Ive owned Rotties for 34 years, absolutely my favourite (only) breed of dog. Generalising I would say the 3 main differences between the sexes are: Female - Calm, Confident Male - Domineering Female - Protective Male - Territorial Female - Strong Male - Too Strong Depending on what you are after and where you live it will depend which you prefer. Living in a little town with lots of people/dogs/kids I prefer females (I currently have 2). Males are undoubtably more impressive physically but dont let that be your guiding decision. All rotties need lots of discipline, direction and leadership, you wont get away with a rottie behaving like most cavapoos running around jumping on people and being a nuisance. The argument about "not suitable as a first dog" i think is not valid, as Ive seen many people who have owned 5 labradors not able to raise a rottweiler because they assume it will be similar. If you want to raise a rottweiler, study, learn, and take ownership seriously. Dog training is more education of the owner than it is actual training the dog. If you put in the effort you will be rewarded with the greatest friend a human can have.

This is an accurate summary of differences between male and female Rotties. As he notes, generalizing sex-based behaviors carries risk of negating individual differences between dogs. Nevertheless, his summary fits my experiences with my 3.5 year-old male Rottie. My male Rottie, unequivocally, is the most dominant dog I've ever owned. He was a terror as a puppy, challenging every person and every dog. Now, at 3.5 years old, with extensive training and lots and lots of patience, he is a well-mannered boy. Still, he can go from calm and relaxed to warrior-mode in an instant. Even though he is well-trained, he requires a level of vigilance around other people and animals unlike any dog I've ever owned before. As this gentleman said, I would not get a male Rottie if this is your first dog, or maybe even if it is your second dog. And if you do get a male Rottie, seek a balanced-trainer who understands how to teach you, how to meet this dog's needs.

I think the temperament of the dogs parents also play a big role in the agressian/temperament in a rottie , I have a 12 week pup and hes so easy and gentle , but also still has that natural protective instincts that rotties have. Deffinetly do research on the breeder and parents of the pup you wan

My rottie came to us at 3 or 4. He wanted to challenge me. She tried to charge me (think not aggression but obviously trying to test me. I stood my ground and hip checked him. I have some pretty strong legs. I used to kick open doors for fun. Once he got pushed back a few feet. He was my buddy forever. He just needed some reinforcement. He was jealous of my husband. He would stand between us every time we got close. I am the queen b!tch of the house. The pecking order starts with me lol

Our girl is nearly 6 now. She was a rescue and has strong guarding and herding instincts. We have to watch her closely as she will grab at peoples clothing as they turn to walk away, or even sometimes just walk past. She is incredibly obedient and eager to please and her recall is rock solid but she also gets over excited - jumping and play-biting and we have to tell her to calm down. When her food is ready, she jumps up and down on the spot!

My female Rottie passed away a year ago at 9.5 years. She was wonderful, my wife had a certain amount of trepidation at first due to the reputation of the breed but within months she was sold, she couldn't believe she was ever afraid of her. She was 8 weeks old when I brought her home and she was a pure joy for 9+ years. I'm starting my search now to find another one to bring home in the spring. Definitely leaning towards a female but I do have experience in temperament testing a dog so ultimately solid breeding, solid health screening, and temperament testing are going to determine which one I bring home. I do understand that getting a pup from proven German and Serbian blood lines are the best options for temperament due to the strict standards on breeding and the dogs temperament.

It all depends on your experience with the Rottie. I’ve had both and my male was a little stubborn but he was a gentle giant but looked very scary. He loved everything and everyone. My female always let him know she is the alpha female. I have a new pup she’s a year now and I’m getting a male. I’ve always had two dogs 🐕

I do agree with his points and it really comes down to the owner and also whether your dig comes from a working line or a companion line. I have had my Male Rottie for over a year and he is fantastic as we got the fundamentals right. He doesnt exhibit dominance with me and rarely has dod-dog issues - its actually my females (GSD & Boerboel) who seem to have more same sex issues with similar breeds. Great work and thanks for sharing

Good video pretty accurate. He did mention working bloodline and more family pet bloodline. Those are 2 very different temperament. It a subject that's not talk enough about for first time owners that is also where doing your research comes in. 99% of good working line breeders won't sell to a first time owner but there is always a few bad apples

Our first Rottweiler was a male and he was much more attached to my wife. If there was somebody that he did not trust he got immediately between my wife and them which was his purpose. Our second Rottweiler was a female and she seemed to be more flexible between my wife and me. But she also very closely watched people she thought where risky. They both seem to agree on which people needed to be watched. We had a very belligerent gentleman come to our house and I was trying to gently talk him down and he was getting more upset and finally I said you see my wife you see the dog that is between my wife and you and he kind of slow down then I said and you see the dog that's behind you and he excused himself and quickly left. The dogs just watched the man with clear purpose and let the man go but I know that if he had done anything violent they would have stopped him.

One thing is my female rottie can play real rough and have not met a dog she cant knock down to the ground and sit on.... She is a passive aggressive type but when she goes into protection mode she makes sure im behind her as she scares off whatever she thinks is a threat. These covid mask get a reaction out of her at times especially people with there hands in their pockets. Shes a woman what can i say! She once barked at my wife while we were arguing or while i was saying ok but she wasnt hearing it until bella told her to calm down. I never thought having a dog would be like having another child its wild and i love it.

Howdy, awesome video! I’m going to be getting a rotti very shortly, but I’m a little scared. My roommate has a 2-3 year old corgi and he’s an awesome dog, but he is just an annoying barker! They practically give him treats to make him stop, and I tell them it’s not going to help but they think it’s funny because he’s cute. How could I avoid my rotti picking up those bad habits? Or is it even possible?

In my experience male Rottweilers, especially intact males, will challenge you strongly and almost constantly until they are an adult and you have demonstrated that you are the decision maker and the leader of the family. This doesn’t mean you have to be dominant or domineering, but you do need to be strong in the sense that what you say is what goes. This takes time to learn to do right and to communicate to the dog. I’m still learning and have had several large dogs in the past, and am on my second male Rotti. They are beautiful and amazing dogs once your relationship is established though, and we’ll worth consistent effort.

My female was a royal PiTA!!!!!! Challenged me on every little detail. Once we reached an agreement (I was in charge, not her) things settled down. My males on the other hand, were wonderful, loving goofballs. On a side note: If you have two males, they may fight for dominance. But with solid leadership, you can stop/prevent them. If you have two females, they may get into what is called “bitch fights”. These are way worse than male dominance fights. And often do not respond to strong human leadership.

She loves my kids and runs off leash with them where ever we go. When i say she helps me she try to hold em down if im play smacking them or when my son was acting like he was shooting me with his gun bella barked and took it from him. My female is my absolute best friend on this planet shes a year old since may1st. I once got into a fight with a guys after i put my rottweiler in thank god i did but even though she wasnt there she tried to attack him the next few times, shes fine now when she see him but she somehow knew the man direspected me, strange i know but its true.

I now have a four month old rottie pup, (got him at 8 weeks) was terrible for biting your hands) I found your channel and am doing exactly what you said, it’s calmed down a lot, but the only problem I’m having is he has super mad moments barking at me trying to jump on the couch, just goes insane. I’ve tried talking him out for walks but he gets scared and will only be out for about 10mins before he wants to (literally) full pelt back home, my first rottie (a male) was pretty calm and loved his walks even as a pup. Would love some advice, and to hear back from you, my new rottie is a male aswell, also he loves people and kids, he can’t get enough fuss from them which I love about him

He became dominant to the point we had him fixed. He's always wanting to work, very protective of my partner and the home. My bitch, she's very domesticated in comparison, she's alert, but extremely affectionate. He will flick on a switch at people he doesn't like, but at the same time he will listen to commands. My girl is aloof more, needy but she's fearless with water and other dogs. Both very different, but my boy is strong willed and can be stubborn. Love the breeds.

She knew when we were upset and would comfort us. I only ever saw her angry 3 times over a decade and every single time it was a response to someone or something she perceived as a threat to us as we all spent a lot of time together after school. She tried to jump off a boat and fight a Tiger shark once. She truly loved us.

Every dog is different. You have to prepare for the worst and hope for the best. If you have the time to take care of the dog then go for it. Make sure everyone in your family understands what they are getting. Just because you can handle the dog does not mean everyone in your family can. Be honest with yourself because most people don't understand how much patience these dogs require. Also, make sure to get it from a proper breeder which will be expensive as well. Most breeders that sell Rottweiler puppies at a cheap price don't do any sort of temperament tests on parents. So even though the puppy might be pure breed it can have issues later.

@@prathviparihar7857 if you're ready for providing everything like you said...go for a female Rottweiler rather than male as you are a first time dog owner. Also don't get a European Doberman as a first time dog owner as they are a working breed and need lots and lots of physical exercise and mental stimulation too.

Borderline racist comment. Attacking aspects like accent is one sign of racism, something they have no control over. Not everyone speaks clear mother tongue English

I agree with everything you said, and please people, DON'T get a dog you can't physically control, i don't care how well trained your dog is, you NEED to be able to physically control it if needed.
