I love this little series. I don't want it to end.
I really hope you continue this series up to about $250k

Same here, I'm probably looking at a 50 footer with one owner which needs a overhaul after 10-15 years.
Research Island Packets pre 1998. Chain plate and holding tank issues. Pre ‘98 are cheaper because you’ll have to sink some money in them. Both those projects can be costly.
Some day I’ll look back at this series and tell people that it was what first convinced me to find our first boat. At some point you should revisit all of these price points though for me it’s the 50k - 60k. You can’t help but attract viewers.
Funny thing about these videos is that you can have all the comfort and performance from a 30k boat up to a million dollar boat. I own, race, cruise an Alberg 37 out of Cape Cod. I race a J121. When I am on my A37, the handling is so much easier even if it’s definitely more of an old school ride. The J121 may get there before me, but I invested less than 10% of his and I doubt it’s 10x a better experience.
Man I love the Island Packets. Wanted to buy one in the 100k range. Of course everyone said they were slow but when fast is still below 10 knots. I finally decided against the sail boat and bought a high performance twin engine airplane. Yes its older but fully restored and its faster, way faster. So someday I will get that Island Packet but I will be able to fly down and visit in the Bahamas. Well that's the dream anyway.

Awesome.... Sounds like my dream too...
Love this series! Thanks so much.
LOVE this stuff... Keep it coming... 💪❤
Well done. Very. No further words needed. Thank you very much.
I love watching and learning about your insights on boats... One day!
IP's are Beige in color to keep sun reflection down. True, IP's are not racers, but hands down, one of the strongest/safest & comfy cruisers!
New theme: Cruisers OR Racers! I just had dinner with a fine lady freshly returned from her East Coast Yacht Club. She told me about the world of difference between the two cultures. . . and boats. So take that thought to the boat show.
Great video! I was enjoying it very much and I thank you for your opinion at the end :)
We're coming up on Valiants and Passports and I can't wait.
Great series!
I agree with most of how you break down the different categories..however, I’ve owned an island packet and a Taiwanese built vagabond 42’…the island packet does not stand up to the quality of interior finishes by any stretch…cabinetry, cabin sole, etc…they use very cheap plastic lamps and fans, and other very cost cutting measures , and are still one of the pricier of production models…they are very solidly built and are very comfortable…they are not performance oriented and are very spacious below decks relative to their linear foot class…with this said , I’d still buy one, but plan to upgrade many things that I find to be unacceptable for this price point of yacht…for me, it’s not the kind of yacht that stirs the passion and love of a yacht that I seek, but still gets the job done very well indeed…it’s the closest thing to choosing a girlfriend that I can think of…
Did I just see a csy44 🥺❤️😍

Yep. Ours!
I bought a Tayana 55 for a 100 grand but it came with a shitload of labor. And another 100 grand in stuff . Wasn’t a good plan but she a good boat now . And one of the strongest for a early 80s boat . I dig a swan 57 swoop. I wish there was a amel sharki in Annapolis to see just for fun .
Great video man, the Island packet is my favorite, with a shoul draft long keel and big beam you can't go wrong... Ooh and they're made like a brick shithouse!!! But I wouldn't turn down one of those Frenchies boats because I'm old and lazy;)
Tony & Susan here, You are getting close!
I hope there’s a part two to this. And a part three, and if you’re going to go that far toss in a part four. And of course, after that you can start the $120 boat series.
Top class unbiased opinion. We all have our own notions and foibles . I would have no issues with a nicholson 31 for a cape horner no big deal.... however as solar and battery technology takes off . volume at the stern is becoming more relevant. Also as you mentioned a highfield on a set of davits is not to be scoffed at. I have had my hairy days at sea and at anchor. 52 derees north Ireland and Scotland. Again, no big deal, The island packet is a wet dream but for sundowners and perfectly formed bottoms its hard to beat a french boat is it
I kinda wish you added Pacific Seacraft to this list. It's within the same price range, even better for offshore than IP, though not as much space inside.
Cheers to you. ..
That opening was glorious. ^_^
Good vid.
Nice Delos t-shirt!
Awesome video👌 👌 👏 👍 ✌❤🍀 🌬⛵
Unfortunately I could not join discord for some reason. I’m very much enjoy this series. I think you may have found yourself a great subject to post videos on for a long time🍻
Hey mate 😁👋 Could Please Please Please do a comparison between a 30 t0 40 foot Catalina and and S and S boats I have narrowed it down to these two boats! Single handed to cross oceans. The Sparkmans and Stephens is a proven ocean crosser at 36 foot but love the room for the Catalina! So some pros and cons on both would be awsome. Loving you episodes and your information is spot on. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE give me some advice my budget isn't huge bit saying that even tho I work on yatchs doing repairs I don't want to waste years getting her ready to go. So not to expensive but not to cheap. Now there's a challenge! Thanks in advance Dave
Woohoo!
Serviceability and quality are big big factors for me.. 35ft boats can pack in same systems as 45ft boats... into 10 less feet. Can you get to those systems? Are all the wires & hoses and though hulls accessible? These boats (and systems) are 20 to 40 years old.
Love your videos, how high on the price are you going? Hopefully you keep going higher.
I'd choose IP any day of the week!
I can barely wait for the oyster
Great vid again. Nice I didnt realize u live in windsor also. Maybe one day your not to busy will have a drink.

Make sure you make a reservation at Mikes North. They will get packed. They have a backroom you can reserve. White Rocks was my home marina for years. Great place. Exodus and Redemption call that port home still. For better grub and rum, Mutiny Scratch just 5 miles away (Closer to Naptown) would be more your speed... And flavor. When you walk in you'll see why. I'm sailing south Monday to beat the normal crowds on the ICW and anchorages. Good Luck!! Love me an Island Piglet too!!

IP's chain plates are internal (& the years you're showing were prone to fail). Several tanks aren't accessible. The rear cabin in many models is just like a coffin. Cockpit is tiny. But I like an IP.
I have no need to race and I primarily just want to sail around the Bohol Sea and the Philippines. I need something though that can be sailed to the Philippines from the states.
I ❤️⛵️
Any IP at $110k is going to old and tired. You'll easily find production boats 10-12 years newer than that IP and in near bristol condition. But you're right - it's based on where and how you're going to sail.
Island packet probably not known 'the world-over' perhaps like the 'World Series' philosophy of North America - cant think Ive seen any in Europe or Asia. maybe they are still on their way over ;-)
I gotta be realistic. I'm a floating condo kind a guy.
But what if i want cheap tricks? Lol Love you wk my friend

Would really love a segment/series on types of boats and why Like day sailor for fun Racer Racer cruise Pure cruiser Etc
The Island Packet laminated chainplates scare me. I wish there was a good method to inspect them.
I've actually spent 110K$ (€/$ was 1,10 at the time and I've paid 100K€) for a sailboat 5 months ago... she's a 2009 Bavaria 38 limited edition... She has nothing special that you can call it "limited" the other 38s don't have, only grey board&deck lines instead of blue board&deck lines... however she checks every boxes which makes you want to add nothing more... bow thruster, chrome anchor, 100mt 3/8" chain, remote windlass, both furling sails, good sized bimini, massive chrome stern arch which works as davids also and 550w solid solar panels on it... sterling A2B charger, victrons and other stuff too.. finaly she has a folding half-stern size swim platform.. the only problem of her she's 3/1 layout but you can find a 2/2 version in the market...I have to recommend Bav38 after my 2 months shakedown sail in mediterranean, mostly in rough seas...
Okay I have to share an opinion that I am dead set on.In mast furling mainsails are a huge no for me.I see these and think poser boat/dock queen. You can't have a square top sail, you can't have horizontal battens(the best way),you can't bring the weight of the sail down, and you are always worried about it getting jammed(usually at the worst possible moment).I would only look at these if the price was low enough to convert it to a conventional flaking mainsail.

Yeah, Delos with it's in mast furling is definitely a poser boat and a dock queen. Amels are TERRIBLE.... /s

Oh my island packets are so slow even compared to other cruising boats
Everyone talks about Bahamas but do sailers go anywhere else in the Caribbean?
BENETEAU 373 the comfort ratio is horrible. Does that matter?
Is Island Packet 320 suitable for ocean crossing to USVI

What's the point of having a sailboat if you never race 🙃I guess you could race against other island packets lmao, like drag racing massive old 70s sedans

The 2nd CSY 44 is ours!☺️ I kind of feel cheated as you didn’t mention any of the upgrades this boat has such as all new electronics, new water bladders, 4 new salon windows, new 250 ft anchor, new spade anchor, new cutlass bearing and prop shaft, engine beta 65 with 600 hrs, aluminum dinghy w tohatsu 15 hp motor super up to 20hp, newer generator, brand new aft ac, new deck paint and bright work is exceptional, nice Bimini and dodger, rebuilt curler , bearings, new running rigging, have external round chainplates to be installed, all new water lines, new vitrifrigo refrigerator, I’m sure there is more. We decided not to sell even though we received a full price offer unseen Decided to follow our dream. Knee replacement then on to Bahamas. For those saying older boats feel dirty~ not St. Ritz!
Yes yes you get much for your initial dollars with these heavy low to mid-quality 70's and 80's boats ... buuuutt ... even for a DIY you will spend a ton of $ for ongoing maintenance, never ever feel clean and fresh, lack boat speed and pointing ability will be frustrating, and backing into a slip will be a PITA. Just don't do it ... go with newer lighter designs ... better all the way around
I'm a bit disappointed at the 110K price range, you really want us to buy a 1981 sailboat for that amount ? it would cost 50k to remodel at least, no word on the Hanse 400e Epoxy for 80K or the Hanse 430e Epoxy 110k as example ? or the Elan 434 Beneteau / these boats are almost brand new 2010 / 2012 class A ocean cruisers and perfect for live aboard
