    as a scrapper in Australia, I snip the plugs off ALL my cords that contain copper wire. I then remove the brass plugs from the plastic and put them with the rest of the brass I have, as it is pure brass. I strip my cords of copper wire, yielding pure copper. The more I process my scrap metal and turn it into a higher grade of purity, the more money I am going to ultimately make.

    Do you have a wire stripper at home that is fast and efficient? Because if so, then it definitely makes sense to strip them down if you are collecting in bulk amounts. It will ultimately yield more money. Does your yard ask you remove plugs or do you just decide yourself? Do you sell them separately?

    iScrap App : At present, I do not have a wire stripper. I strip by hand using a knife with a razor blade otherwise known as a Stanley knife or box cutters. My scrap yard doesn't ask me to remove the brass plugs but I do it anyway and sell them with my clean brass. I get a better price because the copper and brass I sell are clean.

    Any connector end from electronic waste, such as USB, Cat5, phone Jacks. those contain gold. there are buyers that will purchase them. Currently I pay $1.00 per pound. NEVER LEAVE THEM ON THE CABLES.

    That is good that you have a good way of scrapping them for value. It's very hard for some scrappers to find that reliable source to recycle them with. Do you have any minimum requirements?

    iScrap App I do not. I do ask that they be clean plugs. deductions made for excess wire, screws, dirt, or other mixed trash. I ask that the wire be cut as close as possible, remove all screws, and such. knock dirt from them sweet.

    No here in Ireland we don't the yards here take it, why cause yards have the machines to clean it our yards wand the people out collecting as much as possible why cause the time it you the scarper to take it of is less time ur are out scraping and they want u out to get as much you can get not cutting cords I think the u.s yards are useing it not to pay what we get here in Ireland I clean nothing I have to do a video on it to show people on that side to the pond how much more we get without the hard work I watch good scrapers put over there it needs to change for the small people who it wouldn't be possible without keep scraping

    Trying to find consistent information on this stuff is so difficult. Some sites say “computer power supply wire, power cables and extension cords are all mid-grade, everything else is low grade.” Ok, got it. And then you read another site, “telecommunications wire is worth more.” Okay, separate that out. Third site, “It’s all #2 insulated.” Aaanndd I’m lost. It seems the most you can do is separate it as best you can and then figure out what the particular, individual scrapyards around you classify it as. Just try and get an idea of what the wire itself is worth and don’t let them short you.

  • @iScrapApp

    @iScrapApp

    Yes, we always say, to check with your yard and ask them how they grade things. Because if they don't buy certain things separately then it's not worth the time.

    what if I already cut smaller wire endings? is it worth separating with bigger one like in the video? n should cable wire be put together with anything not cat5/6?

  • @tombuechel2391

    Not worth sorting them. We suggest leaving ends on CAT 5 alone. Thanks!

  • @cricketman7335
    @cricketman73357 жыл бұрын

    My scrap yard says to include CAT 5/6 cables in with the other low grade copper cords/cables like power cords, speaker wire, power supply wires, and so on because there is so little copper wire in those CAT 5/6 cables as compared to a general power cord from a computer. Which actually makes since if you cut the ends and compare side by side. So much more copper shiny in most power cords and in CAT 5/6 cables you can hardly see any copper wire. But as far as cutting the ends off... I've wondered about the ends that contain gold plated ends like Cat5/6, USB, monitor, and so on if they should just be left on or not vs. the pay rate of the wire if left on. Thanks for the video!

  • @iScrapApp

    @iScrapApp

    7 жыл бұрын

    Like we say, it really depends on how your yard is accepting the wires and how they price them. If they are pricing the Cat 5/6 the same as other wires then it makes sense to combine them. Also if they are going to downgrade you for plugs, then definitely cut them off. When it comes to the gold plated contacts, if you have a reliable and good paying way to scrap those, then definitely remove those too. It really all depends on what your yard prefers and if you have the right ways to scrap the items.

    Way too vague. There should be specific standards for this stuff. Scrapping is going to get much more popular as people seek ways to earn more money. Also the amount of scrap is going to increase as people look to upgrade their electronics and appliances to more efficient models. There should be an attempt to establish regulations in this industry to keep scrapyards from ripping us off.

    So Are You Saying That It's Not Worth It To Strip Basic Extension Cords, like Vacuum Cleaners, TVs, Trash Compactors. So i have 200 lbs of this wire. My yard buys this wire unstrip .15 cents a lb. so it's #2 wire at $1.90 a lbs. You guys do a Good job at breaking it down so it can be understood. Thanx.

    MissionScrappr Will i have found best way to deal with alot of this low grade insulated copper. if you have longer cords its best to tirn them into working exstention cord.A vaccum cord can easily convert into Long exstention cord and bring $10 or more at a flea market. 5/6 footers can fetch a $1 a foot thats good value.

    Currently not that much, I used to bring a lot when I was getting 98 cents a pound. I would purchase it for 62 cents a pound at the goodwill outlet and take my 30 cents a pound profit. It takes about 5 plug tips to get an ounce of brass. It all adds up, every trnth of an ounce, I save it all.
