are so damn hand-holdy and feel good and just.. they're so easy. You carry the capability to extract ores with you everywhere. There's no need for bugnets or fishing bait, there's never a need to jump out and actively go on an expedition because you're given mountainloads of resources from the get go. I know it's not an actual reason to argue that the older games are better (especially gameplay wise, the hunting is just weird and very simple with weapon movesets.) but I kind of like having extra little bits to do between my major hunts. Look for specific ores but before doing so, pack my inventory full of goods for the climate, tools and equipping the right armorset to get more items from gathering spots or to gather them quicker. I kind of REALLY like the feel of the old games. MHGU is just as enjoyable with it's need to kind of go gather resources, but we did get prowlers to make gathering easier, but it's still pleasant! It's a break from all the stressors of the games!
As someone who just started a fresh Monster Hunter World save, please go and play it! Use the Guardian stuff if you want or use the base game gear, just have fun!
I’m literally fatalis (I’m dead asf from the armor)
In my honest opinion, the best option its MHP3rd. Any device can move it, it has the basics of a Monster Hunter, so much Monsters, and with doing all the village quests you did pretty much the 95% of the Game, leaving Monsters like Akantor, Ukanlos, Alatreon, Amatsu, and some subspecies to do.
I absolutely love to play world and help others
MH is my favourite game series since 2006, and MH world is by far the best MH game
What a coincidence, I have all 3.
As someone who's been a devoted Monster Hunter fan since Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate My recommendation for starting is World. Don't get me wrong, I love 3 Ultimate and 4 Ultimate, but they have an immense difficulty curve that may scare away new players to the series. On the Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate demo, I'm not sure I was ever able to successfully take down one monster, just due to how hard the game was for me (admittedly, a child at the time). World has much smoother gameplay and is much, much more forgiving than the games before it. There is even the Defender armor and weapons which are intended to help make the early game much, much easier.
I’d always suggest the older games first, so new players can learn the ropes and all the little things you have to do like paintballs and hot/cold drinks before moving to new ones like world and rise where they lose some of those mechanics and add new ones
Monster Hunter Tri was my first. I still play it on the Wii
MHW Combat: Slow and Sluggish MHR Combat: Stylish Graphics and Immersiveness goes to world. Combat is superior in Rise and yeah played both up to Iceborne Expansion. Subreak underrated and more fun tho.
My friends got me hooked on this game so much that I finished main story and started iceborn just so I could join them at master ranks xD But the climb there was fun
Not only is it the beat place to start, its probably the best one in the series
There is nothing much too hate. The amount of content they gave is so worth it, the gameplay is amazing, and best of all the memories I made hunting with my friends. Totally no regrets getting this game.
Mh4u will always have my heart it was the beginning of something amazing 😅
World became my first game in the series, and I don’t regret anything The best graphical component... yes, real hunters know that the beauty is not in the graphics, but how can you not admire the palicos and monsters? (and I didn’t even touch on the detailing of the equipment, where armor from one monster has up to 5-6 variations with minor changes) Amazing gameplay - in Rise it has become more casual, albeit more variable, and in World you need to squeeze out maximum knowledge and skills just to survive The smallest details (not without bugs, of course), which allow you to feel the atmosphere and cruelty of the world of Monster Hunter And finally, the food preparation animation is simply amazing, and the food itself... a snack before the hunt is the key to success.
What monster hunter did you guys start with🤔? I started on mh3u
