i was wondering that to

Managed to grab one for £70 which was a steal, there are benefits for this standalone headset, less taxing on hardware, direct video feed from GPU, no frame/video conversation like on Oculus quest 1,2, lightweight, the resolution is still pretty good, it's not quest 2 level, fov seems bigger than the new headsets, but that is determined by ipd, I love my rift s for pc vr gaming, the headset is still very good for 2022.

@@WaffleCake well I just received a cable replacement from Oculus through support, so that's not 100 percent accurate, I'm from the UK so not sure if the laws are different anywhere else with replacements.

I agree. I have one and I am very pleased with its performance in Elite Dangerous. Although I do have it connected to a high end gaming pc with a 70mbs internet connection. So any problems I would immediately blame the Rift S. Whereas I should probably be blaming Frontier's servers. There are definitely issues with some Steam VR games. No Man's sky for instance, it is impossible to have smooth movement. I can only get teleport movement. But still playable.

Hello I know I'm 7 months late but I have an important question I know that for the rift s its required to have a PC which I do, but idk if my PC is powerful enough to handle it GPU: Gtx 1650, CPU: Ryzen 3 If you know about this stuff can u give me your opinion if it can handle it I've searched online but everytime Ive searched for minimum requirements specs for games and other stuff it almost always tells me that my PC can't handle the games but they always run smoothly, but idk if it's the same for be headsets

I just got my rift s today! I have to fix a couple of issues with my pc but after that Im good to go for my first PCVR experience! Super excited

Makes me feel good about my $150 purchase. It should be here by the end of the week. I can't wait to finally get into VR!

I’ve had my mine for a year or two. I use it every other day. Sometimes I’ll long stretches without using it. When I do use it, I’m often reminded why I bought it in the first place. One of my favorite purchases since I’ve gotten in PC gaming.

Have had mine for 3 years HEAVY use. Works great still. Had stick drift but fixed with some rubbing alcohol.

I recently bought my first VR headset from eBay, a slightly battered and bruised "Rift S" which I patched up with some simple fixes. I wanted to try VR in Microsoft's flight simulator, and have mixed feelings about the performance with a GTX1080 and 10th gen Intel i7 8 core/16 thread CPU. The resolution in MSFS is a little "soft" and there are a lot of "micro stutters" when running the sim. I have tweaked the settings with the assistance of numerous KZread videos, but feel that it needs a more powerful GPU to get the best from the simulator. Having said that, I did play "Half Life Alyx" with it. and it was super smooth and slightly terrifying!

How are you all using the oculus rift s post brick patch? I've got one sitting right here, it worked till a firmware update then immediately bricked without damage of any form, being a new headset. I'd love to return to the best headset I ever used please

What happens when the support runs out? Its useless then?

just picked up an oculus rift s refurbished model on ebay for £90, it was the headset and cable only but i already had quest 1 controllers so it was a fat W. Basically got a brand new headset

I find it funny that in 2024, the firefox app for the quest still use the rift s controllers models. I didn't really think much of it on the quest 2, but now it's basically 3 generations behind now that I have the quest 3.

I know people that love the oculus rift s and how it sounds but I've experienced lots of problems for example black screens, robot mic, crashing for 2 cables I've had, unfixable joystick drift for me which was really annoying and now happening again, im just saying unless you want to deal with so much problems that will break your experience dont buy one. just getting this out there have a great day anyone reading this

It started to happen around 2 years of owning it but the main problem was that it was rarely used headset I now use it everyday and trying to find a solution so far people say a powered USB hub fixes all their problems

There will always be variations in experiences for everyone but I’ve only had problems with the memory of my floor space settings and I basically have to reset it up everytime I play. It seems like your having more than just an outright failure of a product and more bad luck nonetheless you shouldn’t have had so many issues, I’d try contacting support and telling them all the issues you’ve been having maybe they’ll be able to help you with a new headset or something like that

I have dell windows mixed reality and its sh*t since the front sensor that detects if I am wearing it randomly thinks im not using it mid game and with bonelab it makes the game pause and when it makes it pause like 20 times in 10 seconds it broke the game xd, im replacing it even though I got it 4 months ago (Im replacing it with a different vr headset)

Had mine since 2019 with medium to light use [mainly beat saber every few weeks or so] and it's in perfect condition. I'm definitely looking to upgrade as soon as the next batch of headsets come out which will hopefully outperform the valve index.

I’ve had my Rift S for a couple of years now, all around a solid headset. Resolution is starting to become fuzzy compared to newer models. There is some nuances when taking the headset off for a while and putting it back on too. Although I don’t think the newer equipment is worth the upgrade yet going into 2023. Id give it another year or two even.

It’s an awesome headset I’m really hoping with what meta is going through rn they will reintroduce the rift or atleast a pc focused headset it makes sense rn especially if you consider that meta is trying to cut costs they might reopen old projects it’s a far stretch though. Sucks they haven’t just done a refresh on them and brought it back to current standards

While the resolution is lower than many contemporary headsets it looks just about as good as any of them while in game and playing. The rift S. actually has better picture quality than Quest 2 because it doesn't use compression. I upgraded to a G2 expectation a huge visual jump and in reality they look about the same.

I got a Lenovo explorer 5 years ago secondhand for £175 the only reasons im looking at replacement is the hinge has lost resistance and its got a couple of bits of sun damage in the lenses ( my wife was cleaning and knocked it off the desk,when she put it back she left the lenses facing a window)

Yep, I have the g2 and rift s and they do look about the same. I don't even use my g2 anymore because the rift s is so much more comfortable.

Something went wrong and your device can't track the movement of your headset.

i got one for a cheap price, i really like the controllers but the headset itself has so much mic issues and constant crashing but i asked a couple of friends and they said that you'll need more power to your headset which means it needs a usb hub 3.0 plugged into a socket in your room or something but i prefer just plugging it into my pc and running it from there but tbh i just play vr while staying muted on social games and if i crash, my vr just goes back up in around 15-20 seconds because my pc is pretty good so it's a alright headset.. i just wish meta actually fixed the crashing issue and mic issue too and i will be glad :P

Since I only play Beat saber, the rift s’s latency is far superior and far more crucial for me, compared to the quest headsets. The quest headset’s latency cause a jello feeling, which causes my acc to go from 97 to a 95% and is impossible for me to control. I got a rift s for $50 which is a steal!

i have a question two but recently the battery finally gave out as i have had it since it came out. i’m thinking about getting a rift s and i have a vr ready pc. is a rx580 8gb good for vr?

I am using a gtx 970 and I haven't ran into any issues yet, id imagine a 580 will do just fine.

I wish to see VR room that can offer entertainment for children in Disneyland where glasses can interact with objects inside the room. Like an entertainment spaceship.

I'm still rocking mine Rift S ,,you should update this video interesting to see the results concerning recent chip prices and demand.

Currently have Rift S still. Got it late 2019. A lot of ups and a few downs. Sometimes when I start it up, it freaks out and have black screens, and I often get an error message that my headset isn't tracking, even though it is. I just disregard that error message. Once I do get it running, its (Somewhat) smooth sailing with no crashes and enjoy my VR experience! Although, I will have to replace this with either a Quest 2 with Link or Pico 4 eventually. Still need to do some research. Either way, Ill be running Rift S until I break it. (Or it breaks itself )

Ive been using my rift s for over 3 years now and its still going , the rachet strap os being tempremental and wont tighten , i have the same issues with track8ng and the headset freaking out but overall its been good BUT i just bit the bullet and brought a quest 2 and have to say , its FAR BETTER for many reasons. Now i havent really played alot of PC VR on it yet as i need to upgrade my poor little gtx 1060 rig lol but supprisingly , i tried virtual desktop on a few less taxing games with my quest 2 and they played very well. With a decent rig , the quest 2 playing pc vr WIRELESS will be great . Even playing bonelabs untethered native on quest 2 is great , so in my opinion wireless is the way to go. The quest 2 also has better resolution and less screen door effect aswell . I would highley recommend you get a quest 2 for pc vr if your pc can run it and for the standalone side too , resident evil 4 vr is great . Having the option to play without messing with a pc is a plus . I would say though that out the box , the quest 2 is NOT very comfortable , AT ALL. I ordered the bobo VR M2 Plus head strap and VR Cover fitness facial interface befor i even got my quest 2 as i knew they are not comfortable and the bobo strap has 2 hot swap batteries to extend the life of the quest aswell. Long winded i know but o would say , GET A QUEST 2 lol.

@@nissan300zxtt9 Good to know! I heard a few people saying it wasn't comfortable. I was thinking of that strap too. I too have a PC with a gtx 1060 3gb lol. Its running on an SSD so things are pretty good. Played BoneLab and finished the Story mode no issues. I dont usually play too much games in VR. Usually in VRchat, BeatSaber, Phasmophobia, and other similar games But yes I think Ill be picking up Quest 2 Probably mid next year.

Do a clean reinstall of your GPU drivers and all issues will be fixed. Also do the same with the Oculus software.

i have a lot of screen time almost all day. Yeah it is too much i know don't judge me please i jus tneed to know does the quest 2's 3 hour battery sometimes affect anyone? Cuz im debating if i should buy Oculus RIft S or quest 2 im very unsure because it is my first EVER pc headset edit: waht i mean with affect is does it sometimes just comepletly go out black in the middle of a game and such, is it anoying, is it ok or do u soemtiems forget that there even is battery?

I’m not too sure on the quest 2 I think it gives you multiple warnings before dying but it may just shutdown once dead. My main concern would be the lower resolution the quest 2 runs at especially if you’re considering playing for multiple hrs a day everyday

If your pc is good enough , quest 2 hands down. Dont worry about battery life on the quest 2 , get the bobo VR M2 plus for £99 and your good to go for hours. I have it and its great for battery life but also comfort. The batterys are also on the back which helps balance the headset to. If your pc can handle it , get the quest ....better screens , wireless and you also have the standalone option to watch movies , browse youtube etc . I own both , rift s and quest 2 and the quest 2 is better in alot of areas and not to mention the rift s has been discontinued now so if it breaks , your screwed . Also , quest has its exclusives that WONT GO TO PC VR like resident evil 4 and gta san andreas when it releases, so with a quest you have both options , PC VR ( with a good pc ) and standalone aswell , not juat for the standalone games either , the web browser , sidequest app to play the ported doom 3 game in VR and more. Dont get me wrong , my rift s is great amd has been great but in todays world , its NOT the headset to buy anymore . Quest 2 is better , just get the bobo VR M2 plus head strap with the hot swap batteries and your golden.

I have a Rift S since 2019. To this day I use them and have no problems. Still very smooth experience. I do not see the point of switching to Quest 2 because of small changes that will not affect the user experience so much, and even possibly worsen them, if we talk about wired PCVR. For me, it makes sense to update the VR system only if other VR glasses have built-in cameras for tracking controllers and all the parameters will be better in terms of PCVR, only then I will have the desire to move to a new level. Native resolution (Rift S) will always outperform compressed image transmission (Quest 2). Period.

And how much do you use it and which games, cuz I have mine also around 2020 and i've had loads of issues: sqeaky triggers, the rail used to change the distance of the goggles also somtimes gives up, stick drift and worst of all the robot mic, I have clocked many hours on games like Pavlov and bonelab

I would get a quest because the specs are a lot better and it’s standalone!

i would say, no. Ijust got mine and everytime Iuse it, it takes around two hours to get it to even switch on. I have a GTX3070. it should easily handle it. even now, i have been turning my pc on and off 5 times and still all i get is beeps saying its connecting but nothing. So I would say stay away from the Rift S

i found used oculus rift cv1 with 230euro should i pick that for pc gaming or new quest 2??

Oculus Rift S I is fantastic i would upgrade to a reverb g2 v2 for better optics

To be honest I wished that Oculus made a Rift S 2, as it would be a great budget PCVR option. Most budget VR now is just standalones like the Quest 2, and I've always wished for a sequel to this headset. I've been wondering if I should get a Rift S or quest 2, as apparently there are mic issues with the Rift S, but I'm more of a PCVR guy.

Hey, how comfortable is the headset while wearing glasses? You said the slider is helpful for people who wear glasses, but is it fairly comfortable? I've been playing with a friends Quest recently and the device is kind of annoying for glasses wearers, unless buying an updated strap. It’s pretty comfortable, there’s a button on the bottom that you can use to move the headset away from your face so your glasses sit a bit away from the screen. The crown doesn’t go down far enough on your head to really mess with your glasses there aswell, so it’s pretty nice honestly!

Me and my girlfriend recently try PSVR and fell in love so we both buy Rift S she wear glasses and she say that when he first saw them she think it will be imposible to use them with glasses but she is super happy on how they fit on here face and don't interrupt her glasses Sorry for my English and seriously you wouldn't regret the buy 👍

I wear glasses with the Rift S. As long as you put the headset on and off properly, no problem. I would not try glasses with big frames though. I have small, metal frame glasses and the side pieces have caused minor damage to the foam seal.

I've tried Quest 3 and borrowed Rift S from a friend, if I had spare cash, I'd go for Quest 3, no question. Rift S has really soured my experience with VR for one reason - Cable connection. It was unreliable, constantly disconnected, crashed games, Steam VR and my video card, which required full restart afterwards to work with VR again. Couldn't finish Half-Life: Alyx, which is a great game, but it just completely takes you out of experience when the cable gets in my way, piece of crap. Quest 3 is a breeze, better resolution, better FOV, wireless.

I've ordered Quest 3. Rift S has some issues but isn't so bad trust me.

I hade mine since it first came out, sadly it kinda died but it was really fun to use.

I Have the quest 2, but I want something better and on a budget like the rift or rift s, I have a pc that is VR ready, so I think I might just save up for one of them or get one for Christmas

What do mean by VR ready ??? If you have anything close or higher than a 2070 then DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON A RIFT OR RIFT S .......THEY ARE NOT BETTER. I own both , had my rift s for 3 years + and while its been great , its also been a pain in the ass alot too. The head strap is not tightening up anymore without jiggling the hell out of it and the screens and resolution are good but the quest 2 is better. Since having my quest 2 and swapping between them both , i have to say the QUEST 2 is the BETTER option for pc vr of your rig can handle it , even just if you plan to use LINK and not wireless , the quest 2 is better. Do not waste your cash on a rift s if you own a quest 2.....spend the money upgrading your pc instead if you need to.

It's still better for PCVR than Quest 2, 3 and Pico 4 because of the displayport cable, but don't buy a Rift S. The cables break and Facebook discontinued replacement cables in their effort to kill PCVR.

Honestly the comments don’t make fucking sense. I have no problems with the rift s, it’s amazing quality, and I even tried a quest 2 on pcvr and hated it man.

I agree. I'd rather have a dedicated pcvr headset than having a standalone headset connected to my pc with a clunky cable.

I Just don't get why People hate rift s so much. I have one and its amazing. I never had any issues( tho i understand that some People had thier experience completely ruined by bugs). Its annoying that every one hates it beacuse of bugs, but no one says anything about for example game library disapearing On the quest 2. Rift s is way better for some People and in some cases its even cheaper than the quest 2. Also I don't want to spend 80€ on the oculus link. That's a outrageus price for a cable.

I think its the replacement cables, you can;t really buy them anymore. what should be like a 20 dollars cable is 180 us dollars online.

Of course, If there is an output to DisplayPort Mini or USB C with DisplayPort function.

This is the only PCVR I can afford, I hate wireless headsets the compression sucks ass nothing beats that Direct GPU Connection.

You would need a device like the Quest 2 as the Rift S cannot be used with a phone.

if you dont have a gaming pc a quest 2 would be suffice since its standalone, youll need a facebook account to login in Oculus has mentioned that they are going to remove the required facebook login not sure when though

i got oculus rift first gen, already tried the quest's and i hate them makes my eyes hurt and also pretty heavy. There is also the part where your hardware limited that kinda make me mad to be honest and oculus rift s display quality was millions of times better than the quest screen. So to be honest it is really a best bargen too buy a rift s, i intend too sale mine to buy a rift s used of course. Because a new one i dont think you really can buy one today now but even so it way cheaper used than new and its not worth 300$ for that i woud prefer paying used because they cost 180$ or 200$ max.

Currently using a Vive Cosmos Elite for the wireless solution and honestly I can't go back to wired vr

I'd say HELL NO. Because you need a minidisplay port and it really hates working with adapters for other ports. GLHF if your new laptop doesnt have one! no one will answer any questions you have and no one will ever talk about what adapters work.

Are you on windows 11? There was a bug that sometimes would not allow for installation. As for me It's working fine.

@@nameless_milk_1624 The results are relative to your machine. I can only comment from trials on 3 different higher end PCs. The Rift S worked much better on each one. On each PC we also tested against the Quest 1 and 2 models. That's why I still haven't bought the Q2. Every time they say an update is out to make the Q2 even better it fails we do another test and it fails to wow me. I do hope for something special with the next Quest, but standalone doesn't interest me in it's current state. You'll also see a lot of streamers that have both the Q2 and Rift S still play and stream with the Rift S as preferred choice.

Nice video! I’ve had a Rift S for a couple of years and prefer it to the standalone headsets. Where did you get a new Rift S in 2022?

Reason why standalone headsets are better: spend an extra $30 and you get a headset you can use for years to come. the quest 2 has insane specs and can be played with PCVR

@@nameless_milk_1624 Yeah, I too believed the hype and picked up a Quest 2 to play with PCVR. It sucks as a PCVR device-much, much worse than the Rift S. The specs are great and the display is beautiful but if you want PCVR, get the Rift S.

@@ImperialTechReviews HDMI and USB 3.0. it won't pass the sensor check. It's been driving me crazy. I put it up about a year ago and i just put it up again because of it.

@@Kj-fs8dz i wouldn’t get the cv1 cause it’s a pc powered has many cables which would take out your pc usb c cables so that really wouldn’t be a good idea but q2 is a good idea if your a around the world gamer you can travel with it and it’s really nice but it’s graphics doesn’t stand out cause it’s a alone fr headset and it doesn’t really matter since it can also be VR headset so I’d prefer q2 than the cv1.
