Should You Buy The Naturehike Rock Series 60 + 5 Liter Backpack?

Naturehike Rock Series 60 +5 Liter Dyneema Backpack Review . THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY! I need to clarify that this pack comes in two fabric choices. The regular model is 100% 400D Nylon , and the upgraded model is 400D Nylon that is reinforced with Dyneema. The upgraded model is 94% Nylon and 6% Dyneema. This pack offers a great value for a light weight pack, but it does have a couple of quarks.

1 month of travelling with this one. If you want the best out of it and if you use it in rough condition and / or with heavy load, these are my advices : - Don't go over 15kg - If you load it over 12kg, oversew the shoulder straps to the bag. One of mine broke but the backpack was still usable thanks to the smaller adjustable black straps. - Cut short all the straps. They are too long. - Cut the "bottle" pocket. It's annoying and cutting it will allow you to easily custom the sternum strap. And you'll be able to add a good bottle pocket after. - Then you can also cut one of the side pocket, which will allow you to cut the backpack fon the side from bottom to top and sew a ziper. - Use the cutout straps and glue a piece on each angle of the metallic frame down the pack (It's 420D nylon there and the frame will use it real quick with the backpack rubbing on the floor even slightly. - You can cut off the cloth separating the main container and the raincover container, which gives you a small access to the bottom of the pack and will save you even more grams. - The belt's straps and buckles are linked to the belt using pieces of plastic. You can remove this and directly sew straps to it, which saves you the weight of the plastic adjustable buckles. Cuting these out, I saved 135 grams. When a bag is 1300 grams and you can mod it under 1200g, it's pretty pretty good. I didn't sew the side ziper for now so I don't know the added weight but damn these lighweight rolltops miss this feature so much.

Great review. I currently use a Teton Sports Explorer 65 backpack for 5-day + hikes; which is s a 65-liter pack that weighs 5+ lbs. I'm looking for a lighter internal framed pack with with similar capacity. I want to love this backpack based on its listed specifications. Calculations of the Naturehike 60 +5 liter backpack's dimensions listed on Amazon don't even match half of their claimed capacity, so I am a bit leery. Does the Naturehike 60 liter pack live up to its capacity claims, and how does it fare for comfort for long hikes with 25 lb+ pack weights? Can you share what the main roll top compartment opened up dimensions are?

Thank you very much. It was one of my first reviews so it was probably too long to be honest. I have a tendency to include too much detail. I have used this pack for 3 years and I think it is a great pack. The only thing that would make it better is to make it adjustable and ventilate the back.

I have the naturehike 30+5 liter pack and haven’t got to test it out yet. I just noticed that the weight capacity is 20 pounds… the trip I am taking with be a 3 day trip with. I water sources. That will put me over 20 pounds. I notice the pack you have weight limit is 30.86 pounds. We’re you able to go ever that weight and did the give you any issues? Love the vids keep them up!

Nathan, I Was probably right at the 31 lb or even 32 lbs and the pack did fine. I watched a video by “ the senior hiker” and if I remember correctly he was also over the limit. You will probably be fine at a couple of lbs over , but the pack will probably not carry as well as it would at say 18 lbs. My pack did fine but it carried much better with a 26 lb load. The good thing is that your load will lighten as you eat your food so that will bring you under the max. Naturehike seems to make good quality products so I think you’ll be fine but I wouldn’t go over probably 22 lbs. let me know how things go. I would like to hear about your adventure.

great review. but just so you know for the future when looking at gear, torso length does not depend on your height. tall people get most of their height from their legs. im 5' 8" with a 19-20in torso. always measure your torso when looking for a backpack dont base it off your height.

That's an interesting observation Dylan and one I had not thought of in terms of pack size and height. It is similar to I have heard people say they put risers on their motorcycle's handlebars since they are tall and height has nothing to do with it and a great demonstration of this is golf clubs. If a person who is 6'5" stands by me who is 5'8' our arms come down to almost exactly the same spot and we both can use the same size golf club size regardless of our height differences. I think this may be the same thing you pointed out and glad you did because I did't make that leap with torso length, height and pack size.

Good review! This pack has some flaws but is a great deal. I've seen the very negative review you mentioned and he makes some good points but also I think gets distracted from the real issue: the pack was too large for him and also his particular one might have had a manufacturing error. These are both legit complaints but I think his review treats the issues from the miss-sizing like it will affect literally everyone and that doesn't seem to be the case. I own this pack (the Dyneema version). I've yet to go on a hike with it (due to covid restrictions here in Melbourne), so there is a good chance this pack might not be correctly sized for me either (I'm 5'7"). However, my initial full load test was positive and I didn't notice the instant issues he did. If it turns out the pack isn't right for me, I'll probably give or sell it to one of my 6ft+ friends and get something more suitable for me.

I stated that this pack would probably work best for a person in the 5'11" to 6'2" range. However, it really has more to do with torso length. This pack probably fits people with a 19 to 22 inch ( 48 to 55 cm) torso length. Torso length varies greatly from person to person so this pack still may work for you. The largest load that I have carried in this pack has been 22 lbs/10 kg, and it was really comfortable. I hope that the Covid virus dissipates soon so that you can get out. Please let me know if the pack works for you when you are finally able to get out. Thanks for watching and for your comment!

I have the 40 liter version of this pack. I have 200 plus miles, Doing 2-3 day overnight hikes. I am a shorter male, but with a long torso, so this pack fits me and my gear well. My only complaint is that after a heavy water haul, the top corners of the frame bent forward a few degrees. ( Yes, my fault for overloading the pack.)This caused the shoulder straps outboard edges to irritate my shoulders - due to the shoulder straps having a slight twist. I plan on adding a small reinforcement to the frame top. Otherr than this detail, I really like this pack.

@@bikhills Thanks for the reply and that is good info to know about over loading the pack. Most light weight packs do not do well with heavy loads. The most weight that I have carried so far is about 22 lbs so I wondered how it would carry with a max load. You also make a really good point about torso size as it is really the measurement that matters.

I have a quick question: your pack is the Dyneema version. I assume it came with an outer tag saying the fabric is Dyneema. What does the inner tag on the backpack say?

Sorry it has taken me so, long to get back to you , but you opened a can of worms with your question. My label reads 94% Nylon and 6% HMPE. I had assumed that when they stated that one version was nylon and the upgrade was Dyneema that meant 100% Dyneema. So, I contacted Naturehike via e-mail and had several exchanges with someone at their headquarters. He assured me that I had the upgraded version, so that lead me to do quite a bit of research on Dyneema . I found that many times Dyneema (HMPE) is used to reinforce other fabrics such as Nyon. The 420D Nylon is a great fabric by itself as it was developed for the Military for parachute packs. When all is said and done I believe that the Dyneema version is simple reinforced which would make total sense since the upgraded version is usually only $10 US more. A 100% Dyneema pack would probably be $100 more than the nylon version. I looked high and low on the Naturehike website and it is pretty vague about the upgraded version. As far as the tag is concerned I really don't remember what is said as it has been over a year since I got it.

  • @Too-Odd

@@boomersoutdoors8898 Yes, it is Dyneema 210D Gridstop reinforced nylon. It is pretty obvious from the look of the fabric. I actually prefer that fabric, as it wears better than Dyneema composite, but it is not as light weight, so people making the purchase may feel that it is deceiving. It doesn't look like Dyneema composite in any of the promotional photos, so I do not see a problem with an informed potential buyer. I asked the question to make sure that is the bag you purchased. I could have saved you the trouble of contacting Naturehike about it. The outer tag says Dyneema version on these bags and the bag itself has a larger square grid than the Ripstop nylon version.

You are absolutely right that the grid is slightly larger on the Dyneema version and you are correct about the way it looks. The Dyneema composite has that crinkled look almost like wax paper. I really appreciate your confirmation on the material.

Hardy, I have now used this pack for probably around 200 miles with loads ranging from 18 to 30 pounds and had no problems. The only things that I really would change are I would make the shoulder strap pocket removable and try to put a little more arc in the back to make it more breathable.
