Be very careful with land purchases such as this. Many people find clouds (errors) on the title as the “developers” from another state often don’t dot their “i’s” and cross their “t’s” when cutting it up to sell. Years later an owner of such a postage stamp type property in the wilderness finds either someone else claiming ownership or a local government entity claims past unpaid taxes, etc. I wish them well. In my view they are living a harder life than they present. Hauling 275 gallons of water per week is no easy task, for instance.

Yes, very good point, Don, I even put a disclaimer in the description by the property links. I don't think the water getting process is too bad. People need to be creative these days, and this is a good option, especially for folks who don’t have a million dollars to retire on. I like the privacy and the familiarity of this way of living, they always know their final destination. I wish them well!

Don, your statements are absolutely correct. Purposely omitted terms from these type of land contracts are just as alive today as they were in the 60’s & 70’s, in the heyday of absentee land deals in the western states primarily. Also agree on the water hauling. I’m 70 yrs and I have done that water hauling in the early days of my vacation prop on San Juan island and I’m not interested in ever doing that again, significant work!

I agree with what Don says , most townships have rules and regulations on what you can and can’t do . Dwellings on property such as RV’s , mobile homes , septic allowed whether a permanent dwelling versus RV. One may get by for a short time until local authorities check up on your property.

Beware in Florida as there are only a few counties where you can live off grid in a camper.

In Canada, land is way more expensive but we managed to find a 100x100 lot about 50 minutes away from the city in a small village where we can leave our 42' RV with all the amenities but it's our land. We are retiring in 2023 so will be living there in the summers and hopefully find cheap land in Florida for the winter. We are stationary so we would have to find another smaller RV to leave on our eventual piece of land in Florida. We are very early 60's so this would be our lives for at least 15 years hopefully, it this crazy world doesn't come to an end before! We purchased an acre of land 20 yrs ago and have parked an rv on it all that time. We had electric ran in from the road and put in a well. We aren't allowed septic so have to use a tote and dump at the campground 1/2 mile away. When we want travel we hook up and travel. Over the years the local town has threatened to outlaw the use of rv's. But so far we have been lucky it never passes. Lately it had become more of a common practice to park an rv on land as a home base. We purchased a truck camper 6 years ago and use that for traveling around the country now instead of our 38 ft jayco destination trailer. We even put up one of those intex swimming pools on our land. The lake isn't far either to take the boat out on. Thanks for your video's. They are always informative and interesting.

Nope. Not for me. I'd be okay for a few weeks, but not longer. I'm by myself. I'd go completely insane.

We've been living fulltime and offgrid for 8 years and 4 months. We never pay for a place to BE and I maintain we *never* will! Our water consumption is closer to 50 gallons a week and we carry a 50-gallon drum on our truck 24/7. If we go to town for any other reason, we fill up that drum while we're there and transfer to our house tank as needed. Here at our compound at The Slabs (3 miles east of Niland, CA), we discharge our graywater immediately to the nearby landscape. For blackwater, I built my own "gopher hole" using a plastic trash can (holes in the bottom) and some concrete around it to keep the sand from imploding on the plastic can. We have a 4" ABS riser (sewer slinky fits inside) so we can unscrew the plug and dump our tank = easy breezy. :) For the summer months we migrate north and west to higher elevations and boondock for FREE in various places. In this ways, we spend very little for heat and zero for air conditioning. :) Learn more at our FB group = Extreme Low Budget RV Living. :)

I would love to purchase an acre or so to live full time in my RV. Personally I would invest in a well and septic system. The solar setup seems perfect. An acre seems excessive but it allows for a garden! Safe Travels Liz!

Liz. Very interesting story about owning your own property to park your RV. I think this is probably a great option for a lot of RV'ers. Personally, I prefer community over isolation. That's what makes the world go round, we are all different. Give me campgrounds and RV parks that provide an opportunity to connect with others that share a similar passion to be outdoors.

I live off grid here in AZ. Though not in an RV but a double wide mobile home now. I have 10 acres with a well. My well water is pumped in to a 500 gal tank by solar. My pressure pump (large 12 volt RV pump) pulls it out of the tank and pressurizes the house. I currently have 2000 watts of solar and it charges my battery's daily to run through a inverter to 120 volts. I have a 100 gallon propane tank which I fill about once a year to run the house furnace, instant hot water heater and stove. I am never short of power except summer when I run AC here. I am planning to double my solar to 4000 watts that way I can use electric heat to heat the house in the winter during the day and run AC during summer. My foot print is larger than a RV but the process is all the same. I just don't like living in my motorhomes (yes I have 2) full time. I have one here and one in WA state where I spend the summers . I live 4 miles from town so not isolated.

@@duanehevly I have a house on 5 acres in Battle Ground WA which we have lived there for 20+ years. I want to sell my WA house as it is expensive to live there, but battling my wife over it. In AZ I live in Bouse as it costs me almost nothing in taxes and I have no utility bills. I would live here year round but wife hates the desert. She stays in WA and I spend 9 months in AZ. I have health issues to where I can't deal with the wet and cold weather so I leave WA. Here in AZ there is plenty of sun to make power and now solar is affordable.

Liz, Me and my brother are doing something similar. We are currently looking for property in New Mexico, Arkansas, Idaho, Texas. Our plan is to purchase small to 1 acre sites. And develop the too. Have a couple of RV pads on the with full hookups. He is the Senior Building official in his local city. So we know about building codes and covenants and restrictions. The big thing is allways purchase through a title insurance company, also check with the county so you know the codes and restrictions. And make sure you have access to the property. Don't buy a piece of landlocked and have no access. We like the high desert and trees. We currently have complete plans for off grid power supply. Liz that is what we are going to do . First six months we will be living in northern WI , we have 1 acre property with electric . Water is 2 miles away , but we have a above ground 250 gallon waste tank which will be pumped . Winter home is the same in Mayo Florida.😀

Hi Theresa, I think they just relax and enjoy life as well as enjoy their pets. Plus the off grid life is a bit more hands on so I'm sure he's always checking the inverter, cleaning off the solar panels, that sort of thing. I met them at their place in Florida but know them originally from being on the A-Team (subscribers to this channel). Thanks for being here!

I've always thought it would be fun to have a few places like this, but only to live maybe a month at a time at. I know Wendy could not handle the remoteness full-time. But what stopped me from even considering it seriously is that I was under the impression that there were very few places (that weren't super-remote) where you were allowed to camp on your land.

It sounds like there are plenty of places where you can indeed camp on your land. Definitely do the research bc you want to be sure that you can live there in an RV, are not pressured to build, and a host of other things to research. It's interesting that people live like this. Thanjs. Gave me ideas of how to live where i am without water. I have given up on trying to get water. It is time to figure out how to turn my cabin into RV life. If RVs can run a washer, how can i get my washer to work without well water. I gave barrels of nearly frozen water on my porch. I need a better way. I do not think i can go solar because no sun in winter, but that water and composting toilet might work, but i heard they are pricey. Thanks, Liz! Great new ideas.

Interesting for maybe when we're at the stage in life of taking a lot of naps. Maybe for someone who works on a computer full time. Seems maybe lonely??? Good idea though if you need a home base in a pinch and just change with the weather. I think to keep getting the hubby out there with me it'll still be seeing the sights and traveling. Just recently got him out for a 10 day trip and he loved it. Working up to 2 weeks. BTW, you looked very pretty today so single life must be going well.

I checked out the Watergen stuff. Their RV/mobile unit will do up to 13.2 gallons per day. This guy would need more than that - maybe one of the bigger non-mobile options Watergen offers.

that's some very expensive water, the technology isn't new, all they are is a dehumidifier which is nothing more than a portable air conditioner were the evaporator and condenser are in the same room, these water generators just collect the condensate. they cost as much to run as a big RV air conditioner and don't work well in dry climates

You absolutely cannot compare land prices between Lake County where you live to what I believe is Putnam County Florida! Putnam County has the unique position as the poorest county in Florida! It's in North Florida below Jacksonville, one county away from the Atlantic. Land there is still pretty cheap because it's so ugly! This type of land is called "scrub" land and I'm sure you can see why. Personally it's too bleak looking for me but they appear to have everything they need to winter here and that's what counts.

You would have trouble with the local authorities in Australia if you tried to do this, especially anywhere close to a town. Some try to live in a caravan while building a house, but the easiest way to be allowed, is to build a shed with toilet, shower and septic system first. The yearly taxes (we call them rates) would be around $1000, and the initial purchase way more than what you quoted, you would be extremely lucky to find a very isolated small piece of land for $20,000. A good idea to move between 2 climates, it would work in Australia too, just cost a lot more, and I would like to be closer to a small town.

This is way hardcore for me. I guess they should enjoy it as long as they can. The isolation and the heat would make me miserable. Did he give you any of the bottom line costs of each location? I am looking for the total cost of everything he has purchased. For just one example, The water may not be any cost to him but going and getting it does, fuel and everything associated with the vehicle. The container for hauling cost him to purchase, probably. And I’m sure there are other things I haven’t thought about with water. Like sanitizing, filter for drinking water. The reason I mentioned drinking water I purchased a ProOne filter system and got away from buying bottled water. It will eventually pay for itself butt I will need another filter in 8 months which adds to the cost.

Very interesting video Liz, It's cool that they were able to find property in Florida with very little deed restrictions, but I question the $20 taxes, better add another 0 to that. Seems like he could of put in shallow well and stop the need for hauling water. We also have a setup something like this, we have a condo on the water in Key Largo, Florida that is our winter residents and we have 2.76 acres in Southern Alabama that is our summer residents. This property sits on a 800 acre private lake and has no deed restrictions and is totally off grid. There was a well and septic system all ready in place when we bought the property so that saved some money. We're running 4000 watts of solar that more than covers our needs, but also have a few gas generators as backups. We cook on propane as well the hot water system is a propane setup. We're living in a 24 foot camper trailer with a slide-out plus we added a screened in room the whole length of the trailer. We also added two fairly good size storage sheds. It's not perfect, but it's home. The 6 months were away from our condo in Key Largo, we keep it rented out as a weekly vacation rental at $5000 a week. It amazes me that people are willing to pay that much for a vacation in the Florida Keys, but we are not complaining......

Wow, it sounds like you have a great setup year round!! Alabama has SO much to do and I love Key Largo! That's awesome you can get $5k a week for it. And I have no idea about the $20 a year in property taxes. It might be the way the land is zoned. The Florida property cannot be built on and is too small of a road frontage to even get mail. In ELKO Nv you can live in. A Rv. On your land any more. But you can stay a few week with their ok but you must go to ELKO and talk to them firsthand. A must!, lots of rules in ELKO and wells, Montello all so . Ck befor you buy or you will get big fines for not fallowing the rules out here.

Glad it works for then but not the type of lifestyle I would want. I also have a sticks & bricks that I spend 4 to 5 months a year at. While I'm gone I mostly boon-dock or use dispersed camping on the national forest. I prefer to travel so staying put on a tiny piece of land doesn't appeal to me.

You really are branching out 😄. This guy is exactly why our property in Texas came with a deed restriction prohibiting permanent manufactured housing, mobile homes and/or RV trailers AND I was completely ok with it. Would you want to own the lot next to this guy?

In NV their are rules for you dumping on your land? In my Nv land I must have a free standing poop to go to a tank then have it pumped out. But living out here on my 650 Ac for shure .power is only by solar and wind. To bring power is over 650,00 for lines to your land? So wind and solar are the best way only.

Okay Liz, are you reading my mind? LOL Last week you reminded me to get my tires checked. This week you are talking about cheap land. I have been online looking at land in Elko NV. I mean I was probably looking at neighboring lots next to this guy. It does two things, if I have land there then I can domicile in NV who has no income tax. My kids and family are all in California, but I can't live in California because of asthma and fire season. Also, summer in NorCal is in the 100s. YUCK! Nevada therefore will be a general state that I will be passing through all the time, so even if I decided to not spend one summer there, I would be passing through, and could spend some time in the state. That way, Georgia and California can't claim I owe them taxes on my income, because I will be returning to my domicile state regularly. That can be a thing, a Michigan couple was domiciling in SD and Michigan sued them and the couple lost and had to pay 3 years of income taxes to Michigan because the only time they were in SD was when they got their licenses. Therefore, Michigan was able to state that they were still Michigan residents. Now I realize that is probably a rare case and that this couple must have had a huge income, such that Michigan wanted to keep getting their taxes. But being autistic I must do things correctly. So, Texas was out, and Florida and South Dakota because I didn't want to HAVE TO return to those states every year. Honestly, Florida was out because the vehicle insurance in Florida would be outrageous. SD is just too far away on years I don't want to travel a bunch. I am autistic, so there will be years I don't want to. Also, by having land like that then I can have friends come to see me who are FT RVrs and hang out. I over analyze everything, but that is my autism. I also research every topic down into the tiniest details to make sure I won't have any surprises. Yep, my fun on travel days must be planned in, because I can't just decide to get off a highway to see some small fun thing to see.

You can if you have enough solar and enough sunny days. People I've met camping in Quartzsite with plenty of solar say they run their generators less than a day a month. Thanks for watching.

You have to be very careful buying land because there are laws from county or states that will not allow you to park a rv on the lot without having a permanent building (house) on the property.
