Should You Play with SHORT PIMPLE RUBBERS? | Table Tennis | PingSkills

Спорт

Make sure to check out our website at www.PingSkills.com - In this video we will discuss the differences between Inverted and short pimple rubbers. We will also cover the advantages and disadvantages of short pimple rubbers. Some of the advantages are that the ball travels lower and flatter over the net and that having one rubber short pimple and one rubber inverted provides variety making it more difficult for your opponent.
Thanks for watching! We love making table tennis videos and hope they'll help you understand the game of table tennis. Make sure you subscribe to keep up with our latest videos.

In North America university teams, table tennis is often co-ed. I remember playing against another school's women players who used short pips... those backhands were so fast!

I wish I'd seen this video a few years ago because it's exactly what I'd slowly worked out for myself. I just put on my first decent short pips and can already tell it's going to help my game immensely. (Penhold with short pips just on forehand, inverted for RPB on backhand, and love to crowd the table.

What you failed to mention is that short pimples absorbs spin much better, so blocking is easier, smashing a push is easier, and answering the serve is easier. These are very basic things you somehow missed.

Having tinkered with hardbat and pips in general, I really like short pips (with sponge). Something quite raw and nostalgic. Remember, the game was all pip out, in previous eras. As for playing, they are certainly more unforgiving, as one has to get that bat angle right, or else it wont work. However if you turn up on the day, and are 'on the button' with your angles and footwork... devastating !!!!!! Nothing hits as well as a crisp pip shot 😃

I think you missed important advantages especially for intermediate players. Short game and backspin attack opening is easier because an usual pips out rubber is less incoming spin sensitive. So service receive is easier especially aggressive receive. As you feed less spin into the game you give less spin and power for the opponent to play against you.

Thanks. I´ve tried short pimples on my weaker forehand but that was no fun. Once you´re used to the inverted rubbers you can´t just switch. It takes lots of training session to get used to the pimple style and even more to apply the benefits under pressure to the league matches. That´s because you´ll have to built new synapses in your brain and that takes time as anyone knows who has ever changed a habit.

I just started playing again after more than a year (at least). Before I had stopped playing, I had experimented with medium/short pips - Friendship 563. I didn’t really know how to use it - but I had taken one lesson. I was told that the pips game is to stay in closer to the table, looking to control play with consistent backhands (with the pips), until I get an opportunity to finish the shot off with a powerful forehand. I didn’t really get a chance to execute it, though. However, when I started playing with the pips this weekend - I decided to use a different strategy regarding the pips. I am now using the pips on my forehand side, as my forehand can go awack easily. I feel that my backhand is actually my better, more consistent shot. Therefore, the thinking now is to use the pips on the forehand side - in order to take spin away from my opponent and hit through the ball flatter. I also like how I don’t have to have the perfect angle to counteract the spin - for example, I can open my racquet more than I otherwise would have been able to and still be able to get the ball on the table (and it comes through flatter - making it more difficult for my opponent who may not be expecting it). The idea now is for me to continue to hang in there with these forehands, which otherwise would have been my weaker shot (resulting in errors/mis-timings, etc.) and get the opportunity to hit some backhands and hit/block the ball; get on top of the ball and loop it back - which is a more natural shot for me; or even chop under it… just a lot more comfortable doing those on that side, especially since I don’t have to move as much.

Hello pingskills Now yesterday I lost six games in a row in vr to a player whose style I haven’t played much I don’t know whether it was blocker or short pimpled rubber. But here is what happened He was having very spinny sidespin backspin and sidespin topspin serve very deceptive and quick. Both from his backhand. Both were short serve. And i could not returned the ball backspin with my racket completely open still felt as if when i am touching the ball there is not much impact it just hits the racket goes into the net and topspin off the table where I would just gently touch it. And then there was flat fast serves with his backhand which i think skids when bounced at my side. It was so fast that he indicated which end he will serve still i missed the ball. And the first bounce of serve was at his end of the table from the ball just shoots off i can barely follow the ball. The guy was short in height may be was some child. I decided to move back and chop but he was smashing the return because of the height. And my backhand topspin far from table to his backhand was punched badly before I could get back to position.

@xxx0ox0 hahah! I'm glad someone asked that after 1 year. Well, a lot of things happened when I put the short pimples. At first it was a disaster and everyone was telling me how broken my game has become and I made the worst decision in my life. All of my balls were going into the net because that's what happens when you switch from inverted rubber to pimples since the pimples don't have big bounce or spin. But I still continued to play with them, hoping I would get better. And with the time I was getting more and more used to them, and I ended up winning my FIRST MEDAL EVER! 😁 (It was bronze, but it was a good start for me) And then I went on a more advanced tournament and won a SILVER MEDAL! Which is something I was never able to do with the inverted rubber. My backhand definitely became better, but I still couldn't feel the pimples very well because my racked was made for inverted rubber and it was too fast for the pimples. So I bought wood specially made for short pimples and anti-spin and from that moment my technique got a lot better, I could finally feel the pimples and just for 1 year my backhand technique with the pimples became so much better than my technique with the inverted rubber for 6 years. I am able to do a lot more wins and play a lot better than before. I was even able to make some debut at the International Youth tournament. So I can say it went really well after I put them. I just have trouble with lifting the backspin balls and doing counterattacks, but I still have a long way to learn, and I am not sorry I made that choice.

How does long pips on backhand work for penhold? I am a penhold inverted attacker and my backhand is hard enough to control with inverted since the angle is very closed, I can't imagine trying to open the angle enough to block or chop with long pips! I have tried short on forehand though and like it a lot for close to the table blocking and thirdball smashed and flicks, but inverted is so much more versatile away from the table, looping is so deadly and fun I don't think I could permanently switch to short unless I get old and can swing arms as much

@@bryanwells4063 well I actually twiddle my bat, which I would generally do before the opponent serves, but I can also twiddle during a rally as well. The only time I'd really use the LP while still in RPG is if I'm caught out wide on my FH. I can actually chop with the LP at that point as well. I really love twiddling and using the LP off a service return, it catches a lot of people out. I know what you mean with the SP having to play close to the table, but I use max Moristo SP on my FH so I can actually get in to looping rallies at a distance as well. I have a small disability that makes spinny loops hard for me to make, so I use short pimple on my forehand instead of inverted. I sometimes also use it on my backhand for blocking and attack. A small tip for short pimple users, use the short pimples on the red rubber, because red rubber can be a tiny bit less spinny because of the red coloring mixed in with the rubber, so the inverted rubber should be black. The difference is marginal but every advantage adds up.

What do they mean by "stroking ball " ? Perhaps, "brushing ball" ? This would be true I guess of short pip as it needs a solid connection, rather than a brush to get the angle right for being effective. As for warming up, do they mean not revealing the pips side, but rather play the knock up with reverse, before the match ? This way the pip player can reveal the pip side in match, creating the variation to win points. 😄
