    Popov for sure. I love the looks and durability of the thick saddle stitching, plus, being hand stitched adds considerable time to the construction, justifying the cost.

    Cool, Man! You got the limited black cash clip, too - like mine. I got the Heritage Brown leather, but with brown thread. Popov Leather hit it out of the park with this wallet.

    I was looking at the Capone but saw Popov had released their version. I'd go for Popov compared to the Capone which I'd have to have in Shell Cordovan, and that's expensive. My card pockets in Natural are perfect, so I'm well pleased with it. The smei is fantastic! All the best Crispy!!

    Beautiful wallet and colors, it will wear in very nicely. I'm guessing that the hand stitching is the difference in the price. I know for myself the labor I have in this type of wallet goes up by almost 40% when you hand stitch this design. For the pockets I bevel the inside of the pockets and then burnish them. It helps, just a little bit, the cards from catching when you are putting them in.

    For the price comparison, the Popov is hand stitched and the Ashland is machine stitched. Look up how much more the Ashland wallet would cost hand stitched, it makes the Popov look like an absolute steal.

    I imagine the inner pockets face inward instead of outward in case you stretch the leather too much and then end up carrying less cards, so they won't fall out no matter what happens.

  • @ChrispyThings

    @ChrispyThings

    2 жыл бұрын

    They’d still fall out of the outer pockets regardless of the way they’re facing if the pockets were stretched. Most cards will stay in place wedged in the pockets. I don’t see that being an issue

  • @mak450

    @mak450

    2 жыл бұрын

    Nah I don't think they would, unless you just held the wallet open vertically, but if you stretch your wallet out then do that, I'd call that user error. And you definitely can't wedge cards into a pocket that's been stretched out too far, at that point your only option is to put those cards back in your shrink the leather back. Unless I been missing something for years

    You can reverse the card slots so they are faced the other way. The challenge with that design is that the leather for each of the wings doesn't have enough structure/stiffness down at that end if you leave it open. There is only one layer of leather at that far end and it gets a bit floppy and feels cheep. So to put the pockets there you need to solve this issue somehow. There are ways of doing this but they all add cost, complexity and bulk.

    You consistently have some of the weirdest takes on wallet functionality. At 3:59 you ask why the card slots aren't reversed because you want to insert your cards the opposite way. Why do you want this? Do you not understand that the way they are set up properly is so that cards don't just fall out of the slots once they're stretched out? Like honestly how could someone even think of a weirder, less sense-making opinion than that

    One thing I’ve learned about a machine stitch is it’ll hold for years as long as the thread is high quality. Of course it’s not as good as a hand saddle stitch, but a saddle stitch would fall apart if crap thread was used too

    I had to stop half way through the review for two reasons. 1 He was too hung up on the thread instead of functionality. 2 They are both cheap nock off's and have poached part of their name from the famous Mitchell Leather Co 's MCW wallet. The MCW has been making the MCW for over 30 years and their clip set up of the wallet is everything these 2 fakes aren't. Don't believe me take the time to go to their website before you waste your hard earned money that you will regret when your looking for a better way.
