My wife gifted me a 41mm Stowa marine for our wedding. It's been in periodical rotation over the last 6 years. The marine comes in a date variation as well so for any prospective buyers consider that option does not have a"finicky" crown experience. The original Stowa signed calfskin leather strap it came with remains intact, in very good condition, with normal and expected wear of 6 years. For those out there that may feel it's generic and/or low quality - I've had custom and/or expansive leather straps from the notable retailers we all know which have broken down quicker than the Stowa strap. I recommend this watch and brand to anyone breaking into the 1k mark. They're a serouis watch marker with a significant amount of horological and military history. Note; they also ship directly to you so there's no dealer involved ultimately lowering the price and putting the needs of customers first.

While watching this, I’m wearing another deck watch style piece - the Hamilton Navy pioneer small seconds. My first Swiss watch and a real winner. The case design has a lot going on, but the eta-based movement runs at about +10/day. Either way, i love it and came to appreciate the style more after reading Longitude. I’d recommend both to anyone interested in this.

Every year I put a stowa marine in the shopping cart but bail when I see the delivery fee to Asia. Love them tho

oh yeah, for Canada we have customs fee usually a big gut punch when you get it.

I just got this watch in the other day. I got mine with the top grade hand wound Sellita and I chose brushed finishing instead of polished and it is amazing!

I was between this watch and the Longines Silver Arrow. Finally the Silver Arrow won me but I really like this watch too!

So I have the Manual Wind one with a date. The feeling of the crown and winding is sensational thus I am surprised at your crown comments. Considering I only paid about $660 USD for mine, I think it is tremendous value. It has that "German Feel" that I just cant explain haha Also, the strap is Genuine Lamb Leather thus feeling super soft and supple. It holds up really well!

Manual wind would have excellent crown feel as it has a proper no date movement option and has a more robust winding mechanism. The automatic version which is a modified date movement by stowa to be a no-date.

At 3:46 you can clearly see missing paint on the minute dial. If you pause the video when the second hand is over the missing paint, it obscures it, so obviously this is not just dust on the glass. Quality control issue?

All companies suffer from the odd qc issue. I've owned a couple of Stowas,a solid company.

Very nice watch nothing bad to say but I rather pay extra few hundred dollars and get Nomos. Not saying nomos is a better watch it's just a personal preference.

I know the factory in china that makes the cases for NOMOS. Great factory and people.

To me nomos kills their watches with their ridiculous lug two lugs. No 36 mm watch should have a 47 mm lug to lug.

Always love your videos, but there are a couple of weird VO edits in this one.

stowa is nice

Really like the clean dial and design. Biggest negative for me is the "Marine" naming with only 50m water resistance. Clearly not meant for diving but still.

Well the Marine chronometers of the past weren't meant for diving just for navigation but I see your point

I like the dial. Hate the ghost date. I need a date, because I always have to look it up. 36m is too small for me. 50 m water resistant is not good enough in a modern watch.

This is clearly not an original strap. Original strap is of high quality and has Stowa name and logo embossed. Someone replaced the original strap with a cheap chinese one, but kept the original hardware.
