The reason it's hard to get a lock sometimes is because pulse doppler works because of the enemies speed. If the enemies speed is close to yours, the radar cannot see anything normally equipping speedbrake for 4 seconds will ensure a good enough speed difference to get a lock. Unfortunately, this means your missile will start off slower. Than the enemy.

It doesn't normally look like that, though if you mess with the decal placement you can get it to work
